I'm getting a bit lost here. Is Su Li a canon character or is she just one of LT2000's creations that for some reason reached massive fanon popularity?

 

According to wiki and a TV Special Su is a student in Harry's year that's mostly ignored.

Is she ever mentioned in the books?

 

Dunno, I'd seen the special some time before and assumed she was just used as a blank slate type of character, the way Blaise used to be.

 

No, Su Li is only mentioned in Rowling's notes, and never in the book. She is just a popular fanon character. *shrugs* I've got a short story coming up with her in it, so whatever. One character not ruined by Rowling.

Thank God JKR is not totally retarded after all and changed the original name.

 

I seem to recollect some speculation that she was the prototype Cho Chang, before JKR changed her mind. I cannot remember where I read it - I will post the link if I find that discussion.

 

This brings a new question to mind:

Of the two below, which name is worse?

A) Queenie Greengrass
B) Astoria Greengrass

 

The first sounds plain terrible, while the other sounds like one made up by your run-of-the-mill fangirl.

I honestly cannot decide which is worse. Both are puke-worthy names.

 

Where did the *Astoria* idea come from? Is that one of JKR's weirder name mistakes?

 

According to the Lexicon, Astoria Greengrass is the name of Draco Malfoy's wife.

 

Su Li is a vicious azn with small mammaries and a huge twat. That must be slapped.

Who the hell cares about Draco Malfoy's wife? Queenie is the worst potential name in the HP verse I've ever heard, no question about it. Not counting Albus Severus, of course.

The "classlist" allows includes never-book-mentioned Morag McDougal, Lisa Turpin, Kevin Entwhistle from Ravenclaw, Wayne Hopkins from Hufflepuff, Somebody Moon, blah blah blah, etc.

According to wikipedia, that name could mean anything. So who knows what she "knew all along" about the "entire plot line, obviously".

Or what she'd think of what became of her unused scribbled notes? All fodder for her upcoming "Scottish book" (the encyclopedia), which will contain entirely old material, nothing made up recently, I assure you.

Mandy Brocklehurst and Lisa Turpin are both mentioned in the initial sorting ceremony (PS) as getting sorted into Ravenclaw. Morag MacDougal and Moon are mentioned in the Sorting ceremony, but their houses are not listed anywhere,. AFAIK.

Kevin Entwhistle, Megan Jones, Wayne Hopkins, Su Li, and Tracy Davis are all purely from the notes that she has.

Astoria? It's also a location in New York, among other places, it's mentioned in the title of an album by The Ataris, but most importantly, it's where the Goonies live.

My image of Su Li has always pretty closely matched LT2000's from Dakaath; Prince of Darkness.

I had a notion once to pair her up with Harry and Morag, back in the day, just to write something that used a few of the lesser known Ravenclaws. Neither character exists in the books (beyond the mention of Morag's name during the sorting) but I've always had very specific images of them in my head. Funny that.
