Slightly off topic, has anyone heard of an HP/Chronicles of Riddick Xover?

    This entire thread is off-topic.

Anyway, to steer it (slightly) back to Doctor Who:

Why does that read like a Catholic priest ushering a young boy into his chambers?

    "Will you walk into my parlor?" said the spider to the fly;
"'Tis the prettiest little parlor that ever you may spy.
The way into my parlor is up a winding stair,
And I have many curious things to show when you are there."

I've never thought of the Doctor as a rock spider until now. NAMBLA-Doctor for the Fail. :p

    Certainly.
...and according to the summaries, every one involves Harry in a slash pairing. I haven't read them, partially because I don't do slash but also because I've never watched any of the Riddick stuff.

    Kiddie-Fiddler!Doctor?:p

Eh, I can't write serious fics. I work within the realm of humour.

OK, I've reached the point where I don't even bother opening stories with Harem!Harry. A FEW Harry-with-more-than-one-lover at a time actually managed to have a story to go with the smut, but harem!Harry ALWAYS ends up being about a superstud-and-his-minions.

If only those that had storys were better.
Some of them have good storys but most just seem to be a fuckfest for Harry who 'doesn't' want to have a free fuck every day. They always have to use the inheritence way which annoys me to no end.

Or stupid things like Sirius' will, "Playing House", One Thousand and One Arabian Nights, Malfoy potion tampering...

How does he come up with that stuff, I mean does he look at girls around and think 'I would love to bang them all at once' and then he just writes it down, conveniently changing the names of the actual people.

I'd try to ask him, but any flaming would be buried under a mountain of positive reviews.

Ah, yes. I'd forgotten about that one because it's only three chapters and hasn't updated since the Nixon administration.

Disclaimer: I may have employed some small amount of hyperbole in the statement above.

Ouch. And here I thought he was one of the authors that could get away with writing harem stuff without the scorn, since he usually plays it for laughs rather than being serious about it (and probably because he doesn't do lemons).

I don't mind the harem stuff as long as the story isn't ridiculous.*
But how often does that happen?

*(Ridiculous as in crap, not as in funny. Shit, I could use a good laugh.)

I wonder how old his fans are? Don't get me wrong, sometimes he makes a good story, but when he really gets to the harem parts he goes overboard.

Doctor, did you just change your avatar again?

I don't know, but the Doc is right, he does have a ton of fangirls.

How often do you change your avatar because in two pages, about two minutes apart, you changed it twice.

    @Doc:
    I recognize that Avatar!

As for Rorsharcht's Blot - I like a lot of his stories. Most of it's truly funny. I have gotten bored with the harems, though.

His work is funny. He writes way too much harems though. I wonder if he's going to write a non-harem story at any point.

I'm gonna have to defend Rorschach here. A little bit. I don't like his fics as a general rule. They often use neat ideas but collapse on sustained execution. Characters and plot both tend to fail on his multi-chapter fics. They feel very contrived. But the one Rorschach fic I DO read regularly, is pretty damn good.

His 'Odd Ideas' series which is really just a lot of unrelated short one-shots is very good. I find the harem relationships which often crop up there to be pretty funny. Yes, they're obviously contrived situations just to bring about a harem ending, but in the context of a short oneshot, which will always be under-developed anyway, the lack of supporting story telling and dearth of characterisation is easily ignored.

They aren't high quality, but they can be quite fun.

And he does come up with some interesting and intriguing plot setups. 'Odd Ideas' is much more satisfying than reading yet another amazingly off-the-wall fic idea in FanficDiscussion that never gets written. That's not a dig at this thread, just an observation of this and every other Fic Ideas forum I've ever come across.

So yeah, Rorschach fails on lots of things, but bad harems are just a symptom of other problems in his writing. If he removed the harem relationships would it make his longer fics worth reading? Hell, no. But his problems are minimised in short-fics and I definitely enjoy reading them, harems and all, for light entertainment. There's nothing serious in them, just wank, popcorn, and neat ideas.

btw. I don't know anything about Rorschach's fanbase except what's been written in this thread. But if I was a fanfic author who had to choose between an audience of squealing fangirls and squealing fanboys... I'd take the fanboys. 'Cos you know the rest are just traps.

    Yak.

His odd ideas series is very good. I loved the 'for the fudge' one, that one was very good. But he has the weirdest long stories that seem repetitive at times.
