I just loaded up Firefox about 3 minutes ago, and it seems to think it was just installed, my problem is that it has deleted all 50 some odd of my bookmarks. Anybody know where I'd find those at, or are they all gone?

You could try searching in the firefox folder C:\Programs\Firefox or something. Maybe they're still there.

It happened to me recently, but the next time I used firefox they were back. No idea what that was about. The same may happen to you.

I tried restarting firefox twice, and it didn't work, I also looked through the Mozilla Firefox folder, but I couldn't find anything named Bookmarks, or Favorites, or any such. This really sucks, because I had so many bookmarks that I probably won't ever find again.

Did you not make a backup of your bookmarks via export? The new firefox v3 does support daily backups/restores of the bookmarks.

The location of the bookmarks depending on your OS will be something like - assuming your using Vista and your username is Administrator and your drive is C:/

    Code:
    C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
There is a directory in there, go in it and the bookmark file is called bookmark.html

I'd suggest getting something like Mozy or I-Drive which offers free 2GB online storage and make sure you backup all your e-mails and important files as well.

    Try reinstalling the former version.

    A) Vista fails, I"m using XP
    B) I didn't make a backup, I assumed that I didn't have to, most of my programs don't spontaneously fail on me, I backup important files, not bookmarks...
I'll try reinstalling the former version, Mordac, not that I've updated it recently...

Thus you have learned your lesson. This has happened to me many times. I suggest getting the Del.Icio.Us Bookmarks extension and a Del.Icio.us account. S'free and online storage of bookmarks.

The Blue Organizer extention lets you add to Del.Icio.Us as well, but I havent used it much yet.

Well, I'll just have to re-find my bookmarks. Thanks for the attempts, people.
I've obtained the del.icio.us addon like you suggested, Vash, and have learned my lesson.

Dude, its just porn. You'll get over it, even if you can't find that pic of the chick from last months issue of amputee swimsuit monthly. :)

I mostly bookmark games, forums, mod-sites, specific mods, and such.
If I was looking for porn I wouldn't need a bookmark, 90% of the internet is porn..

I dunno about you, but my Firefox has a "bookmark backups" folder.

Try looking around for that. In Linux it's in .mozilla. In Windows, Mozilla says:

    Hope that helps.

Here is an path example for you to adjust with the correct location for your system (assuming it is windows xp).

    *DRIVELETTER*:\Documents and Settings\*USERNAME*\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*default*\

Replace *DRIVELETTER*, *USERNAME* and *DEFAULT* with the correct values for your system (without the asterisks).

Within the correct subfolder contained within Profiles should be a file named bookmarks.html or .bak and or a folder with bookmark backups. To restore your bookmarks manually just overwrite bookmarks.html with the backup copy.

Unless firefox 3.0 completely clears your profiles folder during installation, backups and all other files included. Then they should still be there.

Hope this helps. Also your problem should be an example to us all to treat installing beta versions carefully and always backup anything we do not want to lose before installing/updating software (heh I am plenty guilty of not doing so either from time to time), cause shit happens.

I'm going to remember this for quite some time, I'd give you +rep for fixing my problem if I could. All my bookmarks were there, took 15 seconds to import.
The main thing that caught me off-guard is that I hadn't actually updated Firefox at all.
