Moreover, why would he? Does she have the kind of money it would take to get one of the most dangerous men on the planet to teach her a skill that nearly any wizard can learn? Does he owe her any kind of favor that might justify this waste of his time? It's like getting a Shuttle pilot to teach a high school student to drive. Would teaching her this skill serve the interests of Harry or Kwan in ANY way? Has she demonstrated an intelligent, ethical respect for the skills or rights of other people? Can she be trusted not to use Apparition to get in the way when Harry and Kwan are trying to fight Voldemort? Or just trying to get on with their lives?

 

Just playing devil's advocate here for sec... but that same argument could be made for asking why Kwan would help teach Harry in the jungle, at least to a degree.

As to a reason why... well... she is the anchor for those blood wards now, so helping her stay alive is in Harry's best interest.

Does she herself have the money... not likely... but her parents would be FAR from poor. Dentists are well paid.

You're absolutely right that it's somewhat overkill... but it's more like sending a kid to a NASCAR race training camp or a tactical/aggressive driving school to learn how to drive than a shuttle pilot. Does it mean that the situation warrants it? Nah... to be honest, Hermione is pretty much locked down at the school... where she can't apparate anyway.

Now, if there's a reason for her to learn something...then it could make sense if time is of the essence and it's something Kwan feels would be suitable to involve himself in. It could be a situation much the way some rich families make sure their children get tactical driving classes so that they can escape pursuit if they are in danger. Something done out of necessity or out of forethought.

 

No as Kwan said when Harry thanked him. He taught him so he wouldnt be a liability since Kwan wasnt going to wait around and help stupid cook.

 

So... you're saying that if she is going to be around (which she has to be to charge the wards) much like Harry was as a cook... then her not knowing how is a liability... which at least in part justifies teaching her so that she's not so much a liability anymore.

-mind you now... I'm just playing devils advocate. I personally think that Kwan would not be a good teacher for her because she'd piss him off with all her questions and wouldn't be able to internalize that his methods are actually good ones for learning to survive (mainly because it's all practical and not heavy on theory)

I'm not questioning that Kwan would be effective... but she'd hate him in no time flat... and that would prevent her from learning the real lessons he'd impart.

Nope, she has to be in Hogwarts to charge the wards. If the wards at Hogwarts fall, she has more problems than not knowing how to apperate.

 

The only reason for Hermione to learn how to apparate would be that "anchoring" the wards allows her to apparate inside of them. In that case it would be helpfull for her to be able to move around, but still not a really compelling reason.

How did we actually arrive at this discussion? It might be funny to include Kwan torturing her for shit and giggles, but Omakes are usually more Rors style instead of jbern's

 

I actually had a question about Hack, does he actually speak english or only spanish?

Other than that the strategy aimed at keeping the enemy guessing is always a good one no matter the circumstances in my opinion.

I'll default to Hack speaking English and say that the Goblins require all transactions in English for some stupid reason. Actually he would speak Portuguese in Brazil.

You could always go for the 'easy answer' of an object with a 'translation charm' on Hack.

Better yet; easiest way to do it that a troll wouldn't lose it, would be to put a filling in one of his teeth that had the charm bound to it. Preferably a molar that's unlikely to get knocked out in the rough-and-tumble of Troll business.

 

Why just a tooth anyway? Enchant his whole head and be done with it! He won't loose it in "rough-and-tumble", and if he will, his inability to communicate would have become quite understandable, if a bit permanent...

 

Better yet, use the Babel Fish.

I figured you couldn't permanently enchant a living creature like that, thus, a filling in a tooth seemed best, since I figured something with a translation charm would be appropriate to be as close to the mouth as possible - if not, as in is in this case, inside it.
