Zetsu's thoughts: The terrible flame has consumed the other flame completely! By looking at the object (the user) wishes to burn, the black flames will start burning from this visual point. Objects caught by the black flames will burn to nothingness. Even if the object is fire itself!

Amaterasu has hit on Sasuke's wing/s.
Sasuke: guaaaa
Zetsu's thoughts: It's indeed Itachi's victory! If Amaterasu cannot be stopped, his eyes will be taken.
Itachi was about to touch Sasuke, who had fallen down, but Sasuke's body melted and took on the form of a python (laughs).
Sasuke: I've been waiting for this moment!
Sasuke is in CS2 mode!


2nd bit

As Itachi was repressing (the pain of) his eyes, he threw up blood!
Sasuke: Fire technique - the great fire dragon!
The fire in the shape of the dragon hit Itachi on his right wrist!
Both of them became extremely breathless.
Zetsu: Both of them are panting. Have their chakra been used up?
Sasuke's cursed seal disappeared.
Sasuke: This is my final jutsu.
Itachi: Sharingan can see chakra. Don't fake it, I can tell that your chakra is finished.


3rd bit

Itachi: You've evaded Amaterasu using an Orochimaru style Kawarimi no Jutsu (Substitution jutsu). It's a good technique that doesn't give the user away, but on the other hand, it consumes a lot of chakra.
Zetsu: I see. Sasuke had absorbed Orochimaru's powers, hence that's how it works.
Sasuke: It's true that my chakra is out. I've finished using it in the katon earlier...but do you think I've come unprepared to kill you? It's the same. It's the same with Amaterasu...it's unavoidable (rephrased). Now, I will fulfil your wish. (I will show you) your death....

Sasuke has finally beaten Itachi?! Next chapter: The last trump card!

Okay... here's my take on the sitch.

1. Sasuke took his cloak off after the initial genjutsu exchange.
2. Sasuke has also transformed himself into a monsterous form (both wings are now gone and he's got snakes coming out of his back while in CS2)
3. Sasuke has just declared that his secret uber powerful final trump card jutsu is coming.
4. Sasuke has admitted he's out of Chakra after this.

Conversely
1. Itachi has yet to take his cloak off (a Union pre-requisite for an Akatsuki member dying in Naruto part II apparently.
2. Itachi has not revealed ANY new jutsus at all... and every other Akatsuki member has shown at least 1 major new or uber jutsu.
3. Itachi still has about half his chakra left (In this battle, he's used a couple genjutsu, a couple crow clones, 1 Tsukoyomi, 1 Amaterasu, and a single Kanton great fireball. While in part I, he was able to use 2 Tsukoyomis, an Amaterasu, and still have plenty of Chakra left according to Kisame.
4. Itachi is still standing around like nothing has affected him significantly.
5. The end of Chapter ends with this statement "Sasuke has finally beaten Itachi?!"... and those end of chapter statements that claim something absurd like that ALWAYS are answered "no"

As such... Next chapter...IMO...If Sasuke can't finish Itachi with one blow... Itachi is going to stomp Sasuke once more.

 

if Sasuke has no more chakra, then he can't use a jutsu. unless he's copied Tsunade, and has been storing up chakra somewhere.

man, i was so hoping Itachi was gonna dominate this match...is it me or does it seem like the Akatsuki are naught but powered-up Academy Students? i mean, i haven't seen them show exactly why they are S-Class. The ones that died, with the exception of Deidara, died from basic ninja mistakes.

i hope Itachi shows why he's a S-Class...

Here comes your little brother, fresh from 2.5 years with Orochimaru learning his jutsus and thinking he's gonna kick your ass. He just fought Diedara and nearly died... but won. (Remember that Itachi fought diedara and kicked his ass without even raising a sweat)

So, you decide to let little bro have a pop at you.

How are you going to fight him? Are you going to break out your kick ass jutsus and kill him on the spot... when his eyes aren't ready for harvesting yet (no MS), or are you going to hold back and gradually increase the pressure so that you don't hurt him too much.

Remember, Itachi sees Sasuke as his eye doner. Do you think he'd go all out on him if so?

No, Sasuke's out of gas, and will have shot his last arrow at the start of next chapter... then Itachi ... who still has chakra left... will either be dead... or he'll whip Sasuke's ass... telling him that he was holding back the whole time and that the only way he can really beat him is to get the MS.

Itachi has to pressure Sasuke to get it. The only way he can is with beating him.

 

Well, I'd be rather surprised if that were the case. Kishimoto has demonstrated a Rowling-level ability to fuck up a good story. That said, he might write something good accidentally.

Also, you all suck at Yoda-speak. The proper phrase would be either: "Strong, the will of fire is in you, young one." Or: "Strong in you, the will of fire is, young one." Probably the second one.

EDIT: i'd sneer at him and tell him: "Run back to Mama, young fool! You're a couple years to early to challenge me!"

i understand that. hell, i do it all the time to my younger brothers. but it does not require me getting as much as I'm giving. so even if he is holding back, that does not mean Itachi should be getting his ass handed to him on a silver platter.

I don't see how he's gradually increasing the pressure if Sasuke continually and successfully counters his every move. You can say Itachi may be bloating Sasuke's hopes only to crushing them in the last second by revealing that the entire battle was one massive genjutsu.

The only way for Itachi to increase the pressure, IMO, is to let Sasuke attack him, and ruthlessly counter attack each move. that creates pressure on Sasuke's part since his moves are not working, which then leads to desperation for something that can help him. and that desperation leads to unlocking the MS.

 

Maybe Itachi will let him live again and say to him "Come back to me when you have obtained the MS." Then the next portion of the manga is Sasuke hunting down Naruto so he can kill him and try to obtain the MS (despite the fact he doesn't consider him a friend, he may think "Well, he WAS my friend so that should still count."

I meant Kakashi, and you're probably right on that one.

EDIT: My take on this is that it won't be Sasuke and Itachi's final fight. Itachi will leave Sasuke alive after winning. Sasuke will get the MS and then fight Itachi again. He'll kill him and get the Eternal MS.

...Seems pretty obvious now...

 

If Sasuke can not kill Itachi with this last move, which I believe will happen (due to the way Sasuke's previous fights have unfolded), then neither will be in a position to kill the other... unless Itachi knows a killing jutsu that doesn't require chakra.

I think I know what Sasuke plans to do. I could be entirely wrong, but I think he will do what Orochimaru attempted to do to him. Draw him into that freaky snake world, but instead of trying to possess him, he will kill him instead. That's the only thing I can think of him doing, but it might require chakra... does it?

 

he can't kill Itachi yet. we haven't seen the Itachi flashback that explains his reasons for being pyschotic.

EDIT: a jutsu that requires no chakra, you say? Kunai mets Head no Jutsu!

a buddy of mine said that the Great Dragon Jutsu may be a two part technique since the dragon went into the clouds and has yet to be seen...but i highly doubt that.

I thought the target needed to be branded with a Cursed Seal in order to be brought to the snake world...

question on the time-space jutsu (snake world): For every person Orochi ever absorbed, their soul is stuck in the dimension he created. Because they are stuck there, Orochi could theoretically use their abilities. Now that Sasuke has absorbed Orochi, and controls the dimension, does that mean Sasuke has all those souls' abilities?

 

Well, if all else fails and Itachi still beats him, he's still got career prospects as a magician .

Opinion poll:

When the M. Sharengan awakens, is it an action that causes the evolution or a frame of mind/state of soul kind of thing?

 

Killing your best friend is more of an action...while deciding to do it is a state of mind...so I'm gonna go with action.

 

I think the suggestion here is that the evolution is caused by the state of mind after one kills one's closest friend. Given the undoubtedly complex set of emotions after such an action, it's unlikely that another method could create them, but it's entirely possible. With enough patience and willpower, it might even be possible to do it by means of self-created emotions.

I'm still waiting for Obito to pop up with his MS. I mean, what was the point of Gaiden if not to reveal Kakashi's teamates so they could be reintroduced later?

As for Itachi/Sasuke – Kishi said he'll spend 2008 on Sasuke, so how's he going to do that if Sasuke wins? There'd be no conflict (except for Sasuke's lack of purpose, though that's no conflict you'd find in a lengthy shounen). Itachi has to win. Sasuke'll get away though, as he always does.

 

You know, besides Itachi's speeches, there is no other known method for obtaining the M. Sharingan. Every other person that gained the M.S (that we know of, anyway) didn't kill their best friend to attain it.

but I do agree it's more a "state of mind" evolution than "action/reaction" evolution.

hmmm, question: The Sharingan can copy jutsus, but not bloodline dependent jutsu. Can it copy jutsus dependent on it's own bloodline, say the Tsukuyomi or the Amaterasu, even though they require the M.S.? could forcing the usage of those jutsus cause the formation of the M.S.?

 

While most stories would definitely use Gaiden to reintroduce his teammates later, this is a bit different. The way I see it, Kishimoto made the Kakashi Gaiden to do two things:

1) Explain some of Kakashi's oddities (his chronic tardiness, for example).
2) Give him time to design adult versions of the younger members of the Naruto cast.
