But isn't the -okostos suffix one of the modern Greek innovations?

This Means War was finished. It's over at ffa.

One that always pissed me off was "Animagus Reverto", the spell to force someone out of their Animagus form. I don't remember (and I don't have CoS on hand to check) Sirius and Remus using this spell in CoS, so why the fuck does nearly every fanfic writer insist on using it?

Was it used in the PoA movie? Lots of fanon seems to absorb movie bits.

Fanfics often adopt good names and spell's from other good fanfics and it repeats until it becomes gospel.......etc...Hermione's middle name Jane when in DH it states that it's jean. Thats not far off but goblin names such as goldfarb or hookknife are widely used....spell's such as animagus reverto or caucus are the widely used spells for reverting animagus and striking enemies blind respectively. It sucks.

Caucus? What does that do, elect a presidential nominee?

    It is, actually.

Hermione's middle name is Jane, not Jean. Do any of you know Rowling's justification for changing her middle name in DH?

She shares the name Jane with Umbridge. Yeah. Fucking idiot.

To reiterate, Hermione's middle name is Jane.

IMO "Hermione Jane Granger" scans better than "Hermione Jean Granger."

[random remark - not advancing the discussion]

Lol, I believe that is the adjective for 'blind' in Latin.

What really annoys the hell out of me is someone getting a translator from some ubscure language and sticking a few words in.

Suddenly 'Cut with a blade of death' is 'Percutire Vesica Mortis'. It sounds cool at first (when you're twelve), but when you see it time after time in every language from Welsh to whatever the Aboriginals speak, it gets annoying fast.

Yeah, rainbow mark spell, that definitely qualifies.
Another one that qualifies are where the author mixes two different spells, for example the killing curse and the patronus, or stupefy and the little bird spell Avis.

What does THAT do? Is it some sort of self-targeting death spell?

I still like "Accio Voldemort's brain" as a way of doing him in. Though spine, lungs, heart, etc will work, too.

Sort of a less personal version of Harry doing an 'Accio my blood', thus exsanguinating the dark lord to death in the blink of an eye?

Actually, that's a defensible premise, assuming that you can't accio someone ELSE's organs (which would end duels Really Fast.) But I can see being able to summon something that is so intimately your own. The problem is that human blood has a very short life. I think the replacement is only a matter of weeks for the entire body.

I don't know...whenever I see you, or someone else saying Accio blank organ, I think that the rest of the body would come along with it. For instance, say you summon Voldemort's heart. The way I see it, that's an entirely pointless endeavor, since it would summon the entirety of Voldemort's body, chest first.

On the other hand, I could imagine using a spell combination such as, say, summoning Voldemort's brain (thus summoning Voldemort, head first) and conjuring a spear right in its path, thus instantly lobotomizing (and almost definitely killing) him.

Or, if you are wizard enough to pull it off, summon one part and banish others. That ought to have at least some effect...

Ooh! Ooh! I've got an idea!
After sex, have the guy accio his semen. It wouldn't have had time to find an ova, so this would be a damn-near perfect form of birth control.
And the incantation could be SUCH fun...

Kills dementors, but Voldemort is the one who uses it.
As for World's statement about Summoning and Banishing charms that has been done in a Black Comedy, used to break Voldemort's neck.
