    Harry Rotter's internet hoax

    By THOMAS WHITAKER
    May 08, 2007

A HARRY Potter nut has written a FAKE 250,000-word version of the next book and put it on the internet.

The spoof of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows fooled fans.

But publishers Bloomsbury insist the online version is bogus.

A spokeswoman said: “We are aware of the internet version but it is not the real thing. People will have to wait until July 21.”

The fake has been posted on at least one Potter site.

A literary expert said: “There are tens of thousands of words. It claims to be the real McCoy.”

It has a happy ending, with Harry marrying his sweetheart Ginny Weasley.

But author JK Rowling has hinted that her hero will DIE in the seventh and final Harry book.

An unprecedented security operation is in place to make sure it is not leaked.

Only three people other than JK, all top publishing bosses, have read it.

Books will be delivered to shops in locked containers tied with steel chains.

More than three million are expected to be sold in 24 hours, beating Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which sold two million in a day in 2005.

Heh, does that mean all the spoilers from Bioplague's thread are just an edging-on-insanity fake?

Nah. I know what book they're talking about but that one is obviously a fake. You can get it through torrents.

The one I'm spoiling isn't even torrented yet. It's just scans of chapter titles and passages.

Never underestimate the stupidity of H/G fangirls. The repercussions are mighty, indeed.

It must have been well written if it fooled "a literary expert". There are long stories on fanfiction.net, but most are not well written. I wonder if the author posted this independently on fanfiction.net. If not, it's really sad that someone would waste that much of their lives to write a "good" imitation and have everyone forget about it the second DH comes out.

Can anyone find a link to this fake? I'd like to take a look.

On the topic of writing the huge fake novel, why do people write fanfiction at all? It's fun. Writing novels through NaNoWriMo has become a huge part of my life, and I imagine writing a whole Harry Potter book must be similarly thrilling. The author probably had a good time writing it.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind checking it out, also. This seems like it has to at least be well-written if so many people bought it as real.

I've got it and it was decent in a very canon way but totally not DLP material. He's kinda got JKR's style down but I only got about halfway through before I just quit.

Here's a link, I'll mirror a copy for DLP folks who don't want to bother with torrents.

Hum...The Sad thing is, there seems to be leaked of Pages, including an horrible, horrible epilogue. :/

I won't say anything about it without prompting, but let's just say it's worse than one could imagine...

Apparently, there is more than one idiot, because I've seen two different versions of DH online.

I would laugh if this was some publishing joke.

Rowling wrote the real version and then she wrote the crap one were all looking at.

It would be quite the prank... for some reason wiht all the lenghts she is going to, I can some what see her doing that.

Ah, yeah. That's Melindaleo's story. She is one of the H/G fanwomen. After OotP she also wrote the 'traditional' set of Y6 / Y7 novels. I remember that in these two her Voldemort didn't have a plan but was just attacking Harry over and over again. But they were decently written.

Yeah, I know about at least two which were alledged to be the real thing.

And somebody even wrote a fake HBP. Sadly Bloomsbury and Scholastic took it for real.

    I read it.

After the sobbing-outer planar Dumbledore/Harry reunion my eyes bled.

After Harry and Ginny made love on the beach at the end my eyes exploded.

Now I write with voice recognition software.

    Fucking Melindaleo.
