Like I've always said, it depends on what I'm reading. Generally I'll listen to a bit of anime music for less action-oriented songs, classical stuff (I like Mozart's Fantasia in D-Minor a lot) for the introspective type fics, etc. Of course once I start reading stuff like Joe's fics (which demand a huge playlist just because of their size) and DK I'll stick on some Iron Maiden or Led Zeppelin. Makes for a good background to the fight scenes and has a pretty good selection to fit the chapter by chapter mood.

I don't specfically find music to listen to if reading fanfiction.

If there happens to be music in the background, then it just happens to be there.

Homework, on the other hand, requires sing-a-long-able music to get through.

    Rock on good bruva!
'The trooper' is a great song for action, and Zeppelin are so diverse they have songs for any type of fic. 'Bron-Yr-Aur' has always reminded me of Luna for some reason...[/quote]

The Trooper is one of my favourite songs by Maiden, along with When Two Worlds Collide and Montségur, which all make for great action songs.

You've got a point on Bron-Yr-Aur, but when I think of Luna I always have Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride going through my head >_>. Nifty song though, it was the only song I listened to on a holiday through Europe when I was 14/15.

Recently I've been listening to more and more Bob Marley, though I haven't attributed it to a specific genre, just more general background music. Must have been I Am Legend with them damn Three Little Birds.

Mostly trance, since it's the only thing long enough that I'm not always tempted to tab back to winamp.

My taste in music changes drastically with my mood. When I am calm and bored, or when drunk I've found that really long trance mix tracks help me read. Later into the night I fire up some classical, Rachmaninoff's complete symphonic works work wonders here. Finally when I am more annoyed I find that a mix of modern and classic rock fills the background well. Finally, on rare occasions I will even read while listening to J-Pop, though for the most part it is far too grading when trying to focus on English text.

That is one funky song. Speaking of Steppenwolf, 'Screaming night Hog' and 'Born to be Wild' have always reminded me of Sirius.

I don't listen to any one song when reading a fic, as to me I prefer not knowing what song is coming up.

Dark Belra, is 2:20am not past your bedtime?;)
Lately I've been listening to a lot of motorhead and wishbone ash. The two bands go together surprisingly well.

2:20 am is nothing, now 3:00 is a much more likely time for me to sleep.

Staying on topic, I have been listening to 3 doors down lately.

3:00? That's weak. Try 6:00, and then up at 7:30 for work. One of these days I'm gonna die.

There's a great Irish band called The Answer that I listen to when I read. Crash test dummies are good as well.

I don't tend to care that much, as I just randomly click a track in iTunes and let the rest play out.

In writing, however, I have much stricter requests. I have found Dies Irae from Mozart's Requiem works wonders for action scenes. Sadly since it is rather short, I select it and press repeat track. Beethoven's Ode to Joy works good when I write political scenes. O, Fortuna works for battle music as well from time to time, but I still prefer Dies Irae.

When reading, it is mostly just reading that I am focused on, with music being relegated to background status. However, it must be something I enjoy. So before I start reading, I just pick a random album from my iTunes library, and just start it, whatever I happen to feel like listening to at the time. Most recently Melechesh's "Emissaries" album.

The Blizzards kick ass, Ash and Delorentos are pretty good too but Muse are one of the best for fanfiction.
