The morning star would be awesome. I can see Harry flailing Machiavelli around, cutting them any Death Eater that gets close. Heh. Machiavelle, his Morning Star user title? Get it? Okay, bad joke.

I would really say the English longbow. The only person that did that was TikaRikku (I think), whose Archer kinda ruined the concept.

Cleric!Harry would be cool, as in Equilibrium Cleric . I can only remember a couple of fics where Harry was a living weapon (but the only clear memory is of one that was just a oneshot) but it would be cool to see him in a plot similar to Equilibrium, cause that film rocked.

Still, Robocop and scarface!Harry could be amusing, though I've never really been a fan of gangster films and Robocop would have to be majorly adapted to incorporate magic. Don't want his circulation equipment going dead if he casts a spell after all .

Also, I think these posts should be put into a different thread, seen as we've completely hijacked this one . If a mod could do that I imagine it could be useful.

Careful what you wish for. I have around 21,000 words of notes for a concept which, if turned up to 11, could easily escalate to Harry constructing the equivalent of small, magic-powered mechs.
Don't worry, it'll never see the light of day.

Haha! I remember that, now that you mention it. It was a rather funny moment from Harry Potter and the Runespoor Shield.

I remember someone starting a fic like this. Its title is simply 'V', it has three chapters and hasn't updated since the end of April.

 

Doesn't bother me too much for the most part. Except for the ones who post the whole lyrics for a Greenday song or something in place of half their chapter. If ya want a songfic, write it yerself is my motto.

 

If a story has pop cultural reference and isn't in the humor genre I tend to gripe a lot about it. Maybe one or two isn't enough to make me exit the story, but eventually it'll wear down my patience and cause me to spam hate reviews. Ya, I do that when the stories a complete shit.

In my eyes, the Harry Potter universe pretty much socially isolates the muggle world from the wizard world. The only reference to the muggle world that I remember from Harry and his friends during Hogwarts was about Dean's soccer thing and something about electricity. Hearing 20th century muggle songs and shit is like hearing "beam me up" in Star Wars. Completely random.

 

I get bothered when I see Harry referencing American bands.
Having grown up in the 90s in the UK (and still proud to be here) I can personally attest to the greatness of Britpop. What's wrong with a bit of Oasis, Blur, Pulp or Suede. Hell, we could even go for a bit of The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays. Or If you aren't into that, we could get talking about House and other dance music.
MOst pop-culture references that I've seen aren't that noticeable, or if they are, I've simply blanked them. Out-of-date ones (or is it pre-date ones?) annoy me the most. Harry cannot have an mp3 player, nor can he listen to anything after '97 (speaking of which, you could go all Radiohead!fanboy on his ass...).
This, of course, could be put in randomly, like 'Dudley's stereo was blaring out the sounds of some popular band...' and in this case it could serve to just date the fic and add a little depth to it - rather than to pass judgement and push emo!Harry onto us.
