I think there was one in canon, but I could just have read another fanfiction with a similar curse.

I'll edit after I look it up.

Edit: couldn't find it in the lexicon, I guess it must be used fairly often in fanon for me to have thought otherwise.

We need some spells that aren't just 'uber!pwnage!killthembitches!' spells. Three-fourths of the spells are something like 'removes the heart' or 'removes all bones' or 'cruciatus sextus maximus - the pain and pleasure curse'

Incantation - Nebulosus 'Nebulosus - foggy' 'also 'os' means countenance'

Wand Movement - Tapping the two pulse spots on the wrist and neck as you say Nebulos, followed by tapping between the eyes with the word Memoria.

    Spell Branch - Charms

Effects - A mix between a notice me not charm and a disullusionment charm. Hazes features slightly. Causes charm recipient to be utterly nondescript. Unless focused on with great intent the recipient of the charm will only be noticed as someone unimportant and normal.

    Incantation-Noctis Visum (night vision)

Wand movement- Slow circle around both eyes. Only able to perform on self.

    Spell Branch-Charm

Category-Low Level Dark Arts as classified by the ministry.

Effects- The night vision spell allows the caster better vision during the night. Everything will essentially brighten up when the spell is used. This spell is highly unknown, and only used by the DOM and other agencies.

Incantation- Addition of questio(seeking) at the end of any curse.

Wand Movement- Sharp jab toward curse recipient

    Spell Branch- Curse

    Spell Class-Dark Arts

Effects-By adding the seeking incantation to the end of a curse, it is able to follow the intended target to a point. Apparation will make it lose it's power, but not completely. Once blocked the spell is ended.

(This seems familiar, so if someone has already done this, I am not attempting to make it my own)

Incantation - Curangustus 'Cur - leg' 'Angustus - tighten'

Wand movement - Quick cirular motion at opponent leg followed by a harsh pulling back motion.

    Spell Branch - Curse

Effects - Causes a debilitatingly painful cramp (aren't they all?) in the victim's legs. Cramping lasts from a split second to thirty seconds depending on the power and intent of the caster.

    Incantation - Reboare

Wand Movement - A harsh downwards motion

    Spell Branch - Charms

    Spell Type - Chanelling

Effects - Causes a deafening sound that resonates in the victim's head for as long as the caster wills it.

    Incantation - Solum Sanus

Wand Movement - Drawing the rune for sound into a surface witht he tip of the wand.

    Spell Type - Charms

    Specialization - Warding

Effects - The spell is cast on the floor, usually in front of a door, as a last minute defense against intrusion. Should an intruder walk on the invisible rune the caster will hear a loud, unmistakable sound in his head informing him of the intrusion, even when in the deepest of sleep. Usually set with other wards and placed as a last minute warning if someone should breach the caster's wards without their knowledge. (This is how Dumbledore knows if someone is nearing his door.)

I just want to say (Even if it is a bit hypocritical) that I'm kind of getting tired of people making the incantation just be the direct Latin translation. JKR didn't do that, folks. She at least changed the word a little. So how about we all (me included) start making names more elegant? Instead of "flamma terra" (fire earth... burn the earth? i dunno) you could say "flammerra"... Just a thought...

    ULTIMATE DLP SPELL

Incantation - 'Dielpe' (Get it, DLP?)

Wand movement - motioning back of your wand at your own eye as if skull fucking with the tip pointed towards victim.

    Spell Branch - Pwnage

Effects - Sends victim to the dimension of 'The Office' where they will be ass raped, skull fucked, and power squated. HAWT

BTW, NinjaCow, look up at my nebulosus spell. I had planned to screw around with the Latin a bit but the word 'foggy' already had the word for countenance in it. So it worked. And as it is three in the morning for me I don't feel like thinking to hard... while at the same time I don't feel like making a billion 'Blood boiling' 'castrating' 'head exploding' spells.

    Incantation-Valdemus Valuntas (Valde-greatly....valuntas-senses.......supremus-hightening)

Wand Movement- None, only done wandlessly.

    Spell Branch-Wandless charm

    Spell Category- Ministry Controlled-Selective Use

Effects-Upon casting the spell, the 5 senses will be doubled in sensitivity, but this will only last 7 minutes for the average witch or wizard. With a more powerful caster, greater lengths can be acheived.

Breif History- The Head of the Auor Division for the Russian ministry succesfully kept the charm up for over 45 minutes during the cold war.

    Name: Ambidextrous Charm
    Incantation: Parilisio
Wand Movements: Pointed at one's non-wand arm.
    Reagents: None.
    Class: Mid-level Charm.
Effect: Allows casters non-wand arm to function equally as well as his/her wand arm, making the caster ambidextrous for a limited amount of time. Can last anywhere from ten minuets to an hour, depending on the skill of the caster and how tightly the spell matrix is wrapped around the arm.
Origin: Invented by Filius Flitwick, who used the charm during the final round of the thirty third British Wizarding Battle Royal in order to use a wand summoned from a fallen competitor to greater advantage. Flitwick defeated every competitor he faced using his duel wielding technique, his only true challenge being another duel wielder who had a much harder time using the wand in his left hand, and fell after Flitwick hit him with a nasty knee-reversing hex in his left side.

    Edit: Another Flictwick charm...

    Name: Tornado Shield Charm
    Incantation: Turtego
Wand Movements: Start with one's wand pointed outward at 9 O'Clock over one's head, and proceed to do a complete circle counter-clockwise from there in a quick, whipping motion.
    Reagents: None.
    Class: High-level Charm.
Effect: Creates a tornado of magical winds around the caster, causing all but the fastest of spells to be hurled off at contact. Can be held as long as the user continues to pour power into it, whilst holding his/her wand above his/her head. Extremely difficult to only cast for a few seconds, as it takes a few seconds to actually be summoned by less skilled casters.
Origin: Invented by Darius Flitwick and passed on to Filius Flitwick, who mastered the charm by learning to create the tornado almost instantaneously then apparating out of the tornado area, causing it to dissipate.

    Name: Clouds of Fire
    Incantation: Ton nuardents
    Classification: Illegal Illusionary Magic
Effect: Creates an illusion of thunder clouds made of fire, which covers five feet circle where the caster points at with their wand.
Wand Movement: 3 circles linked together, pronouncing ‘Ton’ on the first circle, ‘Nuar-’ on the second and ‘-dents’ on the third one. There is then a sharp slash before pointing the wand at the desired effect.
Notes: Was made by the French Dark Lord Fache who was killed by the French Minister of the time.

How often in a story does Harry have time to say a 5+ word spell? And how long is the average spell in canon? Not very.

"Ego fuga terga dare a is ea id!" Harry shouted. However, during the time it took for him to finish the incantation, Voldemort had already killed him with an 'Avada Kedavra'.

Where have you ever seen someone suggest a spell for in-battle use be that long?

Edit: And because this is a spell creation thread... and I don't want to double post...

    Name: Whistling Hex
    Incantation: Dolarba
Wand Movement: Slashing movement across the body.
    Reagents: None.
    Class: Legal Hex
Effect: Produces a bolt of magic that issues a high pitched whistle as it flies. It can deafen an opponent with a near miss if it passes by his/her head. If it strikes a target, that target will experience a horrible ear ringing in both ears until the counter-hex is applied, or until the spell matrix unwinds (can take up to an hour).
Origin: Created by Herr Wolfgang van Houtwen who used the spell to damage the hearing of one Ludwig van Beethoven out of jealousy over the latter's musical proficiency.

Random Latin words FTW, eh? And, I must ask, how many spells have been made that would be used in combat within this last page or so (i.e. the only people who are paying attention) that are more than one word? I haven't seen any. But out of battle spells can be as long as you like, I'd say. And, while I might be wrong, I believe that their might have been a canon transfiguration spell that was more than two words long.

Oh, and silent spell casting anyone? While you might studder over odd to say Latin if you have to say it out louf, that wouldn't be a problem if you use silent spell casting.

    Name: Greater Shield Charm
    Incantation:Potensatectum
    Classification: Highly advanced defensive charm
Appearance: A large, translucent, electric blue medieval shield.
Technique: Forming a cross with the wand while incanting the spell, and jabbing it through the intersection of the thin blue flames that appear.
Legal, requires very high-levels of magic. Not recommended for most people.
Effect: The Greater Shield charm takes defensive magic to a whole new, and much more risky level. Unlike its lesser cousins, it does not form a meager shield that can withstand a few curses before collapsing, or being recast easily. Only a very foolish, or very powerful mage would even attempt to cast it twice. The reason is that it takes two-thirds of the caster's current magical potential to cast, making it near indestructible. The Shield is mobile and 'smart', automatically moving to defend the caster by its own will. It can take anything short of the Avada Kedavra. When struck by a curse that can overwhelm it (like Crucio, or any other powerful spell, or when it is near its limit), it will detonate its remaining power outwards, in an attempt to reflect the curse.
Notes: This spell must NOT be used unless caster is in proper magical health, and at least reasonably powerful. The magical reserve exhaustion can, and in many cases has, lead to death.

    Name: Self-Powering Spell
    Incantation: Mutatio Corpus Valeo
    Classification: Human transfiguration
    Appearance: None
Technique: Hold the wand with the rear end in the palm of the wand hand, and the front end in the palm of the other while saying the incantation.
    Legal
Effects: The Self-Powering Spell is a relatively simple spell that can be dangerously powerful. It uses a certain percentage (decided by the caster) of the caster's magical reserve to increase his physical capabilities beyond their limits. While it is sometimes used as a testing exercise for people on the path of becoming Animagi, it is also quite dangerous if too much power is applied.
Notes: This spell was invented by Dr. Van Helsing, the famous Dark Creature hunter. Owing to the natural magic resistance of werewolves, vampires and other dark creatures, he powered himself up with this spell before engaging them in hand-to-hand combat.

    Name: Shadowy Eyes Curse
    Incantation: Atravisum
Classification: Offensive curse, minor dark magic.
Appearance: A small blob of black, ink-like substance shooting at the target's eyes.
Technique: Two jabs in the general direction of the target's eyes, followed by a light upward flick.
Effects: The Shadowy Eyes curse is ingenious in its design and brilliant in its effectiveness. Instead of blinding the opponent, it dims his vision in such a way that while his sight may adjust to stationary objects, he cannot make out moving figures as anything more than indistinct flitting shadows. His own movement further irritates his vision.
Notes: This is a commonly used spell by dragon-handlers, who hit a renegade dragon with it to confuse it before they can get around to stunning it.

An Interesting View of the CounterReformation

Disclaimer: I know very little of neither the Jesuit traditions nor the pieces of Christianity which belong solely to the Catholic Church, and a little Internet research will not amend this fault. I apologize for any inaccuracies or offense taken by a Catholic.

    Name
    : St. Petrus Canisius's Spell

    Incantation
: This spell was one of those rare and powerful magics that used both silent and spoken casting. The spoken part was: Ad maiorem Dei gloriam. The silent part was: Servo he katholike ekklesia!

Translation: Spoken - For the greater glory of God. Silent: Save the Catholic Church!

Legality: Governments had always banned spells of such great power as St. Petrus Canisius's Spell due to fear. Nevertheless, it was (and is) unlikely that any power on Earth could have stopped a wielder of magic mighty enough to cast a spell such as this.

    Class: Mind-magic.

Appearance/Effect: There was no visual appearance. The effect was very subtle and nearly impossible to describe. Here, in a brief sentence that does no justice to the actual spell, it will be summarized as best as possible. All the populace of central Europe (the region from Germany to Hungary) became easier to covert back to the Catholic faith and harder to convince to leave it for until approximately the year 1750.

There are two varying views of how this effect was achieved. The first is that the spell opened a person’s mind to see Jehovah. The second is that a person subconsciously listened to Canisius preach at them.

An important note is that, while the words spell and enchantment have been liberally used in this text, the piece of magic should not be characterized as such. Spells and enchantments are temporary and “not real”; they can be undone. When something is conjured – without any spells changing the process, as masters in Transfiguration tend to use – it disappears after a while. The same theory applies to most magic. But Canisius’s magic was different. It was not like other mind magics such as the Imperius Curse, which are seen as deviants from which, once bested, the mind will return to its natural state. Instead, the effect was alike – although far weaker – to the changes one has after a life-altering experience. No matter how powerful one can try to use Finite Incantatem or other magics to end the effect, it will fail. There is no effect to end. Trying to do so is akin to trying to magically change a person’s personality.

Wand Movements: Nobody saw Petrus Canisius actually cast this enchantment – knowledge of it officially came from detection spells, but the power of this charm was so great that it could have been sensed even without them. Nevertheless, it may be assumed that the spell was wandless. The exact movements seemed to have been for Canisius to use a special form of meditation: kneeled down with the lower parts of his legs on the ground and next to each other, straightened the rest of his body at the sky, put his hands together with each inner part (such as the palm) of one hand touching the corresponding point on the other hand, made the hands into a pointed shape, pointed the hands at a 45 degree angle away from his body, closed his eyes, and concentrated. In other words, he prayed.

Notes: In 1521, as the Protestant Reformation rocked Europe, St. Ignatius Loyola received a vision while recuperating from a battle wound, as the Catholics say. In fact, as the Veneficus Imperium Romanum, which rules all Europe (officially, but that’s another story), records, he had several visions. Jehovah did not allow him to reveal these visions, but the Unspeakables of the empire, which was great indeed at that time, stole from him the knowledge. One vision alone pertained to this topic, and Loyola was troubled much by it. (Note: This Magical Roman Empire was a true continuation of the Roman Empire located in Italy and unrelated to the German Holy Roman Empire.)

He saw the end of the Catholic Church, starting from Central Europe. In Northern Germany, the Lutherans converted and conquered. Bohemia fell and none was there to save it. Scandinavia was sundered, and none saved it either. The enemy found a new name – It started with Protes… And that name spread through Hungary like poison, and then the realm was broken by the Turkish foe. Southern Germany was gone. Rome was burning, burning, the Pope imprisoned. Then Britain went dark, as a bright candle suddenly blown out. In Geneva a bearded man with piercing eyes wrote “predestination.”

Now Poland was assailed, the Netherlands afflicted, France troubled, and still no one was helping. North and east, the angry tide lapped at the Catholic stronghold of Austria; south and west, the Turk hammered. Civil war engulfed France, and suddenly a tall king arose bearing a blue shield with three swords, swearing an oath: “Paris is not worth a mass.” Now the king was dead, but his son was promising to persecute the faithful. Austria found herself in peril unlooked for, and she fought till the last to purge the cancer. But thirty years of war gave the enemy victory.

And only Spain and Italy remained true in the entire continent, and it was too late to stop the flood. Spain was waning: Holland had wrested herself free from Phillip II, England was ascendant, a terrible inflation was destroying everything, and no king even tried to stop the hemorrhaging. Soon a madman was on the throne, and he had no heir. The countries of the West prowled like wolves around a dying carcass, and then the mightiest ruler of France put his grandson as lord of the country. Now the believers in that country, always enduring through the long centuries of decline, were burnt and slaughtered and murdered until none were left.

Last of all stood Italy, home of the Church, but she was divided and weak, weak, weak. A fire was spreading through Europe, old realms toppled, the king of France – still Protestant – beheaded. The other potentates tried to put it out, but it could not be stopped. And then Italy was besieged and taken by a river of red, the pope slain, and the Catholic Church passed away at the last.

Loyola at first was uncertain of what to do, and he wasted much time pondering upon his foreboding until the memory was lost to him. But time flew by, and many things that he had beheld came to pass. The Catholics record that in the year 1537, at the town of La Storta, he received another vision, and the Empire has written Loyola now determined to do everything possible to stop the doom of the Church, and thus the order of the Society of Jesus was founded. He himself, perceiving a way to stop the future, made some undertakings, and to his companions were given many duties. But the question of Central Europe, from whence the Reformation was begun, remained unresolved for a while.

To Petrus Canisius the task was given in the year 1547, and to him it is believed that Loyola told the story of the end of the Catholic Church. Then for long Canisius dwelt on how to deal with the enemy, who had indeed grown strong in the region. But if any preparations were made for the enchantment he would create, none were able to see them.

This enchantment was spelled in the year 1550, at the city of Ingolstadt. And Central Europe would never be the same.

Canisius spent most of his efforts at Southern Germany, believing that the fall of Austria and France, still bastions of Catholicism at the time, were due to the loss of that area to the Protestants. Yet in that era, Southern Germany had yet to be sundered from the Church, and with the spell of Canisius, the enemy remained confined to the north.

Such success was met in Poland too. The high-tide of the Calvinists had been in the Diet of 1555, but thenceforth under Stanislaus Hosius, Cardinal and Prince-Bishop of Ermland, and with the help of Canisius’s enchantment, the population was regained. In Bohemia the struggle was fierce and rough, but the last breath of the Protestant princes was taken in the dawning of the 30 Years War. Then Ferdinand II crushed their remnants, and Protestantism died in Austria before it could even start to take root. Then all that remained was Hungary, which was retaken from the Turkish power by 1699. Once again Leopold I of the Austrians dealt heavily with the heretics in the land, until the Catholic religion was restored. But the spell failed in two places. Northern Germany was a stronghold of the enemy and would never be regained, and the strength of the enemy in Switzerland was likewise.

There is strong disagreement over the final effect of Canisius’s spell. Certainly large parts of central and eastern Europe were reconverted to the Catholic faith. Austria was saved, not being surrounded by Protestant populations. Yet the effect this had on France and Spain is heatedly debated. More likely it was the role the Jesuits served as advisors and confessors to the French kings that prevented France from falling, and Spain and Italy with it. Moreover, the fate of the Netherlands, which stayed the same as in Loyola’s vision, was also an important factor in the decline of Spain, and Canisius’s efforts might better have been concentrated there.

It is definite fact that the countries changed by his magic were unimportant in the long term. The Netherlands dominated the seas in the 1600s and England after that. France became the strongest country in Europe, and Russia would rise after that. In central Europe, it was Prussia, not Austria, as Canisius thought, which became master of the region. Meanwhile, the countries that were saved – Poland, Bohemia, Hungary, the states of Southern Germany, and eventually Austria – would, in the following centuries, become pawns in a game played by far greater powers. They would be tossed back and forth and sacrificed in the chess games of the 19th and 20th centuries by a successor of rulers such as Napoleon, Bismarck, and Stalin. Only Austria was of any importance, but she would be annihilated after WWI.

Nevertheless, the enchantment of Canisius must be respected for its magical aspects. It was one of the few wandless and double-casted spells that could affect an area hundreds of miles wide. And, most of all, it genuinely changed the people who that were struck by it; there was no such thing such as “undoing” the magic.

Please keep spell history BRIEF in the future everyone. We don't need the history of the protestant movement as a spell description.

o_O Do you want yet ANOTHER useless battling spell? Here's an example:

    Name: The Super-Duper! Blasting Spell
    Incantation: Blastus inflatus
    Translation: strong blast
Legality: Illegal! (b/c it's dark magic!!!!!)
    Class: Dark magic!
Appearance/Effect: A pink-colored blast comes out of your wand and sends the opponent flying.
Wand Movements: Draw three circles and yell the spell!
Notes: Random!DarkLord used this spell to kill random person! And, of course, only the most skilled wizards in the world can use it.

I think you mean Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam. A bit insulting imo to use the Jesuit motto as the incantation for your spell but that's just me.
