This one looks likes a blockbuster, loads of reviews, quick update rate, but is pointless. Harry's the only male student of Beauxbatons, and all of its students are sworn to secrecy as to his identity when they arrive at Hogwarts for the Triwizard Tournament.

One of those "Hogwartsy", Dumbledore+Snape-gets-walked-over stories.

 

Yeah I was disapointed by that story.

 

An image popped up in my mind of the GoF movie when they're doing the Happy Shiney Sighing dance into the Great Hall. Does Harry wear the blue skirt and beret as well? :banana:

Is it just me or does everyone think the same but in most Harry/Fluer fic, the story concentrates on the romance aspect of the story and death and destruction is secondary.

 

That's how the 'majority' of fanfic is period. Unless it is almost totally general you will rarely see something with a Harry/(Anyone) that has much to do with anything else.

There are exceptions of course, but pull up any random story on FF.net and you'll see what I mean.

I can see Jbern being a shining example of how to write a story where the relationship is secondary with "Lie"

I'm trying to carry the torch with my own but there will be a a good amount of "shipping" in there too.

Another thing I've seen is the amount of sex there is in H/F stories. Or maybe it's just my luck to always find the porno story in the lot.

For what it's worth, I've got a nearly complete WIP that is H/F and is fairly action heavy with very little fluff. It's at about 55k words with all but the last 5k fairly polished. I've plotted it to the end and it needs another 8k or so words to complete.

I had not planned to start posting until it's complete, but I could share an early peek with a few intrepid souls if anyone were interested. I'd be especially interested in hearing the opinions of the hardcore H/F fans (Methene?), in particular to answer whether it's "patronuscharm-worthy" or whether it should just be buried in ff.net oblivion.

Could be interesting to read, but to say that it would go into the oblivion of ff.net is a bit much as most of those are not even checked over for problems, So by just getting it checked over would be putting it above 50% of the fics over there.

 

You my good man have made my evening. I am always willing to sit down and discuss stories with anyone. Especially if it contains my favourite pairing.

However you wish me to see it let me know and I will give you my comments and suggestions on it.

Glad to see another H/F author picking up the torch.

 

I have no idea why, but it seems that every fic that has Harry go to any other magical school other than Hogwarts seem destined to fail.

I have thus far, after about 7 years of reading HP fanfics, only found two such stories that I can tolerate. Both have Harry going to Beauxbatons, one of which is a parallel of OOTP that I read years ago. The other is "We, In Faith", which is decently written, contains a Harry who is very driven to win the Triwizard Tournament, but contains a truckload of OCs.

It is sad that I have not found even one decent fic which have Harry being schooled in Durmstrang, but I digress.

The reason why some may think that most H/F fics concentrate too much on romance is simply the short supply of fics containing the pairing. It is the same with every other pairing, from H/G to H/Hr, except that there are way more fics with these pairings, which also necessarily means that there will be more action-heavy ones among them.

 

I think the reason most Harry/Fleur fics are centered on romance is that the author is purposely writing a Harry/Fleur fic.

Most fics that don't intentionally focus on a specific pairing tend to end up either H/Hr or H/G if they have any pairing at all.

Lucullus, what was the name of the other fic where Harry went to Beauxbatons?

 

If you send me a copy of that sneak-peek I'd love to give you some perspective on it.

Lucullus, do you have links to the first story you mentioned?

 

Or it could be that I stink at writing romance, so I keep it as only a secondary plot, but I am trying to get better at it.

Vanishing Illusions was a good "Harry Goes to Durmstrang" fic, IMO.

Oh please, Jim. Even if you don't write romance, your work is such that we won't notice or care. And it'll give a decent change of pace to all the lovey-dovey POS' out there. Give me war, chaos and death!

*Ponders* Fleur dying and Harry ripping open the Gates of Hades to retrieve her...too sappy.

In Vanishing Illusions, the author conveniently skipped Harry's Durmstrang years. Thus, I don't consider it a Harry-goes-to-Durmstrang fic.

Would be amusing if she was raised as an Inferi, turned into a magical bomb and sent to the Burrow. She sleeps with Bill, he goes, "I'm gonna blow!". And Fleur blows!
