My musical tastes don't change when I read, so basically AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Velvet Revolver, Electric light orchestra, Blue Öyster Cult, Black Sabbath, Bon Jovi, Pantera, Eric Clapton (whom I shall be seeing in a few short months at Malahide castle, Woot!) and lately the Answer and Airbourne.

My music Library is not that extensive, seeing as I have only actualy bought 2 cd's in my life, and I cant always illegaly download music. Generaly though, I Listen to Guns N' Roses, Foo Fighter, and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Just what I prefer.

I don't have any particular favourites for listening while reading, except one.

When reading Denarian Knight, I always listen to 'I'm a Player' by The KGB, which is one of the catchiest songs ever, and always has me singing it at the worst possible times. Usually in class.

Teacher: Can anyone explain the metaphor of a snake? Alexandra?
Me: Watch out ladies, I'm a sex fiend, since I was sixteen, I make the chicks scream... Oh. *notices all eyes* Um...

Hrm...it'd have to be...

Loyalty - American Head Charge
House of Cards - Zeromancer
Atlantean Empire - Atrocity
One of my Kind - Rogue Traders vs INXS.
Reason - Cascada
Nemo - Nightwish

That's it really :3

Most of the stuff people have listed I either don't like or it is too loud/distracting. I used to listen to a lot of the stuff people mentioned but I eventually grew out of it. The reason I like listening to classical music when I'm reading a fanfic is because it doesn't distract me, it's great backround noise, and I can appreciate it on a deeper level being a pianist myself.

Like Beethoven's work, primarily his 9th, or Bach?

Personally, I prefer Stravinsky or Wagner.

Personally I tend to alter my soundtrack to the mood of what I'm reading, I like the background music to fit the scene, seeing as I typically have my entire library available to me while I read and a fantastic memory when it comes to music I can tailor a soundtrack to pretty much anything.
One of these days I'm going to map out recommended play lists for some of the better stuff.

Mainly Nightwish or some classical music, Beethoven or more often the Requiem by Mozart. But basically I let my list of music playing in the background and I am sometimes surprised of what's playing when I'm reading something interesting, it makes some unusual combination.
I once found myself listening to Aqua - Lollipop (don't ask how I got it I didn't know it was there) while reading some HP fanfic, it made a strange impression...

I'd expected people to say something like 'Rise of the Valkyries' for Denarian Knight :D

I usually just slap on party shuffle on iTunes, but Diary of Jane and forever by breaking benjamin are pretty cool and some coldplay or Alien ant farm too.

I like Beethoven and Bach, but I'm much more a fan of Chopin, Liszt, and Brahms.

I just stick my playlist on shuffle which includes albums by various bands such as Fuel, Breaking Benjamin, Evans Blue, 3 Doors Down, Foo Fighters, Alter Bridge, Default and various others of this genre type.

PS: Next To Nothing, Natural Life, Follow, Firefly, Diary of Jane (Both Versions), and Polyamorous are Breaking Benjamin's best songs.

Oh! I forgot when I posted earlier.. I went to see Breaking Benjamin live before We Are Not Alone came out. One of the most epic and awesome bands I've ever seen live.

If you haven't already, go see them.

Agreed on Comfortably Numb. Gilmour's one of the best out there.
If you haven't heard 'High Hopes' and 'Mother', you should definitely listen to them. And the song 'Bike' is always good for a laugh.

Varies, but I'll set my IPOD to repeat Dragonforce Through the Fire and Flames most days, though I listen to others.

... Am I the only one that doesn't listen to music while reading?

Anyway, when I do turn on the music, it's usually Dragonforce, Sum41, Nickelback or Green Day. And Nightwish. Can't forget Nightwish...:p
