Perhaps. I think Sidious would still have that as a report.

But guarantee imperial academy has blood tests for high midichlorian counts. Would’ve at least gotten pulled into the inquisitors.

Adding that to the name, even if it was common, would be enough for Palpatine to be at least very suspicious and then check DNA to confirm it. Then he would probably laugh at the audacity of allowing Luke to keep his father's surname.

pretty sure this happened in canon after Luke destroyed the death star.

I liked about 80 percent of the two episodes. What I didn't like was probably nitpicky, but somehow still enough to pull me out sometimes.

The thing that more and more stands out to me is how 'realistic' or 'lived in' the original trilogy, the prequels, and the clone wars-series were depicted.

Now everything felt so sterile, at a glance you could tell that it was a movie set. Everything was just so Disney-fied

Tatooine, every single background character looked well-fed, with healthy skin and hair, their clothes simple but immaculate.
They all looked like actors pulled from a theme park depicting the Disney version of a shitty hellhole, that's actually supposed to be filled with crime, slavery, and murderous heat.

The 'scum' hunting Leia looked too clean and the chase was too 'cute'. Their ship's interior was empty and spotlessly clean, except for a convenient single chair you would find at IKEA and some rope. Put some thought and effort into your set pieces.

    The Inquisitors are inconsistent.

The Grand Inquisitor made a good show in that bar and even looked reasonably cool when he held the third sister's lightsaber with barely any visible effort. Then he's suddenly reduced to a clueless dude constantly playing catch-up with his insubordinate underling only to be killed off like an idiot.

Generally, the Inquisitors just don't feel threatening at all. I read some time ago, that they are only taught so much to be useful but to never be a threat or get any ideas, but that's probably not the case in this show. They are just shit.

The third sister. Oh boy, a character for edgy twelve-year-old girls.
It's like UEFA thinking Camila Cabello is something football fans want to see on the pitch before a Champions League final.
Or Disney attempting to create a menacing, dangerous, and relentless antagonist. They should thank their lucky star, that they have Vader in their repertoire, who has all that already in-built no thanks to them.

Furthermore, let's ignore the 'cool' parkour scene, but why didn't she use the mind-reading ability, that she used in the alley with that Eternals actor, not all the way back at the beginning on Tatooine? Why is she trying to step around that annoying idiot, why is she gently using the force so that the guy can still make some 'funny' quip?

The show could be truly great if people behind the scenes wouldn't half-ass some stuff.

If I had to guess, the con-man was more "weak minded" than the salt-of-the-earth farmer Owen Lars. That, and she actually knew that the con-man knew something she needed. I got the feeling that Lars was feeling especially afraid due to actually knowing about Obi-Wan, which a Sith would pick up on, which drew her attention to use him as an example. If he had reacted with more fear when she accused him of hiding a Jedi on his farm, she might have done more, but any fear he felt would have been about his family, which would be normal. Or she can only pull up recent memories with that particular mind trick.

Or more realistically, it was something that was only added in the script as a way for her to track down Obi-Wan without her having to actually torture the information out of the popular(?) actor. You know, like a real Sith would do.

(That is something that is a minor gripe for me: that the Inquisitors are rather...restrained from what you would expect from a Sith disciple. The bit where she cut the hand off of the old woman for speaking out against them was much more in tone of what I expected.)

This is something that I thought was particularly jarring. The Inquisitors, all of them, felt incredibly inconsistent over the course of just two episodes.

Yep. It seems like the inconsistencies are solely tied to Third Sister. Like the plot bends around so that she can be made more special... oh god. She's not the next Rey or Kwan, is she?

People are over thinking it, though I don’t blame y’all with how we’ve been burned in the past.

Third sisters gonna get the generic evil person treatment who’s bad bc of some tragedy in their past. Either gonna get naruto talk no jutsued into being a good person and dying in a self sacrificial way or just straight up evil dies. She won’t be around after this series.

    That's the problem for me.

If she was straight up proper evil I would be happy. Her cutting off the hands of that lady, who gave her lip was great and I would be content if she continued in that same vein.

But then the 'generic' stuff crept in.

She was probably the black youngling girl from the temple, the black woman is of course somehow lesser than her inquisitor peers, her boss is holding her back, and like you said she will probably do a heroic sacrifice, that will save Luke, Leia, and the entire galaxy.

Leaks from awhile back were saying Vader is going to brutally kill her right as she hesitates to murder Obi-Wan. I'm not putting much stock in that, but about 50% of the verified leaks so far have been on the money.

Yep, that's always been my assumption. The Empire in Star Wars is supposed to have a population somewhere around 100 Quadrillion sapient beings, a good chunk of them human. To put it succinctly, humans are simply not imaginative enough to have come up with enough surnames to make "Skywalker" a rare one. There's probably literally tens of millions of them in Luke's age-range alone.

It would also explain why Obi-wan never felt the need to change his surname for his alias. If there's already a few billion Kenobis out there in the galaxy, then why bother?

You would think so, and it would make sense for them to do it that way, but the only times in either continuity that we've ever been shown an Imperial serviceman being discovered as a Force Sensitive, it has universally been because they come physically close enough to the Emperor, Vader, or an Inquisitor for them to sense the person's connection to the Force.

In older Legends lore from the mid-90s, the Empire had developed a sort of Aura-reading device that could tell at a glance - with reasonable accuracy - if someone was Force Sensitive or not. But that tidbit was only ever used or mentioned a grand total of twice in all of Legends. Once in Kevin J. Anderson's Jedi Academy Trilogy, and again in one of Anderson's "Young Jedi Knights" novels. So odds are it was either a one-off prototype, or we can consider it "soft-retconned" out of existence by being utterly ignored for a full 20 years by every other piece of Star Wars media before Legends was officially ended.

So as it stands, odds are that if Luke had run off to join the Academy, he would have been fine. Of course, the longer he stayed in the Empire's service, the more likely it would become that some sort of Force-fuckery would bring him into direct contact with the Inquisition or Daddy Dearest. But simply joining up to get some vocational training as a pilot was probably safe enough.

You’re arguing from ignorance here. Just bc the only time we see it happen it’s related to Vader/Sidious, doesn’t mean it’s only time.

Luke has a massive midichlorian count. That definitively would’ve shown up in blood work done by the empire. Maybe I’m putting too much stock in Sidious’s intelligence but I’m pretty sure he’d have had such policies in place just so he can be aware.

imagine the inquisitors would bc it’s a quick way to find new potential inquisitors.

Luke would’ve been pretty much screwed a month or two into joining.

That wasn't really my point. My point was that since we only ever see them being found out in-person, long after they've joined up, the obvious logical explanation for that is that testing for midichlorians is rare enough in the military that multiple people slipped through the gaps for years. It doesn't rule out testing entirely, but it is obviously much less common than you are assuming. Why that would be, we can only speculate.

Maybe the test process and/or equipment and/or software that Qui-gon used was a proprietary Jedi one that no one outside the Order had, and some enterprising Jedi (like Obi-wan or Yoda) deleted the record during the Purge so the Sith wouldn't get their hands on it. If that is the case, then it could be that the Empire simply hadn't managed to reverse-engineer it by the time of the OT.

Or, alternatively, maybe the testing is too expensive to implement on the scale of the whole Imperial military machine, so it's only patchily done depending on the region you come from. For example, every recruit from Coruscant or Kuat would be tested as a matter of course, but someone like Luke? A farmboy from some backwater in the thick of the Arkanis Sector? It might just not be in the budget out there.

A third possibility is that by the time the OT comes around, Palpatine may not care all that much about latent Force Sensitives. The number of surviving Jedi was probably down to single digits by then, and enough Sensitives were being picked up the old fashioned way to more than meet the Empire's demand for new Force-wielding agents. Also bear in mind that Palpatine placed a lot of stock in his own foresight. if he foresaw that the testing was either unnecessary, or that it would lead to the training of a Dark Sider who might successfully overthrow him one day, then he might just cancel it then and there.

That's just what I came up with in the last 10 minutes or so. Obviously none of that is confirmed in the slightest, but my point is that there are a whole lot of possibilities between "Everyone is tested, always!" and "Nevermind, the Emperor is too dumb to remember midichlorians exist."

Vader was okay until the end imo. No reason he couldn’t pull that loader droid through the flames.

Or even step through the flames using the force?

Also, the way he fought Ben, felt so...tame.

There was no animosity, its like they were doing a light spar, with each of them not wanting to hurt each other.

Its very odd, seeing a lightsaber fight in 2022 look so lacklustre.

I was expecting more anger. More dark side of the force things. This is the first time he's seen him since they last fought.

But Vader felt..I don't know, tame. For lack of a better word.

Yeah, this was incredibly underwhelming for me, this is their first encounter after 10 years.

I would expect Vader to be full of rage barely able to restrain his emotions for the person he feels is responsible for his suffering and pain. Yet he acts as if this is just some random encounter and he puts almost no effort into pursuing or fighting him. Obi-wan escapes and just runs 20 meters and just stops and walks like 2-3 times acting as if there is not a maniac behind him wanting him dead, this is just baffling.

Vader gets ambushed by one person and he has a whole team behind him and does nothing. How are the flames stopping him just 1 minute ago he was dousing the flames with the force but he does not do that again? He could have jumped over it with the force or like a hundred different ways to overcome it, yet he just stops and they are constantly telling us how desperately he searches for Obi-Wan.

Also, how could Obi-Wan escape with that Droid he was slow as fuck even that chick was finding them and giving him medical aid but they can't catch them even though they have hundreds on the planet and saw where they fled.

This was super lazy writing for one of the most pivotal scenes in the whole series. I did enjoy the first two episodes but that was a total bummer I get that they want to have a rematch between both at the end of the series but their first encounter completely lacked in emotion, and suspense and there was almost no dialog in such an important scene they should have just held their load for the final episodes for their encounter.

I genuinely laughed out loud when Obi Wan was "running" away from vader in that scene.

    So weird and absurd.

I loved everything save for that final scene with the fire. That was... a blunder. I thought the lightsaber fight itself was quite good. I don't really get what y'all mean about lack of rage. Seemed pretty rageful snapping that kid's neck like a twig and blunt hammering at Obi-Wan with his saber no finesse at all.
