And then at the end we can have one last question:

"What House do you want to be in?"

And the answer to that overrides the rest of the test.

That's how it works in canon after all :p

    A) Gryffindor.
    B) Ravenclaw.
    C) Hufflepuff.
    D) Slytherin.

That question was even more obvious than those in the test. Way to go.

Marie, you misunderstood, or rather misread me.

I merely gave that question as an example of what shouldn't be done.

I'd be willing to make suggestions. As in,

    E) Arm candy
    F) A house-spouse, who will produce and rear at least three children and stay out of my way otherwise.

That would show personality, wouldn't it?

If you choose F, you might just be a Weasley.

    True.:D

I'm all for this, personally. As long as there's a running theme about masturbation, blow jobs, 69ing, etc.

    Edit: For example:

    Q. Your best friend's broomstick is destroyed. What do you do?

    a) Comfort him in that bossy, book-wormish way.
    b) Ignore the issue entirely, and talk about the Cannons.
    c) Ridicule him in the hallways.
    d) Give him a Blow Job.

    D = Ginny?

A, B and C are obviously Hermione, Ron and Malfoy, respectively.

why pharase the questions in such a way as the house it obvious? make all answers a blend of at least two house principles and tally the results.

You are Hexed in the hallway with a rare and tricky to remove curse, you...

    A) Hex the hell out of a passing rival house as a warning and then go to the nurse. (Gryff/Slyth/Puff)
    B) Go to the nurse, figure out who did it, make their lives hell for the next week in a way that doesn't immediately lead back to you (Slyth/Rav/Gryff)
    C) Get healed, Get together with some friends, and declare a silent war on the most likely house (Puff/Slyth/Rav)
    D) Get a friend to remove the curse, Go to a teacher, decide whether or not to take matters into your own hand based on what punishments (if any) the offender recieved. (Rav/Puff/Gryff)

If we like we could weight the answers so that for say option 'D' they'd get two tallies under Ravenclaw and one under each Griffindor and Hufflepuff

    Watcha think?

Sounds quite good actually, I've always hated how simplistic those tests are. Also, it's best not to go for extreme questions like:

You are faced with the Dark Lord Voldemort without any support; what do you do?

    A) Put up an anti-disapparition ward and guard the exit(s) with your most powerful defensive spells, hoping to stop him from leaving the area. (Gryff/Rav)

    B) Engage him in conversation to buy time for reinforcements to arrive. (Rav/Slyth)

    C) Send a slue of your most powerful curses before he can prepare himself, hoping to take him out quickly. (Slyth/Gryff)

    D) Use the area to your benefit by transfiguring anything you can into useful tools/animals. Use them as your pawns in trying to keep him at a safe distance. (Rav/Puff)

Though I suddenly feel quite proud of my question, >_>, things like that don't happen to normal people... Just Harry, so they can't really be used to judge others. Would you be surprised to know that the Ravenclaw/Hufflepuff question was the hardest one to think up? :p

You forgot the most obvious answer: flee.

Would that be Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, though?

Although fleeing seems good on the spot, there is no escape. The Dark Lord always knows.

Hey, I certainly didn't expect this much to come from it.

I was thinking of something along the lines of Manatheron's idea. A good example of which is News.com's Vote-a-matic (for the Australian federal election).

What they do is break down each party's policy into a series of values, then ask questions based on those values which can add on to more than one party's score.

We could create something based on the same method - list each House's values and ask questions based on those values, then tally it up at the end.

    What do you think?

Yeah, and has Malfoy and his pimp cane blocking the exit.

Edit: Yeah, a system like Helius's or Manatheron's would be the best. The hardest thing to do would be to make the questions vague enough so as not to make it obvious.

    {Shrugs}

We should have enough brain power to do so with all the regulars here...

    {Sniffs the air}

Does anyone else smell burning batteries? :p

On a sidenote though, are we going to try talking one of our members into coding this while we make up the questions? Is it going to be a static test that gets taken and we have someone physically tally the answers? Or is this going to be another of those threads where we lose intrest and let it die (again) without really doing anything?

I can't believe I allowed this to die. Anyway, here's another potential question:

You're on route to Hogwarts and discover an assignment you forgot about. What do you do?

    a) Hurriedly write down anything you can think of, thinking that the consequences of a failed essay are worse than one that wasn't even handed in. You don't want to lose house points, after all.
    b) Copy off one of your friends.
    c) Steal someone else's and pass it off as your own.
    d) What? Me forget an assignment? You must be joking.
    e) 69 with your best friend's "attractive" younger sister.

Obligatory Ginslut question added for lulz.

Well, it's a toss-up between B and C. Did my friends remember the essay?

If they did and they won't help a friend in a time of need, are they worth calling friend? In which case I steal it from them.

I was a master plagiarist back in my day. Give me an essay and I'll paraphrase the whole damn thing in half an hour, tops.

Then I can spend the rest of the train ride making out with some redhead, if I so desire.

The Sorting Hat has spoken! You've got 26 House Points!

    Head of House: Professor Flitwick
    House Colors: Blue and Bronze
    House Animal: Eagle
The imminent Ravenclaw chose her students based on pure smarts... and you have that... you are one smart puppy. Good to have in a pinch. Perhaps there are more important things than books and studying though... However, I still salute you... you make life better for all of us. Ravenclaw is known for it's intellectuals!
Some students of Ravenclaw House... Padma Patil, Terry Boot, Stewart Ackerly

I would have to say either d or b :)
