Ok, I got this idea, and wanted to brainstorm with people to figure out if it's worth anything.
Harry, for some reason yet to be established--you can pitch in ideas--ends up in the care of an employee of the Chinese government in the UK. This guy, who ideally would have some connection to the wizarding world--possibly be a member of the Chinese magical government--would eventually go back to China. There, he would be raised in a communist culture and imbued with Maoist revolutionarie ideals. Then, a decade later, the Hogwarts letter would come....
Thoughts?

 

Screw the Chinese communists. Soviets are more awesome.

 

Yes, I thought of using the soviets too, but I decided against it because the Soviet Union had fallen by the time Harry went to Hogwarts. Also, Chinese girls are hotter.

 

China fails at communism. The magical government of Russia could quite easily still run under communist ideals. Vodka is ridiculously superior to rice wine. Harry raised in the Siberian tundra would utterly destroy Harry raised in a rice paddy. Russia could, with a little manoeuvring, have played a part in the Grindelwald conflict.

And that's just the first points that come to mind.

As for the idea, I guess I'd read it if it doesn't feature a weeaboo!Harry who goes around saying "ni hao" or exhibit any clichéd Asian characteristics...

 

The problem with using Russia is that someone has already suggested a Harry taken by the Soviets and raised by an ex-KGB officer, brainwashed with communist ideology. I'll see if I can find the thread.

 

There better actually be a Soviet Harry story...

I suppose it would be amusing if Harry continuously echoes Karl Marx's speeches and thoughts, and maybe some ancient Chinese sayings/philosophies...

I looked up, and Harry Potter-- I'm sorry, Grigori Innokentiy-- was walking towards me.

"What the hell?"

I stopped and stared at him, tilting my head to the side.

...Well, on one hand, he's utterly insane and a goddamn asshole Gryffindor. On the other hand, he's hot and rich. The rumors about how well-endowed he is don't hurt too much either.

"Sure. You're buying me dinner first, though. At a nice place."

"British pig! Don't you understand how flawed your system of being inequal with no regards to the need of the people is? Don't you understand the evil in the act of supporting such a system? And most importantly, what's wrong with the Great Hall, seeing as we're both students?"
