Holy shitkicking fuckballs. Looks like a frame grab from Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer.

The video in that shit was spectacular. In a horrifying way, sure, but spectacular. Then there's Beirut.

fun fact, that was 1.1 kilotons (thousand ton, 1,000s of 2,000 pounds) of TNT. Hiroshima was about 15 times that. Tsar Bomba was 51,000 times as many kilotons.

Fun pics, with context, with what our species can do on purpose.

If you haven't, go through the moment of explosion frame by frame (I love that YT has that function). You can see the building begin to disintegrate as it gets swallowed by the cloud of smoke.

Beruit is probably the best view we have on the ground for something like that.

But as long as we're comparing explosions, this also holds a special place for me: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/i555FVXtpyg

The Tonga volcano from a few years back was the largest explosion ever recorded by modern instrumentation.

Isn't that a compression wave? EDIT: Oh, I see what you mean, later on. Wicked.

I like how you can see the gap in the wave where the building blocked it.
