John Wick 4 - sillier, with even more preposterous world building and settings (can anyone connected to the High Table just have a normal meeting?), longer, stretching to well over 3 hours including trailers, but just buckets of fun throughout, and definitely has the most memorable shootout of the franchise.
An extensive oner, shot from overhead as John fights his way through an army of assassin's armed only with a rifle loaded with incendiary rounds. Peak cinema!

Saw the latest Guy Ritchie - Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre - recently, and it was a huge letdown. It's absolutely missing my favourite parts of GR movies - sharp dialogue and very sharp editing. Additionally, it has a weird pacing reminiscent of bad fanfics, where the focus (at least in first 15-20 minutes, which is how long I lasted) is on stuff, but any resolution / power up happens off screen.

I was meant to go to 4 yesterday, despite not having seen 1, 2 or 3. We ended up watching Cocaine Bear instead which was pretty bad, but also pretty funny. If the premise alone doesn't make you cringe, and you can deal with violence on the level of a person being eaten alive on screen very graphically, then I'd recommend it. If not, stay far away.

I do want to see Cocaine Bear, but it seems like the kind of film best watched with friends and booze than at the cinema.

Can confirm above. The only really negative thing is it felt bloated. Felt pretty clear to me that the ending was the planned ending to John Wick 5, but they crammed 4 and 5 into one movie.

I really hope Donnie Yen gets the Caine spinoff he apparently wants.

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor among thieves was delightful. I give it a 7.5/10 for the average movie goer.

A 9/10 if you love DnD.

Every scene with the DM PC was fucking magical. I went to see it with the buddy who DMs for my group, and we about lost our shit. The actor knew exactly what he was doing with every facial expression, and you can't tell me the writer's weren't working from experience.

There are so many great nods to players.

for example start of the film

where Edgin gives his backstory. For a moment I was getting annoyed that it was taking so long…then I realized Edgin is literally the player with the 20 page backstory

...I'm not sure I get the tone of this post. The first one was awesome.

I remember it being "mediocre but good". It seems I need to rewatch it.

Its got huge Lego Movie vibes with the kids playing with barbies instead of Legos in this case. I am pretty sure people have only seen the first ten or so minutes through the two trailers before the real world comes into play. Though I have heard this goes hard into gender politics with men getting shat on for a good portion of the movie. This is coming from people who saw the test screenings.

I mean, that's the whole shtick though? President Barbie, Lawyer Barbie, Astronaut Barbie etc.

Ken is always just Ken. A Barbie accessory.

Saw the Mario movie with my 9 yr old nephew and had fun. I’ve never seen a kids movie on opening weekend, probably not even when I was a kid. It was wild lol. Kids just losing their mind over it, one kid went nuts because he saw King Boo and couldnt believe it.

Kids can be annoying in movies, but seeing a horde of them just really love Mario was pretty fun tbh. Plus I smoked a little bit before hand which im sure helped my enjoyment of it lol.

If you have kids/nephews/neices/best friends’ kids that you’d go with, its worth it. The movie makes no sense, and every plot hole it just speeds past with minimal attention to it- but its a mario movie, so I wasnt expecting too much from it to begin with. The animation is also pretty amazing, and Chris Pratt as Mario was fine imo.

I feel “bloated” is a bit harsh, but I did wonder by the second act if the director had run out of ideas for both the violence and the plot.

I think the final hour or so was everything I wanted out of a John Wick sequel and more than made up for any earlier disappointment.

I don’t know if it was the best selection with the other options being D&D and Mario, but I wasn’t disappointed at all.

Apparently the Mario movie is getting a new script in Japanese, and some US theaters are showing it (with subtitles). I thought it was a curious tidbit and there was one nearby, so I snagged a seat.

I am very curious whether they still go with Bowser's musical number and what that would turn into.
