Mehetabelo's Black Kisses (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2160478/1/Black_Kisses) was and still is awesome, but it hasn't been updated since '06. Someone already mentioned jon3776's Redemption of the Black Sisters.

eQuasarus (Mehetabelo) has several good fics, including Hidden and Changing Faces. The both got up to 22 chapters, but sadly, haven't been updated since '05. http://www.fanfiction.net/u/104816/

EDIT: There was another story, a Vampire Harry story, that featured insane vampire Hermione, vampire Ginny, and traitorous Vampire Draco. It was well-written, and fairly disturbing. I think it's been pulled down since.

One that I really miss is Avus's Getting Harry Back. It was close to being complete, but then the author's wife had a six-month stay in the hospital and is still recovering. Good reason to go on haitus, but I'd still like the rest of the story. It's the best Abused!Harry story I've ever read, probably because the author is a shrink who specializes in abused children.

Yeah, I think Abused!Sodomized!Crying!Broken!Harry was not what the thread had in mind. And by think, I mean absolutely certain.

I don't understand Dalyon's Of Blood and Power though. It's chapters are very short, and it begins with Harry absorbing Voldemort's memories and going down into the Chamber of Secrets.

Look at the name, it should be obvious.
It also has Harry utterly pwning dear Bella to avenge Sirius, some politics, Nicholas Flamel, Harry carving his own side of the war, and breaking into Azkaban to free one of the strongest wizards in England. There are things I might have forgotten since I read it long ago, but it is definitely worth reading the whole thing.

You would be correct, I didn't have any of the above in mind when I saw this thread.

Abused and sodomized?! By god! Sounds like Catechism, or Cachetism (whatever), the single most fucked up Harry Potter fic I have ever attempted to read.

Damn Phil, you were right about Dalyon's fic. Of Blood and Power was great. Even more entertaining than Reign of Power. I can't help but think he would have fit well here, were he still active. Blatantly calling rules shit, the admin dictators. Ha.

As always, YMMV. I probably should have mentioned... I started out in Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. This is only significant because at the time, about 75% of the fandom was in love with angst. So they wrote a lot of it. Which means that while my tolerance is lower than many, many FoLCs, it's higher than a lot of other people's.

Harry Potter and the Pride of Gryffindor by Jonny English.

IIRC, this story features a lot of what would now be considered standard training cliches, but was unusual because of the amount of time dedicated to telling the story of Harry's professional Quidditch career. I remember being very entertained, but that was 3-4 years ago. YMMV.

Yeah. Just a few of the many unfinished stories I'd like to see completed.
I had to dig around a while to find this one. It's The Boy Who Died by writelikeademon as far as I know. It didn't particularly stand out, to me, but I always hate it when I can't remember the title of a fic that I damn well know I have on my hard drive, so if I can find one for someone else...

Ahh, it's nice to see authors like Dzeytoun and neutral mentioned again. C. Night or Ruskbyte get many more mentions in comparison. Of course, their stories are still there at FFN, only abandoned. I remember fics that were epic yet no longer are hosted there...

Holding Court by Marshes To Banks... never was much popular. OC perspective. Totally forgotten.

Potter's Field by Acerbus Sidus. Fuck I remember loving it once. Also his Slytherin Serpent I: Let There Be Light.

History Retold and The One True Heir of Slytherin by Illeanah.

Ottilchen's Under Suspicion. Warning: Harry and Snape friendship.

But above evrything else... TALK ABOUT AEDALENA BITCHES! Her Nullifier and Extrapolation are both unfinished, and the second is what, 4 chaps. Among the best TimeTravel stories anyone would ever read.

Also... does anybody remember A. S. Leif? Or, say, HoshiHikari or Wujjawoo? :p

A favorite of mine from that was apparently abandoned early last year was Harry Potter and the Hero's Path by JackofDiamonds.

    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2869936/1/

Don't know if it counts as forgotten by readers but it was an excellent fic that hasn't been updated for about a year.

You know, that guy had some great ideas, but he was a terrible writer. Absolutely horrible spelling/grammar and his character development was shitty. He definitely is a physics/engineering major, but he writes like a high school student. I never thought a lot of those ideas would be ever integrated into anything outside of physics textbooks but he managed it. Maybe with a beta he could have had a decent story.

Evening. I only became aware of this thread a couple of days ago & decided to make some contributions. Hopefully it will revive interest in the subject ~! (and not get me much heat for necroposting)

I got into the HP fandom long before OotP came out,and so,I like to think I'm somewhat well read .. the stuff I'll be recommending aren't exactly DLP material, but, sometimes, they come close. Think of them as almost recommended fanfiction,if you will. All of the fics I'll give links to are complete(except one),and most were started,if not completed, before OttP.All ignore HBP/DH (always a plus!).

First is the arc of stories by Horst Pollman :

    http://forums.fictionalley.org/fics/search.php?quickjump=on&mode=Author&query=horst+pollman

H/Cho post GoF AU.Simply the best piece of HP fiction ever,IMO. Over a million words in total, distributed among 6 stories. If you find the series hard to get into ignore the fifth year story and go straight to the sixth year one.I know that's what I did.
The one and only drawback of this story is that Cho is quite the bitch. Offset by the Harry/Cho/Other woman threesomes however. (quite a lot of those threesomes too)

Second is Blood Ties and its sequel War in our Veins by Naya Snake.

    http://www.fanfiction.net/u/339507/Naya_Snake

Vampire!Harry, something like Severitus. Some angst, lots of action, lots of OCs(okay-made ones though),quite a lot of new magical concepts. Some(maybe more than some) cliches. A fun & tense fic.

Third is The Human Condition by C.K Talons.

    http://www.fanfiction.net/u/265724/C_K_Talons

The author's summary says it all:
"He never had it easy. But now Harry Potter is faced with a new challenge;an enemy he cannot see. But before Harry can consider battling his new foe, he must first control the demons within his mind."
Somewhat H/Hr but the pairing never resolves. Also Harry/Brilliant OC.Read it.

Fourth is Broken Beyond Healing by Lady Russell Holmes

    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1150766/1/Broken_Beyond_Healing

Again the summary says it all:
"As a phoenix rises, born from death, so shall he. Killed four times over in the space of a circle, By family, life, friends, and foe. (Rated for violence, gore, child abuse, and language)."

Notice the abuse. It's kind of extreme..nothing sexual, thankfully. The fic does move on from that.. if you can move past the abuse the fic does become interesting.Very well written, though, not recommended for everyone.

Fifth is Dark Gods in the Blood by Hayseed

    http://www.fictionalley.org/authors/hayseed/DGITB00a.html

A murder-mystery,post-Hogwarts, post-Voldemort.A fast & enjoyable read.No romance (except for a brief mention in the last chapter) which is always a plus in my opinion. Also, not Harry centric.Don't let that keep you from reading it.

Sixth is the Happy Days in Hell trilogy by enahma.

    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1252201/1/Happy_Days_in_Hell
    sequels:
    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1334485/1/Coming_off_the_Ropes
    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1485544/1/Through_the_Walls

Lots and lots (and LOTS) of angst.Harry is captured by Voldemort .It's not as bad as you think - it's worse.Tortured!Harry & tortured!Snape(a plus?). Snape is Harry's uncle(his dead brother is Harry's father). Normally I hate this type of fiction, but this managed to capture and hold my interest. Try with a modigrum of salt.

Seventh (and last) is HP and the Acceptance of Fate by Arya1.
    Caution - seemingly abandoned.

    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1430023/1/Harry_Potter_and_the_Acceptance_of_Fate

450.000 words of great fanfiction. Superb characterization & plot. Harry/Hermione,but the best Hermione you'll ever read. This is what the sixth book should have been DAMNIT.
And then, out of the blue, the author abandons it.
Fucking bitch .. if I ever find her I'll rip out her clit and feed it to her, for being such a cocktease.
    Read it anyway.

Enjoy, people! And should anyone think of more old/forgotten fics DO post them..

Broken Beyond Healing is an angst-fest. It's so often recommended that I tried reading it, but I couldn't get past the first ten chapters. While it's decently written, it's like the author decided to see how many painful ways she could kill Harry in one story for the maximum amount of angst possible. I wouldn't recommend it for that reason; I really don't need to see the Dursleys kill Harry, let alone the other ways she killed him off.
