My main concern is that snape is supposed to be a pallid loser in the dungeon. How can you make a black man in the 90s, the height of black man coolness, a loser?

 

You'd have to go really greasy looking. Big dark circles under sunken eyes. Oily face. Fucked up teeth. Really pale up the face so it looks like he's got a permanent flu or is missing a ton of blood. I think if they focused on the big hook nose and did their best to ugly him up it could be very effective.

As long as he doesn't look like Edris Elba with a head cold.

 

Honestly, it's a silly idea. You can't predicate a reboot on being "closer to the story" if you then shy away from canon that hard.

If they do, it'll end up being like the Wheel of Time show--maybe fine on its own, but a poor reflection of the source material--and we'll all hate-watch it for a couple seasons until it loses its appeal.

I have no issue with race swapping, but Snape is the worst character to do it with imo.

It will undoubtedly lead to James and Co. being racists. I don't need my boy James to be treated as dirty as the movies again.

 

I think that’s the most persuasive argument against- you don’t want to inadvertently spawn “Are Harry Potter’s parents racist?” think pieces that JK Rowling will feel compelled to respond to.

 

Let’s compromise. Snape stays ugly white, but Lupin has to be gay and Tonks is trans becoming a man when they marry! Teddy would obviously be the product of mpreg.

 

No one wants a black fucking Snape. No one. No real Harry Potter fan wants a black Snape or a black Harry Potter or a black fucking Hermione Granger. Leave the characters alone and quit race swapping shit for fucks sake.

I forgot that this fandom is absolutely infested with slash fic/trans-whatever/my pronoun is X/etc so yeah I can’t really say that a real Harry Potter fan wouldn’t want a race swap. The average Harry Potter fan fiction writer/reader is probably in my estimation a white middle aged female that votes left/socially progressive so race swapping would probably tickle the pickle.

 

It's not that anyone here or in in the fandom at large desperately wants to see HP characters raceswapped, it's that normal people aren't hugely bothered by the thought of it. Like... who fucking cares? The normal person's reaction to raceswapping is to maybe do a light eyeroll at Hollywood's obsession with representation, and then move on with your life.

The idea being so hugely triggering for you is a firm indicator that you need to take a minute and self-evaluate. Or, better yet, go back to not posting / sucking Trump's microdick in Politics.

But yeah, I've long grown out of caring about movie/tv shoes/games before they come out. When it comes out I'll check it out regardless of casting, if it's shit it's shit if not than that is a bonus.

 

Look, this is probably going to suck, but let’s be honest, making a great show isn’t the goal anymore. It’s all about squeezing every last bit of profit from the franchise while there’s still some nostalgia to exploit. Who cares if it crashes and burns? The executives and big names will cash in their checks. The actors will be sitting pretty, the marketing team will be giddy over those merch sales, and the studio will be off greenlighting the next shiny cash grab. And so it goes on till something breaks.

Most people don’t care about race-swapping because they don’t care about anything of real value anymore. Shows are made for the mass man, who’ll just eat up whatever SLOP gets shoved in front of them. Quality media is becoming rarer by the day, drowned out by the endless stream of bland, formulaic content that’s only there to keep the masses entertained for a moment. It's all about churning out SLOP for the lowest common denominator, with no real focus on creating anything that actually stands the test of time.
