Many authors have a top 5 on their author bio at FFN, for example Syao, I think that's what DLP needs. DLP's top ten story's, must reads, representing DLP, everyone knows them/has read them. Of course The Office will be #1. Followed by things like Shezza's RoA and nonjon's Where in the world is Harry Potter series. One's everyone knows and have read.

These are just some of the obvious ones. I don't feel like spending any more time hunting down some of the old greats, so this is a decent start.

 

PLEASE don't mention black comedy its the only thing thats simultaneously made me shoot something out my nose while throwing up.(I was really really hung over.) That and I hate to say it jon but its full of cliches and sometimes not even funny ones e.g. Piers Polkis(SP?) cures cancer was it even necessary to mention that.

 

dotdotdot... It's a parody. It's supposed to take the piss. It is a very good fic, and it doesn't matter if you nearly drowned in a pool of your own vomit, your opinions which are based on your hangover of the time are not needed.

Also, it's witty little lines like the one about Piers Polkiss that set authors like nonjon apart from the rest of the filth at ff.net.

On topic, I can't think of any right now that haven't been mentioned already, though I'll try and think up some if I can.

First I like it I don't love it. Second I like it not because of its cliches and the fact that I shot vomit from two orifices on my body at the same time reading it, but because of its quality of writing, a decent plot(at least I think there is a plot,) and the fact that its downright hilarious at times. I'd just rather not read it right now as I just got back from the trip to my relatives for my 18th Birthday.

 

Don't come here and post all your fucking favorite story. Yeah most of them are somewhat descent and few downright epic but we didn't need another library...

The point is to make a "Must Read" list, not the favorite list of some random guy.

Anyway, the idea will never get very far, there too much story and people in DLP now.

If we found someone who really is a caricature of DLP mindset and let him choose... It could be quite funny. IMO it would be funnier to write a list representative of everything DLP approve. :banana:

Yeah some people will hate the story, found them stupid and everything. But I believe there is no point in making another smaller library, just make a list of story that a noob have to read for understanding DLP and make them flee in terror.

People aren't really getting what my original point was and in the beginning I don't think Taure did either.

It was ment to be a list of 'DLP Must Read' as in DLP Authors.

If you want to have a "DLP MUST READ ZOMG list", you must first know what you really want:

Do you want the best fics out there that are not epic fail at the same time (slash, H/G, whathaveyou)?
Do you want those fics, that best portray the manic DLP mindset, i.e. The Office, Oedipus Flower... ?
Or do you want the most successful fics by authors on DLP, i.e. nonjon, Shezza et al?

If you got that, then you can squabble about who gets to do what.

 

Sort of like that, but not 'most successful' as in the most well know at FFN or Ficwad or what have you, just what we think is the best.

 

Jesus, everyone, let's not get all butt-hurt over some dude putting out his list of 'Must Reads.' Some of those probably go with your own list. I know I would put about a fourth of what he put down there in my own. He was trying to be helpful, he's new, and people act like he just rammed you all and DLP up the asshole. Chill.

Back on topic: Lincos, if you don't want most successful then what do you want? The ones that are best are the ones that we all read the most and the sheep over at FFN have to have SOME sort of mental capacity so they'll read them, too. If we are going for a 'DLP Must Read' specifically, then you should put in Vash's stories, The Office, and those other few that show off the DLP mindset.

 

Well, if the stories are big over at FFN and that then thats fine, as long as we don't base it off their popularity there but it's DLP Popularity.

and why on earth would we have a DLP's 'Must read' list if it doesn't have the fic's we believe that everyone on DLP 'Must Read'?

Edit: No this isn't a 'Devil's Advocate' post either, It's kinda stupid to have if it's not complete. The problem with that of course is that we all have different standards (As pointed out repeatedly) Ergo, while this looks good in print, It's fairly impossible to actually accomplish.

 

Because its a 'DLP must read' not a fucking 'Harry Potter Fanfiction of the fucking world must read 'list.

 

Re: Re rating very old stories, perhaps the easiest way to start would be to mark stories posted to the library prior to the rating system?
Sorta like old movies not being rated?

Or maybe not?

 

Chill out chibi, the point I'm making is that we have absolutely no reason to censor our list, it'd go to DLP members only. Besides, as I said before, the Idea that all the members who count agreeing on any list set forth is so improbable that the odd of getting struck by lightning twice on a clear day look like a sure thing in comparison.

Edit: Pagan's Idea is plausible I suppose, but I think it might work better slowly move all the stories over two years old into the 'for review' section and see if they still pass muster.
