I don't intend to play the game much, if at all, but logging in every 2 weeks shouldn't be too hard. I just signed up and have FUR and GEMS to trade for the glory of the DLP.

I've had offers from several alliances already, including a 200k bribe from NEO, and even some kind of "I'll show you how to make 100-500k a day, everyday!!!" spam.

Is Silver/Spices as a resource combo really that bad? It seems no one wants to trade with me. All the trade circles want the cookie cutter resources.

 

It's not bad at all man, it's not perfect, but that perfect trade set means shit until later on when it'll mean the difference in millions of dollars a day

 

For some reason I have the feeling aluminum and spices aren't that good of a combination ...

Perhaps your membership hasn't been upgraded? You should be able to see a common room, library, and barracks section. If not ask around and have them update your status.

Aluminum is great; it's needed for almost every single bonus resource, most of which can take a good chunk out of your infrastructure upkeep and costs, besides having a respectable bonus in itself. However, it also appears to be either the most common or second most common resource, so it's not extremely impressive; it's not really enough to define a set. Spices aren't bad, since many people choose to go for Fast Food due to the population boost, but they're subpar; not many people choose to do so, as Beer is better, both in terms of necessary resources and bonus (which is the same), and the bonus that Spice has really isn't great; in my own opinion, money bonuses (also happiness, which translates as 1 happiness = $2 income) aren't the best, as they're fairly insubstantial in the long run- Population increasers and infrastructure decreasers are the way to go, as they show serious improvements in comparison once you reach higher incomes, and that $3-4 means very little. Of course, bonus resources are more or less the exception, since many of them appear from simply making the right resource choices, though they're something to keep in mind (say, if you end up with Lead like me, then it's probably preferrable to go for Microchips and get the happiness bonus rather than take a neutered resource set with Cattle; in the beginning at any rate). Coal and Oil are both amazing resources that hurt your environment, so those are probably the best to start with, as almost everyone either wants or needs them. Although it may be somewhat hard to get trades early on though, since they're a fairly big hit to your environment.

You can find some decent guides here, although the only way to find the best ones are to join an alliance; GOD is more or less suggested if you're on this forum, as it's a significant player in CN at the moment, and is part of a fairly huge MDP web, which more or less translates to the fact that you have people backing you up should the alliance ever get into a war. It's a safe pick, and if you're on these forums anyways...
