Eh if you want the movie just go over to isohunt.com and download it before the they law-suit against them is over with. Though that probably won't be for at least another year....

The Death Note manga is certainly orgasmic.

Dammit, and I was almost over the craze with Death Note (I tell you, it was quite the "trend" in HK during the September - November period, then Death Note: The Last Name got released in HK theatres, Volume 13 translated into Chinese, L's name revealed...and people forgot about it =( ) and now DLPers discover it...

The movie sucked just a bit though. The anime not as much, but lost my interest nevertheless...even if the opening looks good!

But the manga, like I just said, is pure awesomeness. Kira's ingenious schemes...the good characterizations...L...and Obata's art...is...just ftw. (The artists of the anime drew not as good. =| )

The second arc didn't even compare to the epicness of the first arc though. L... T_T And that fucking arrogant faggot Near and that pure loser Mello comes in...oh, and I suppose the ending was badly dealt with. Very disappointing. =(

And if there's anything I ever fangirl for (I suppose a lot, eh?), it's L...and his weird/cute fetish with sweets =D -manages not to squee!- And Light too, to an extent (he got boring during the Yotsuba or whatever that's called, arc.) And Misa is hawt.

Still, Death Note would always be my favourite manga...that is, until the next one comes by.

Okay, I just finished the anime with the link Vash gave. It's sheer pwnage, all of it. From perfectly timed delivery to an intense ambiance to a captivating plot, all of which had me kicking my slow connection for the next episode.

I've started to read the manga, which is equally as pwnage. :D

Death Note is simply genius. I'm currently watching the anime. I've never read the manga and I'm probably not going to since I heard the anime is good enough and follows the story well.

I recommend it to anyone who hasn't yet seen/read it.

I've only watched up to episode 12, but it is a great anime.

Almost as important though, is that now Vash's avatar makes more sense!

    L Dies!!11!

A very innovative series. A good debut for a manga series. This was even nominated for an award of best anime series of 2006.

The manga is set in 2003, but the anime is set in 2007 oO

I got tired of waiting for the anime, so I'm reading the manga now. I usually don't like anime, or manga but this series is certainly unique and brilliant enough. Kudos to the author and the artist -- It has lots of twists and turns. Oh, heres another spoiler:

    RAITO LIGHT (KIRA) DIES!11!!

I don't think this post will be considered necroposting because it contains news, but if it is I am sorry.

The dub appears on Adult Swim here in America and you can buy it on Amazon. It is pretty good, but then again I have never seen the original Japanese episodes. The voice actor for Light is great, but I'm not too sure about L's.

On a related note, I just finished all of the Manga. The second half of the series wasn't as good as the first. I didn't like Near or Mello, they both annoyed me and it looked like they had more luck than skill.

On the subject of the ending - it was fitting. It was emotional and I almost cried. The whole series was beautiful. The characters of Light and L are both characters you root for.

There a few new Death Note books coming out next year: An encylopedia, a spin-off novel set in L's past, and a Death Note rule book or something.

Replace the character's names, and you've got my opinion on the matter. L's voice is great, Light's...well, I like the actor, but he definitely does not fit the role.

That said, I agree with the rest of Cyclops's post. The first half, great, everything with Near and Mello...meh. It did show a distinct carelessness on Light's part, though. I don't know about you, but I would have suggested Mikami keep a page of the Death Note on hand at all times, and for him to have used that to "defeat" Near at the end. But no...Light didn't think things through. Rather out of character of him, I think.

The second arc sucked, no one can deny this. If you read the manga however you will find that they cut out a lot of dialogue for the anime adaption. Dialogue that made the second arc suck less.

As for the English Dub's voice actors. When Light is playing the part of the ideal student I think his voice fits perfectly. However when he is Kira his voice doesn't change at all. L's voice didn't really work, though the voice scrambler sounded amazing. As for the other voices I'm not sure, I prefer subs over dubs, so I haven't been following the dub very closely... what episode are we on?

    EDIT: Happy Demon?

How does one skip dialogue that does not exist?

I've watched the anime a while back. Wasn't the best thing eva but it was not horrible. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is the best new anime for me.
I liked how they had Light go to, nice and angry in the start, then at the end crazy and evil.
L was also, quite fun to deal with. Near and the other brat Mello, they failed.
Still... the Death Note is such a fun thing to wish for.

Oh oh! America voice acting for Light sucks.
It will be great once they have Light run into the more insane speeches he does, and see the USA actor fail at it.

Yeah, I'm going to be a massive nerd here, but YouTube has the best Death Note AMV. Half of it is a fake band, but it then shows the real band in the second part.

Best part of Death Note is that Chairman Kaga plays Light's dad in the live action movie.

Does anyone know any of good Death Note fanfiction that isn't slash? The majority of the fics I see listed are all slash and I wonder why it outnumbers non-slash stories.
