I got an email from the FFA Templatemaker which told me that the DLP-Template was based on it, but the copyrights weren't in there.
So theres a new "version" online.

I've made a significant set of updates to the ff-Net-izer program - to the point where it's not really just for "ff.net" anymore. I emailed the original creator and he was more than happy to accept the changes I made. The changes I made include Bornagainpenguin's requests, plus a few other little things and bug fixes.

    Features:
    * Add right-click mouse menu to include Cut,Copy,Paste
    * Add ability to download stories from ficwad.com, lotrfanfiction.com, and Twisting the Hellmouth (tthfanfic.com)
    * Put template and download directory textboxes on front window.

    Download them here:
    Source files: http://www.lordjeram.net/deffnet-2454188-64-source.zip
    Windows executable: http://www.lordjeram.net/deffnet-2454188-64-win.zip

I was thinking about adding a feature that allowed a full author download, but that make take a bit of doing.

If anyone has any other possible things to add, let me know.

Very cool, Jeram. I like the changes. I'll post when I have new ideas.

I'm thankful for the work you've put into this, but you really need to add a copy of the GPL and the COPYING extensionless text file to your archive if you're planning to post it "live" like this on the forum. I'd hate to see one of the GPL-Zealots give you a spanking over simply forgetting to add those Very Important Files! Other than that (and the bugs I've already mentioned in our PMs) this looks good to go! Thanks again for the work you've put into this thing for us!

    Ner0! I was hoping you'd wander by!

I was wondering if you could look at the DLP.net Template again and see if you can fix an issue I've noticed with excessively long line breaks, like the fic here. If I use the FFA template it manages to break the page gracefully and doesn't mess up the page, whereas in the DLP.net template the who thing starts to break. Like in these pictures below...

    See what I mean?

I'll look into it. But I don't know if I can fix it.

Sorry for this bump, but the program is no longer working as well due to changes in the structure of FF.nutz. /me is bumping to notify Jeram or other interested (and capable) parties who have the necessary skills to fix it. Also, AVG 7.5 has begun flagging the Jeram de-FFNet-izer as a 'trojan' of some kind. I've already since switched to Avast, but thought relevent parties would like to know this as well...

As for the errors in question? The headers are completely fouled up and no longer respect the template choices...you'd have to do an actual download and view to understand exactly what I mean though.

--bornagainpenguin (missing his favorite archiving tool)

PS: Twisting the Hellmouth is giving it fits too as for some reason the app just downloads the first chapter in the story instead of the entire story..

PPS: Full disclosure, I'm also bumping to remind people the program exists, else I'd just do a PM to Jeram, but I figure there must be people new to the forums who'd love to know about the de-FFNet-izer and missed the thread the first time around...

About that, I made a while ago a software in Visual Basic (basically only for Windows and doesn't work with Vista) to 'slurp' fanfictions from FF.net. It's not as good, well, it just copy the story to the hard drive with a simple index file. I didn't bother with templates or whatever as I use a Firefox plugin to change fonts for every fanfiction website ;)

If you are interested I could always try to find the sources or executable on my hard drive and upload them, and if you know a little about VB I guess you could update it easily; be warned it's some sloppy non-indented awfully amateur-like made code.

Thanks for the speedy reply! I just copied over the updated files to my DEFFNET\PROGRAM directory and did a few downloads...

The directory information is now fixed, (thank you!) but the DLP template still used the wrong\screwed up header information, as can be seen below.

    ....

Err...disregard, I suck cocks. I just deleted the older directory and redid the download and it worked fine. So as a note, everyone should delete any bad downloads they did using the older version of the program before trying to update their copies of previously grabbed fics.

The Twisting the Hellmouth bug still remains (app downloads only the first chapter of the story but saves it as chapter two, thirty, ect) but at least the FF.nutz functionality works again!

Thanks again for the effort you've been putting into updating this program for us Jeram!

Hey guys, I was going to make a whole new thread about this but considering this is about De-FFNet-izer, I'll post here.

Ever since they added those pop-up-able adds on FF.Net, my De-FFNet-izer has errors downloading chapter 4 of any story. Are you guys aware of any bugs or perhaps the Ads now interfer with the downloading of Fanfics?

    Thanks,

    Mog

EDIT - I have tried both Jeram's updates since the last official one came out and looked around for anyone else posting a similiar problem.

EDIT - Wow haha, I managed to fix it. Don't know how o_o, but I did. Thanks anyway haha!

EDIT - Wow alot of Edits! Anyway, well done on the template, I think they are a vast improvement over the normal templates. Keep up the good work! ^_^

For now, all of the most current updates should be available on the deffnet group:
    http://groups.google.com/group/deffnet

This includes the latest fix which covers the Twisting the Hellmouth bug.

Any chance of an alternate link? I've been unable to grab this despite numerous attempts at downloads, with and without a download manager.

Never mind I went out and bought some internet time and managed to get the files... Here's a zShare.net upload for anyone else who might be having Google Group issues...

    de-ffnet-izer_2454270-64_win32.rar - 3.47MB

Thanks again for the update and for making TTHM work again with the de-FFNet-izer!

/BUMPING this old thread to request an update to the de-FFNet-izer codebase. The original guy who coded it disappeared and the Google Groups have become inactive. The only remaining source for the de-FFNet-izer is a website tossed together by a guy who doesn't seem to be putting any effort in whatsoever in keeping the thing running.

Recently FF.Nutz did some updates and that resulted in a bit of gibberish showing up at the top of each chapter--I didn't really say anything at the time because that was minor in the scheme of things. Then some time since I uploaded the latest DLP.Net archives the idiots at FF.Nutz decided to futz around with the FF.net code some more resulting in the de-FFNet-izer losing chapter titles. Thankfully someone contacted the guy hjosting the comatose de-FFNet-izer code and her uploaded a fix to the program.

The fix works great, titles are back, the gibberish at the beginning of each chapter is gone. Great, right? WRONG! Jeram, the 'fix' stripped out the ability to download from other popular fanfiction sites! It also removed the ability to right click in fields for copy-n-paste! I'm glad that FF.Net is working again but I miss the other new features you added for us!

Jeram, could you please look at the de-FFNet-izer again and see about adding back the features that have been lost?

    --bornagainpenguin

PS: I apologize for the necro...if anyone feels bumping this topic is pushing too far I'll cheerrfully serve any temp ban imposed on me by the mods here. I just didn't see any point in starting a new thread when this one already exists and the post is a continuation of that one. Also--honestly, I'm trying to remind Jeram of the great work he did with the codebase for us. (Oh and Ner0 too...he collaborated to make the DLP.net template I use in the archives...)
