Eyes are kinda overused in fanfiction, but they don't bother me so much (not even jade- or jaded eyes, though they are the worst of the bunch). I still love Denarian Renegade, for example, though that story must've used the "widening of Harry's eyes" at least a thousand times.

It's not that big a deal.

The obsession with Harry's emerald eyes is annoying.

It used to be in my Sig. the one that annoys me most and seems to reoccur is the 'intensity of Harry's green eyes'. What does that mean?

I suspect the obsession with eyes is down to JKR making quite a big deal about them in the books, with us constantly being reminded that Voldemort had red eyes and Harry green. I do believe at one stage before DH she said we would learn the importance of the green eyes, but that never cropped up. There is also the importance of eye contact for certain spells.

Actually, it did. The importance of Harry's green eyes was that they reminded Snape of Lily.

    Yes, it's lame.

    Legillamancy anyone?

Seriously I don't see what the big deal is. I personally don't feel using the eyes to describe emotion is a bad thing. In fact if you were to ask me, I say it helps to define the character/setting in which it is taking place.

Yes, the Jade/Emerald is annoying as hell, but it like a bunch of other cliches just will always be.

    Truth. Incredibly lame.

Maybe Snape should've told him to wear sunglasses.

 = No reminders of Lily = no Snape boner

There's a problem with that one, though. See, you make Harry wear sunglasses, and you have Snape just seeing James Potter standing in front of him, you know, trying to look cool?

Something tells me Snape wouldn't much like that.

I'd rather a man hate me for looking like my father, than a man getting a boner because my eyes remind him of my mother's...

I guess Harry/Snape fics do have some justification in canon, then.

The only problem I have with 'eye expressions' in fanfics is the overuse of glares. Who the hell actually glares at someone? What does a glare look like? I've had enough of Harry glaring at Snape and Malfoy. Why doesn't he fucking do something about them and stop being a pussy and making a 'stare with a fiercely or angrily piercing look' face (definition of glare)?
