You said magic as a whole was conscious, not that wands or what not are. Though let me ask you, if wands are conscious, what are they conscious of?

If we didn't, then there wouldn't be a point to social sciences.

if that is the case, why bother having separate spells at all or learning them? Any wizard should be able to get anything he wanted just by waving his wand. The fact that it takes a certain set of actions to produce a determinate reaction shows that magic is lawlike.

I actually think Taure is right now that I think about it and remember all the spells ever casted in cannon. Yes there incantations and stuff for spells but there is also the magic that is released by an incantation that adapts to the users mind and thought process.

    Pure guesswork.

Because there seem to be limits. For example, I doubt you could get a water spell to spout fire, despite any intent.

There is an argument that sufficiently skilled wizards can do this, but that's another thread.

Law-like, yet flexible in those laws. To steal a PotC quote, they're more like guidelines. Or a more common cliche: rules are made to be broken.

Not quite Taure, say the for sake of Arguement France nukes Hogwarts during the school year... Hogwarts is destroyed... Dumbledore dies, yay... but more importantly, more importantly the next generation of Wizards and witches is killed.
Purebloods by nature believe themselves superior they seem to disbelive the fact a muggle could win, for this nerve gas would work, something like Sarin would exterminate all Diagon Alley or even Mustard Gas, Wizards wouldn't know it.
Now the apparation plus assassination works for the wizards.

This would only matter if the war were to span a whole generation.

Also, it wouldn't wipe out a full generation, just a 7 year section of it.

Okay I concede that, but seven year section of a generation is still some pretty serious damage to such a small population, besides the weasley's how many wizards do we have proof of having multiple siblings in Harry's generation, muggles fuck like rabbits.

Okay you keep saying Wizards wouldn't know of it. We have no idea exactly how much muggle studies classes teach you know. It goes all the way to seventh year newts for a reason and I'm pretty sure they cover things like guns/nukes/gas etc.

It is stated that Muggle Studies is considered a Soft subject, the thing is purebloods, i.e. the Ministry probably doesn't know what a nuke is, gas weaponry maybe, the Germans liked using it after all.

Think it may have been Rowling's interviews, but it may have been in second or third year.

Going back to Nukes for a minute, would there even be time to raise a shield capable to stop a Nuke? They, as far as stated in canon, have no way to detect something like that.

Okay where the heck does it state these things?I really don't remember anywhere where it says it. As for the muggle class, if it WAS stated in either second or third year that would mean she/he was talking about that time. Especially if it was Hermione. JKR never writes about it again after third year so we still have no idea what they teach in 6+7th year.
So for all we know they do teach about nukes.

I don't think it was Hermione talking about the subject.
How would Wizards explain a Nuke?
But you do have a point, we don't know whether they do or do not, damn you JK Rowling.

That is irrelevant since JKR has said that magic is in no way applicable to the laws of nature. It just it.

The magic in Rowling's World wins hands down

Thing with a nuke or gas is that the wizards won't know when it's coming. It's not like some muggle is going to go into Diagon Alley and say "Look fellas, around 3:30 we are going to drop a nuke, so have your wands drawn and quickly cast the necessary spells to stop fire, explosion, radiation, etc."

If a nuke or gas was used the wizards wouldn't be able to defend against cause they aren't ready for it. By the time they even realized that they were being poisoned by nerve gas they wouldn't be able to use their wands. Don't make the assumption that all wizards can draw their wand like Dumbledore can.

Now, it is unlikely that a nuke would ever be used, especially within a place like London. But I think it would happen if say, the muggles were losing and resorted to desperate actions.

As for apparation and using to to kill the president, king, prime minister, etc. I thought that in order to apparate you have to have a clear visual of the place you are apparating to. I doubt the average wizard is going to know what the Oval Office looks like......however, I have no idea if looking at a picture would help.

Well, I am off to work.

    It just Is?
Hmm, Thats just it though Wizards are dependant on wands. Muggles have numbers, sadly the wizards loose, Magic is a form of energy, I believe that is applicable to the laws of nature, remember conservation laws from High School, no getting around them, besides magic in HP has limits. Voldemort and Harry survive, if the prophecy is real.

Numbers mean nothing. One wizard of Dumbledore's caliber could take an entire country - maybe even the world.

Says who? I most strongly disagree to this point.

    I don't.

Even within Muggle science there are ways of getting around them. Look up Quantum foam on Wikipedia. Or, more obviously, think of the Big Bang theory.

And again, this assumes all of the above things that I disagree with.

Prophesy has no power to protect. It has no power of it's own: it's simply a prediction of what will happen, not a power that makes it happen.

Alright Taure, one thing Dumbledore take a country, much less the fucking world, please share with me what your on, I need some.
Now on the other things, I'll won't disagree, on the matter of conservation I was talking mass cannot be created or destroyed, and energy cannot be created or destroyed.

If a powerful enough spell can break a shield it makes sense that enough energy could do.

Imagine 50 people with AK's firing at someone with a shield. Game over.

A defected wizard would spell the end of the war since they could pin point the ministry etc. to get carpet bombed ^_^

I was afraid to bring defectors into this, but he's right one defector, and the apparition does have its downside as well.

Not really. If you're able to take a country, then you can use the same methods on every other country.

    On the topic of defectors:

If you say that the Muggles win because they have a wizard on their side, then that is effectively saying that they won through magic, which is conceding the debate. By introducing defectors, you're making it a wizard vs. wizard war, not a Muggle vs. Wizard war.
