So this is interesting a la Hayden Christensen and one of the writers.

If they go for a comics-esque Young Vader (terrifying, unhinged, murder for breakfast), I will just have a continuous orgasm for the full duration of the show.

 

Are those Darth Vader comics from like 2016/2017 still canon? Where it’s right after he becomes Vader and just goes around hunting and brutally murdering Jedi? Cuz there’s a lot of good to take from there.

All the Charles Soule Vader comics are canon. And they are phenomenal. The current run by Pak is also canon, which I also enjoy because of all the neat lore, but it's a very different Vader. Soule Vader is best Vader.

Edit: I just went back and reread the whole run for shits and giggles over the last couple hours. The Inquisitors get tons of development, so many Jedi get their moment in the sun, and Vader's BAMFery just oozes off the page. God-tier comic book.

Perhaps they go for some camera shots liken Tony Stark as Ironman? Like we kind of see Tony’s face as it’s in the helmet with the visual interfaces etc. We have had kinda similar shots in the Madalorian, but that’s the character view out, this could be a look in.

 

Hmm. Certainly a possibility. I'm personally hoping for lots of meditation chamber Vader. That always feels extra menacing.

 

Having watched the trailer again, it got me thinking about how cool an Inquisitor-focused tv series could be. Especially if they expanded their role a bit to something like what they had in Legends. The Legends Inquisitors didn't just hunt down Jedi, they rooted out traitors within the Empire, and they hunted down any Force User who didn't bow to the Emperor's will. There were all kinds of non-Jedi Light Side sects that they wiped out, and even a number of Dark Side ones they went after for refusing to swear fealty to the Sith. An Inquisitor as a villain-protagonist (or maybe an anti-villain so they can be at least marginally sympathetic to the audience) scouring the galaxy for these renegade Force Users - and for Rebel Agents hiding within the Empire's own ranks - could make for an awesome show if done right.

 

I personally never understood the appeal of watching asshole mooks do asshole mook things.

 

Depends on whether or not the characters actually are asshole mooks. If they're punch-clock villains or anti-villains, then the tension between their conscience and the job they do can make for some interesting internal conflict. That kind of character arc usually leads to a heel-face-turn at some point, though occasionally you'll see one where something happens in the end that resolves the internal conflict by convincing them that working for the bad guys is the lesser evil. If done reasonably well, it can be interesting either way.

Looks good, but fundamentally, we can't have an epic Obi-Wan/Vader confrontation, surely? After all, in A New Hope, Anakin says that the last time they met, "he [was] the learner]" and Obi-Wan the master (i.e. the duel on Mustafa).

 

Have Kenobi say "you still have a lot to learn, Anakin". Problem solved.

 

If they actually meet each other, I'll be very disappointed for this reason.

2 & 4) Canonically, these are because the Force is essentially the 'energy of life', that Jedi can tap into to do stuff. It's heavily rooted in asian mysticism, especially Taoist and Buddhist thought (as seen through the lens of some guy from California). The central thesis is that every living thing in the universe is connected to each other through the Force, that all becomes one in a vast cosmic web of life. Jedi are simply the rare few people able to sense and alter this web directly. The mind trick is using that interconnectedness to nudge someone's perceptions/thoughts in the direction you want, Force ghosts are the souls of dead Jedi who have 'ascended', for lack of a better term, and have joined their consciousness with that web of energy, etc, etc. It's fundamentally all about the connections between things and how, at the end of the day, everything is simply a tiny cog in the grand machine we call the universe.

3) Force Lightning is a different beast. Specifically, it's one of the powers granted by the Dark Side, which is, canonically, a corrupted and twisted expression of the Force. It's a perversion of the natural order and an inherently corruptive and addictive thing. People figured out how to harness this, and the easy, not to mention addictive, path to power led them deep into its rabbit hole and harnessing its power. The end result is stuff like Force Lightning, which in canon is essentially the Cruciatus with fancy visual effects; it's the rawest essence of pain inflicted on its victims. It just looks like lightning, presumably because Lucas thought that was cool and was working under some limitations with 1985 special effect tech.
