I joined the utterly amazing world of fanfiction a little late, I imagine that the golden period was around 2005 to 2010, where legends wrote the most beautiful masterpieces. Alas as I keep discovering the gems I find that best are already lost, deleted or only in the memories of true lovers. as generation keeps changing, those who truly loved the mazing universe of HP, have grown up, married with kids and jobs and no longer read, write.

I have fallen in love with some writers but I have no idea what happened to them? where they are now? why they left?

I would love to know just anything, even tit-bit of information of my heros. And I hear this is the best place to ask for or about them?

Chilord passed away from cancer several years ago.

There is an old saying "the golden age of science fiction is 12". That is, the best SF was whatever you read when you were 12 years old. I didn't get into HP fic til fairly recently, and most of what I've read is post-2010. Some of it was decent but idk if I'd call any of it legendary. I don't know either if HP fanfic is now fading. This site is near dead though. Spacebattles is lively but is mostly media fandoms that I've never heard of.

 

There isn't really anything discuss which hasn't been discussed or any great fanfic which hasn't already been written. The peak of Hp fandom was from late 90s to 2010. Books movies fanfics everything at its peak. We had 100s of sites dedicated back then with an extremely active large fandom.

 

Chilord has unfortunately passed away a few years ago. There's a few other threads about writers in the forum that have more updates.

 

HP is the first fic fandom I've seen built around massive fics posted serially over long periods. Back in my day, people would write fics and post them complete. There were relatively few WIP's and also fics tended to be a lot shorter. I generally haven't found longfics to be a good thing. The long HP fics that I've plodded through all needed a ton of editing and cutting. The best ones I can think of, legendary if you will, are all of novella length.

I confess I've only heard of about 5 of the authors on the lists above, and read only a few of the 5. I guess I should look at some more of them. But, I'd rather stay with fics that aren't excessively long. Otherwise reading them creates what feels like a poor return on the invested time. I couldn't bring myself to start reading something like Prince of Slytherin because its length puts me off before I find out anything else about it.

There are some authors who I miss because I found their stories to be personable even though not what I would call legendary.

Nonjon - the most hilarious writer in the fandom. The black comedy is still the most hilarious fic of all time. All of his fics were like Adam Sandler movies
