I would just like to say, STFU. If you start reading a good fic and it turns out to be slash, keep reading, skip the explicit portions if that sickens you. If you cannot stand reading about a gay relationship in an otherwise good fic, there is something wrong with you. FF.net will, most likely, never implement a slash filter, and if they did, good fics would undoubtably be ignored because of a minimal level of slash, easily withstood, even by you DLP.net slash nazis.

If your argument is grounded on the fact that slash is completely out of character, then petition for an OOC check box instead.

If you don't like slash fics because of the bad quality they usually carry, then stop deluding yourself. We all know that there are fics that make us cringe of every genre and type, My Immortal for example. If you crave a filter for good and bad fiction, check out the library.

I dont have a problem with fics that have slash in the background or small mentions of it IF they are good.

Slash in as a main pairing aint my cup of team and Im sure there are plenty others who agree.

So you have pairing problems, thats okay. I understand. I have an irrational hatred of all H/G.

The problem is, that you can't really skip the slash scenes in (many) fics, since they are completely worked into the story. Sure you can skip the smut scenes, but in many cases you won't understand the story properly anymore if you skip all these parts. And there are also plenty of references and simple gestures in the rest of the text which you simply can't skip since you will read it before you even properly realize it.

I think the only solution that would work (i.e. the only one that doesn't require the admins to do too much extra work) is to make it a rule to label the story if it contains slash. The problem is, though, that FF.Net does not enforce a lot of the rules- just look at the amount of badly written smut that's been on there for years. Another solution would be to reintroduce the NC-17 rating in some form, so that you can avoid any explicit material (what I prefer to do).

They are already supposed to put slash in the summary arent they?

I agree, but they won't because they would lose their ad money. Today, I decided to read a random slash fic just to see what they could get away with and got a nice shock. When did oral sex become R-rated? I'm not allowed to describe jism in imagery terms, but rimming is allowed? Please someone educate me. A link perhaps?

You could always have three categories like: No Slash. Minor/Background pairing Slash, and Main Pairing Slash. Won't happen though because apparently if you don't read slash your a homophobe and you are discriminating. I'm sure Deathinapinkboa that you would read a H/G fic with no problems and would just skip over the sex scenes because that is the only place in the fic that an author would put kissing and hugging and stuff... right?

I don't read slash but it is not because it is two guys going at it so much. It is the fact that I find nothing attractive with the male body- and I certainly can't see why either straight girls or gay guys find the smelly, disproportioned bodies of guys attractive either. I'm a teen and my hormones are raging and I want to see some sex in the story but I don't want it to be male bodies being described because I find them completely unnatractive and no fun to read about. I don't like reading about them in het stories just as much but at least in het stories there is a girl to describe. In slash stories that isn't the case and as romance is a big part of stories for me why would I want to read that? That is why I don't read slash. I don't know why I felt like telling you that but for some reason I felt like it was important to my point. (3 in the morning btw)

Now the reason that I want to be able to have a slash section and a het section is because there are so many slash stories nowadays that it is getting tiresome to sort through them to get to the het stories. Why did they give us a complete/ incomplete check? Because a lot of people only read completed stories and didn't want to sort through the incomplete to find a completed one. So why is it so different- and offensive- to ask for a slash check so the people that don't want to read slash- or the people that don't want to read het- don't have to sort through everything to find a fic to read. you could even make it Slash, Minor slash, Het, Minor het, General, and all pairing types.

Nope. The only way to tell if it's slash sometimes is to check the genre and main characters of the story. If it's a Romance fic and has two male characters, chances are that it's slash.

I would sign the petition. I don't mind slash, but when I'm reading a fic and think "Hey, this is pretty good!" then get a face full of literary-draco's-ass or something, I immediately click the red X button.

Im willing to bet that most of the fans of slash are in fact not a gay but infact ALOT of little 12-16 year old fangirls who dream about it every night

And I bet they think the same thing about femslash with 12-16 year old fanboys.

I'd against this, actually, as it would hide perfectly good fics I might otherwise read.

Some authors might categorize a story in which a secondary character (or just not Harry, in a Harry-Centric fic) as slash, thereby hiding a story I might read otherwise.

I just wish Authors would specify the kind of slash, such as Harry-Centric or no.

What admins? There was a time when ff.net had moderators, who were involved in such lulz-riffic affairs as the banning of Cassandra Claire, but now they're all gone, and it's just Xing Li running the place. That is why feedback response is so bad.

I really don't care about pairings. That said, I dislike it when fics have to much smut. If I want to get my rocks off I don't go to Harry Potter fanfiction, I go to attractive boys or porno sites.

The main problem for me is Romance fics, almost all of which are crap. I tend to filter all of those in my FFN searches.

If we're going to filter slash, we must also filter other things, like Mary-Sues, and Super Power Harry, and Fem!Blaise, and so on and so forth.

I find it funny that ya'll are making noises about filtering slash, but nobodies mentioned femslash.

Not really dude, as there aren't that many of those. A huge portion of Fanfiction . net is slash so there really needs to be a category either way for people who don't read it.

^ I assumed that femslash was included under slash. I agree, though. My problem is not the actual slash, but the mislabeled, disgustingly awful, smut. That is a problem that I have with any lemon fic. A slash filter would only make it easier to filter that out. The thing that I saw working effectively in other fanfiction sites are the warnings feature, and mandatory pairing announcements. That, and what I said before, are the only things that I see as workable solutions.

    Edited for punctuation errors.
