The CGI Appa and Momo need some work but other than that looks legit. The kid they got for Aang is near perfect casting.

The most important thing is going to be the bending fights though, and you can't really glimpse that from the trailer. If they halfass the action in typical netflix fashion, the internet will never forgive them.

 

There's so much that can go wrong here and not just the special effects or the action. Cautiously optimistic for now.

 

OK, that looks a lot more promising than I would have expected. Still a lot I'd want to see before committing to watching, but still.

 

I'm hype as fuck. Every cast member so far looks fantastic.

Aang flying towards Crescent Isle was a lil awkward, but time and editing can fix that. Omashu was absolutely breath-taking, as was the air temple that was shown. Azula, with the fire flickering in her eyes was great. Katara was perfect. Suki was perfect. Iroh was perfect. Zuko is perfect, even if the bald plus topknot hairstyle really doesn't work in real time (imagine 3rd season Zuko with his short hair with the actor... magnificent.) Fire Lord Ozai and the Fire Throne with the wall of flame was perfect. I don't even think they could create a better Aang from the ground up with gene editing! He even has the big ass ears!

I don't even think that Appa or Momo even need much work!

KHaaaaaaaaaN is right, though. If they don't live up to the martial arts and fights, they will fail.

My nitpick is that I don't want the Avatar state to be blue-ish white and gradual. I want it to be brilliant, blinding white. And I want it to be instantaneous.

Kinda think that the Avatar cycle being spoken and then the genocide of the Air Nomads will cold open this bitch. Though I would double, or even triple, the size of the fireballs shown in this trailer so that we have a compare/contrast to firebenders regularly vs firebenders being enhanced by Sozin's Comet.

I'm hoping that this is good even more than I hoped the A Song of Ice and Fire adaptation was good

 

I just hope they dont rush through the story. The downtime/filler of the journey was some of the bests aspects of the show.

Omashu easily best part of the trailer, that was gorgeous. Appa and Momo felt a little Detective Pikachu, but that's a fairly okay bar and for this I'm perfectly willing to accept a little narm.

 

It does look good, though every time I see a liveaction adaption of something animated it makes me feel like an old man- like I wish they were coming out with more animated stories with Aang and the Gaang instead of the same story in live action that no matter how good it is won’t live up to the OG.

 

The great thing is, they are doing this too. Avatar Studios at Nick is in full swing now. Some of the projects already have art stills out.

1) New Earth Avatar series set in modern day equivalent of the Avatar world. Originally scheduled for 2025. Follow up movie as well in 2027.

2) Kyoshi movie. Sometime in 2025-2027

3) Three aged-up aang gang (in their 20s/30s) movies starting in 2025.


4) Zuko movie, no details.

5) two spinoff series, no details

 

Oof 28 year old Zuko has me fanning myself a bit.

I hope we see some sick new animation styles for dual wielding firebending combat

And one of the upcoming spinoffs hopefully has a side plot of Sokka trying to find Space Sword in the Wulong Forest

You just know that there will be some really cool earthbending scenes, just to capitalize on the hilarious pebble-bending meme from the movie.

It'll be worth it for that if nothing else. Trailer do look good tho.

Looks cheesy but in a good way.

 

The bending looks awesome. The hits have impact and it actually looks like the elements are being manipulated by the movements of the martial arts. Was one of my biggest concerns going in, and I'm no longer worried at all.

Sokka actor got dumped on by the interwebz for not looking like Sokka / being too lightskinned, and he's the one that ends up being a copy paste of the character's personality. Kek.

 

Oh hell yeah. King Bumi's earthbending had some goddamn heft in it.

 

First line he spoke and I had to check if they didn't just use an outtake from the cartoon.

I repeat my previous statement in this thread, but would like to add cautious optimism.

 

Soooo, some interviews are going around about characterization... and apparently they're getting rid of Sokka's sexism and Katara's mothering to sidestep "problematic gender issues."

I don't even know what to say to that. Like... overcoming those traits are key character building moments in later seasons.

There has also been word that they're cutting most of the side mission episodes entirely. Not necessarily a deal breaker but they're foregoing huge opportunities for comedy.

I dunno dawgz. We might be in trouble.
