In various fanfics, it is stated that she has a pug-like face and is engaged to Draco Malfoy. I would just like to know if there is ant basis in canon for this claim and where is the proof.

She is pug faced (I think this was spoken of in the Yule Ball scene in GoF, when she and Malfoy come down the staircase, but I could be wrong. Check the Lexicon to be sure.), but she's not engaged to Draco Malfoy. JKR has said in an interview that Malfoy marries Daphne Greengrass' sister.

The part about her being pug faced is mentioned when Harry and Malfoy clash over Neville's remembrall, I think (she supports Malfoy, while Parvati sticks up for Neville).

I don't think it is mentioned anywhere that Pansy and Draco are engaged - unless it is in book 7, which I have not read, not have I any plans of reading.

Nearly every time Pansy appears in the books, she's described as having "a face like a pug."

    Right...

Malfoy marries Astoria Greengrass. They were never engaged.

How old is Astoria? I keep thinking that she's, like, heaps younger and Malfoy plucked the cherry before it was ripe.

Two years younger than Malfoy. I forget offhand when the two were married, most likely because I really couldn't care less about anything related to Draco Malfoy's married life.

    Year under Ginny, hm?

Wonder if he was dipping the ol' carrot in the dip at Hogwarts?

...I can just see it now. What Draco Malfoy was really doing in the Room of Requirement in 1996/1997. [IMG]

Her looks aren't exactly mentioned favorably in canon but, except for one instance, it's always by people who hate her guts, so you have to take that into account.

Skeeter says she's pretty, but you can't exactly trust her either.

People's opinions on her looks are usually explained away or glossed over in fics where she's in a main pairing. Or her looks are flat-out improved (ie. the ugly was a glamour spell or she had her face fixed, blah blah blah).

There have been some other threads here where this has been discussed, so a search should turn them up fairly easily, if you're interested.

For reasons even I can't explain, I took a liking to Harry/Pansy pairings not long after I started reading HP fic. *shrug* Go figure.

She's mentioned enough in the books that you can use her history as a jumping off point for different plots but, at the same time, she's mentioned so little that you can pretty much use her as your own personal OC and mold her however you want...

Unlike characters such as, say, Draco, who is, without a doubt, a certifiable jackass in canon; a condition that is hard to explain away in a realistic fashion, without putting real effort into it. Fangirls don't get this and don't put in the effort. Non-fangirls DO get this, but rarely have the inclination to reform the prick in such a way. I mean, really, why bother?
