    ... The Pairing names.

Yes, this is one of those things that bugs me to no end and curiously seems to happen in a much lesser degree in Harry Potter fandom.

I'm talking about those shippers and writers who, instead of writing the ship names in an intelligible manner for us readers to understand clerly what are we going to find inside "the box", invent rather stupid names for them blending into one the given names of the subjects of said ship...

"Snarry"? (ugh), "Jott" (in X-Men fanfiction), "Aurikku" (In FFX)

Those are just a few examples of this retarded habit... Why do they do so? What's the use?

As disgusting and disturbing as it is, is that difficult to write, for example "Snape/Harry" (ugh) ?

I always assumed that the purpose for this was because on ff.net you get a very small amount of space to write your summary in. So, to get more space, authors write the pairing as Honks rather than Harry/Tonks or whatnot.

Though, that's more of a guess on my part. I do think that HP/HG or HP/NT is easier still, but...

People do it for the same reason they say Brangelina.

I've always wondered what Pumpkin Pie was. I never cared enough to click on a summary that said that since those summaries scare me, but I kind of want to know what that ship is and why it's called Pumpkin Pie.

Well some of them do have a nice ring to them.

    Honks

    Hellatrix

    Hily?

Well the first two are good, I can't think of any others at the moment.

And who names these things anyways?

The Pumpkin Pie means Harry and Hermione ship, I've just googled it at the risk of ending lobotomized.

    Don't aske me why though.

I created Honks on my own one time because I thought it was amusing. Then, in my twelve-year-old whinny stage, thought someone had taken my idea when they used it on their own story. I don't know if that was true or not and I feel awful that I might have helped in the creative design of the Honks, but at the time I thought myself suck a genius.

I'm not sure, but a simple Fanfiction.net search and context clues led me to believe that summaries involving the phrase 'Pumpkin Pie' also have Harry and Hermione pairings.

How this has anything to do with a pastry I am not sure.

I believe that one of the first Harry/Hermione stories had pumpkin pie in it. I would advise to visit Portkey.org - they should tell you everything you wish to know about it.

It irks me a bit, too. I understand it completely, though from my pov it seems to be something more common to the disgusting pairings (i.e. Snarry, Drarry, etc). Those were the first of the 'blended names' that I ever saw, and I still have distaste for the whole idea, despite my love of the Honks fandom. Really, I so love Tonks. I'd do anything for that shape-changing piece of ass.

My personal favorite one of these is Sneville.

I've never read such a fic, but the name makes me giggle.

I'd imagine that you love the idea of dark, domineering Snape taking willowy, pushover neville, hard, late in the night.

Then, the rest of us love how Neville would crawl out of the covers and, at day break, stab Snape multiple times in the back with an ice pick.

I dunnu where that came from....

Snape easily flipped him over and grabbed some lotion from his desk. He hurriedly squirted some onto his hand and smeared it over his hard erection that was already out of his pants, upright and stiff.
Neville clenched his teeth and eyes together and waited for what he knew was inevitable.

A squeal escaped from his scrunched face as Snape’s hard member hit home in the boy’s soft, unprotected anus. Snape grunted with perverse pleasure as he as he pulled himself in and out of his student. Panting heavily, he quickened his thrusts.

, but it was impossible to ignore the pain in his ass and the sound of his teacher’s heavy gasps above him.

Snape’s strong, spidery hands grabbed the boy’s hip bones and used that as leverage to drag Neville even further up over his dick before he stiffened. Neville knew what was about to happen next, even without the promptings of Snape’s stillness, or the breath caught in his chest, or even the nails digging into the skin of his hip.

Snape’s hot cum exploded inside his pupil. How fucked up does you life need to be, mused Neville painfully, before you can tell exactly when your teacher is about to ejaculate? Satisfied, Snape pushed out and off of a quivering Neville and pulled up his pants.

“Dismissed.” Was his last smug word before he left the room leaving Neville with blood and cum leaking out his ass.

Hahahah...Awesome find, Madeyemoody. Simply awesome; just by reading that, I feel that another weak section of my soul has been removed. You have made me stronger, good sir! Rep for you.

Madeye, you should post that in the wtf fics thread.

Truly Epic, it was the kind of story that smears away bits of your soul with every re-reading.

Hope you like the puke I sent your way.

Actually, as much as I dislike the idea of writing things like `Snarry` in place of `Snape/Harry`, or the somewhat slightly harder to understand `SS/HP`; I can see where `Snarry` would be increadibly useful in combating ff.net's completely useless search-engine. If I type in `Snape/Harry`, it will give me entries that happen to mention Snape and those that happen to mention Harry. It will ignore the slash (no pun intended, but unavoidable in this case) connecting the two words. On the other hand, it cannot ignore `Snarry`.

Ff.net needs to put into their filter section basically an option that matches every single character to every single other character. This will solve the pairing problems permanently and make fics easily filterable. Maybe with a little bit of google magic to match stories automatically and retroactively to each pairing.

Oh, and they need to seriously update their character list. It looks to be pre-HBP, seeing as it doesn't include Daphne Greengrass!
