That is the reason I didn't bring defectors in, hell you don't need a wizard, beat the information out of the wizard to get the locale out of 'em.
Still disagree with Dumbledore, one tactic doesn't work on everybody man.

Pretty much every country has a leadership. Using the Imperious on said leadership would work well pretty much everywhere.

Imperious has noticeable effects, or so I'm told, besides people would notice, not everyone is as stupid as the English Ministry.

    Noticeable effects to whom?

    Magical people.

Muggles, who do not know of the Imperious curse, would not have a clue.

Could the muggles win if we got rid of Dumbledore, Voldemort and Harry? Now that we have the Gods gone, we put both sides on a battlefield, give them their weapons, who would win? I would have to say the muggles, until the wizards get smart and take their weapons. But then wizards still need to aim perfectly to get every single person.

So I would have to say that it would be a tie for the most part, as you can't find wizards and killing every single muggle as well.

Okay maybe so behaviour though would attract attention, besides Canon Harry Potter Magic has clear limits, we also know only what Rowling showed, thus limits as to what they can do.

The way Darius posted, it looked more like the defector was only giving out information. In this case, the Muggles are not fighting with magic; they just have more information to work with.

She also showed that the limits were false myths rather than actual limits.

For example: the "limit" of magic that unaided flight is impossible (QttA) was broken by Voldemort developing the flying charm.

The limit that you cannot bring back the dead is broken by the resurrection stone, and partially by Horcruxes.

For every limit JKR has set, there are things that break that limit. It's just a matter of knowing how.

Yeah okay disregarding my Hate for DH for a moment, most wizards can't do that.

Yeah, to be fair, the examples you give are people who have enormous magical power, or rather a lot of ability. Most people we see in canon are people who don't have the ability and some don't try because of wizards saying that there are limits.

Just thought I'd drop in and say I love this topic. It saves me so much time debating myself on the way's Muggles and Wizards can kill each other... it's for the story, not cause I'm a death freak or anything ... really ... sigh.

PS. I'm working on it Helltanz, but a girl's gota have a break!

I could go point by point and contest the omnipotent powers of wizards and witches, but I'd rather ask more basic questions.

If the wizards and witches are so damn powerful and could kick muggle ass without a second thought, then why haven't they? And why was there a need to hide from the muggle world in the first place?

Because the average person - wizard or Muggle - is not a genocidal maniac that dreams of world domination. It's called having morals. Those wizards that did desire to conquer the Muggles (Grindelwald, for example) were stopped by the other wizards. For a Voldemort-era example, the Prime Minister was given a wizard guard.

It's reasonably clear that the wizards wanted to be free from Muggle interference from Hagrids comments in PS. Now, as I see it this can be achieved in two ways: a) kill all the Muggles b) make it so the Muggles can't find you.

Of the two, most civilised people and societies would choose B, especially as it required much less effort than A.

I guess that makes a bit of sense, but what if we had one or two wizards on the muggle side of the battlefield, would wizards still win?

It depends entirely on the skill of those one or two wizards. If they're like PS Neville, then I'd say that it wouldn't make much difference. If they're Dumbledores, then I'd say the Muggles are going to win, easy. Though one has to question if it's really the Muggles winning, or the Dumbledores.

The idea of wizards having the power to subjugate muggles but not doing so because they have the moral strength not to do so is laughable. If for no other reason than there is little evidence of a moral code or religion within the wizarding world.

Wizards don't give a damn about muggles. The only reason why Arthur Weasley's office existed is because the misuse of muggle artifacts threatened the secrecy that was necessary to preserve the wizarding world's existence.

Yeah, they wanted to be free from muggle interference because muggles had the annoying tendency of killing them. And again we have this idea of a beneficent, almost angelic civilized magical civilization. Scant evidence of that sort of positive, morally uplifting behavior in canon.

Okay, Cut the bullshit. This is a Muggles verse Wizards thread. Not a muggle/wizard verse Wizard thread. Go create another thread if you wanna discuss that Belra.

My choice still stands. Wizards have so much they can use besides there powers. Dragons/Dementors/vampires/Werewolves/Banshees etc.

Okay, I will but if your saying that I should keep this muggle vs wizard, can't the same be said about using Dragons/Dementors/vampires/Werewolves/Banshees

Wrong. POA states very clearly, on it's very first page in fact, that Muggles rarely managed to catch a wizard, and when they did, they were ineffective in killing them.

Your finding it laughable is not enough. You have to actually make an argument. Saying that there's no evidence of a moral or religious code is not an argument. Firstly, the point is debatable. There appears to be a highly complex ethics system regarding the use of magic (Dark magic). Secondly, even if there wasn't evidence of it would not mean that it isn't there. Thirdly, wizards are simply Muggles who possess magic. Assuming for some reason that all wizards are heartless because they have magic is groundless.

This is purely your opinion. I think that canon indicates the opposite: the fact that discriminating against Muggleborns is as taboo as racism is today is indicative. Yes, there are those who, like the KKK, try to force their racist views on the population (the minority political Pureblood movement), but the general populous are supportive of Muggles.

Not analogous. Saying that wizards cannot use Dementors etc. would be equivalent to saying that the Muggles cannot use sniffer dogs and the like, not equivalent to saying that the Muggles cannot use wizards.
