    My favourite Darwin story has to be the guy who went bungee jumping with builders rope and lost his foot. Dumb fuck.

    I thought that bungee jumping with a steel rope was only a joke about human stupidity, not an actual situation...

    My favourite is the one about a bunch of drunken guys jumping onto land anti tank mine in the bar...

    My favorite is a local one.

    On Hwy 5, there used to be a bank with a Dunkin' Donuts to one side of it. (It's a barbeque joint now.) Predictably, the Dunkin' Donuts where all the cops around hang out. Anyway, around fifteen years ago, this guy tries to rob the bank, but the teller refused to give him anything. He turns the wrong way on Hwy 5 and runs straight into the cops' waiting arms. To top it all off, I kid you not, the guy's name was "Jesse James."

    That's not a proper Darwin Award though. Darwin Awards are for people who remove themselves from the gene pool in creative and idiotic manners. Like guys who get their nuts chopped off during a practical joke and people who drown in their kitchen sinks.

    Perhaps it's just an idiotic criminal, then. Like the woman in Texas a few years back that was driving drunk and ran into a pedestrian. He was partially through her windshield... she drove home, parked the car in the garage and left it there. It took the poor guy three days to die, during which the woman repeatedly came and apologized. To top it all off, she was a nurse...

    I absolutely refuse to believe this. How can anyone be that stupid?
    If I ever got the Darwin award, I'd want it to be the one with the barrel full of tools and the pulley;)

    It was actually on the six o'clock news for several days running. They showed her being arrested and everything.

    Bratling, do you have a link or something? I'd really like to read the full story.
    Anyone remember the guy who used a match to check if a petrol cannister was full or not? :D

    EDIT 2: Wow. Stupidity doesn't even begin to describe that woman. How can she possibly say she just panicked?

    Edit2: Yeah. I read on some forum or another that she got fifty years for it. Deserved, I think. People that stupid shouldn't be allowed to breed. Jail will take care of that. I'm kinda surprised that they allowed her to live; Texas is a death penalty state and they like it that way. For the most part, you kill somebody there and they'll kill you back.
