That's the Power He Knew Not; doesn't matter how evil/powerful you are when you're choking on a ten-foot donger.

Perhaps we should call it...the Penis He Knew Not?

The Power he Knows not was a means to an end so the crappy book-line could end without Harry having to dirty his name by killing.

    Bull. Shit.

JKR wanted to portray that killing is never the answer, or more precisely, you never killing is the answer.

What she failed to put in is if you have a hundred people about to kill you...killing is generally encouraged.

Just grab a huge ass iron spike and impale Voldemort. Thus, the power he knows not is an intact rectum.

    On to the serious side.

The Power he Knows Not was directly left open to interpretation, to a degree.

It was NOT Harry's knowledge, combat skills or anything else.

It was the fact Fate got stoned and decided to fuck with mortals. THAT is the power the dark lord knows not.

    A stoned Fate.

Suggested starting point: Voldemort's rebirth ritual goes wrong and he's reborn in Lily's image. (S)he tries one last attempt to convert Harry by seducing him. Unfortunately for... she? it?... the ritual requires that the enemy in question remain an enemy, but given the nature of the spell, this fact was never written down. She/it succeeds, but causes the collapse of the spell and is utterly destroyed in the backlash. Bonus points if Harry decides to take her/its place.

Mary Sue is the power he knows not.

But attach a thermonuclear warhead to dobby and have him teleport to Voldemort...boom!

And it would be by his hand since it was him that procured said bomb and gave the orders.

He could always have Dobby hump Voldemort's face...:D

Combine with the afore-mentioned nutrient potions and...voila!

"Lord Voldemort dies from choking on House Elf dong!"

    As for the door...

Possibly love, but I really don't understand how they made love a physical manifestation.

Perhaps exotic energy, similair to wormhole theory which would rip Voldemort apart faster than a soggy tissue?

According to an interview (and one that isn't extraordinarily stupid), the thing behind the door is...

Amortentia. Love potion. It's locked because of how powerful the potion is, or so Rowling claims.

Still, that certainly does explain why it's called the "Love Room." They're testing love potions on people to see how well the shit actually works.

As for the "Power the Dark Lord Knows Not?"

Crumple-Horned Snorkacks. Due to vast amount of boredom and lacking safety after Harry turns 17, he goes on vacation with the Lovegoods one summer, where they encounter the Crumple-Horned Snorkack. Being a creature of massive power, Harry brings it with him when he returns to Britain. After destroying the horcruxes, Harry goes to battle Voldemort. In this last conflict, spells fly, but nothing of value comes to fruition...

Then, Harry releases the Snorkack, and with its assistance in distracting Voldemort, Harry successfully manages to slay the Dark Lord. Then, just to keep himself safe, he slays the Snorkack with a well-placed killing curse.

I prefer to think of it as a rift in time and space. Or something a bit cooler than a fucking love potion. Well, it might explain where time turners work...

Edit: Or a well of pure magic. I suppose that'd be the equivalent in the Potterverse.

I appreciate the offer, but I just couldn't let you go to all that effort.

That makes sense, considering that the second stage of the House Elf life cycle is referred to as the 'Chest Burster'.

    Think about it.

And Granger wonders why the wizards have enslaved them. Pfft!

Simple. Harry's blood is 7% felix felicis. 7, being the most powerful number in existence, combined with the already potent felix, creates a vacuum where all luck gravitates to Harry, leaving his enemies to defeat/kill themselves in embarrassing fashion. Harry doesn't need to be more skilled than the average wizard because his enemies will trip over their shoelaces and stab themselves in the neck with their own wand, stumble into their allies AK's, get their spells reflected back to them when intercepted by Harry's, sneeze right when performing a fatal curse causing the energy to explode in their faces, etc.

Basically Harry cannot lose. No matter how small the probability of these unlikely events happening, they will happen EVERY single time when Harry needs them to happen.

    <scribbling furiously> ...the-power-he-knows-not-is-an-intact-rectum. <tosses pencil>

    Excellent! Thanks Dark Lady Pryor!

Okay it was a joke. I've been known to squeeeee on occation, but never to have liked slash... male slash anyway.

My guess on the power is Nuclear. And the whole "behind the door" thing in the Ministry -- what a load of crap. I saw the thing about love potion from the interview. What a gigantic cop out. That was one of the questions from an interview after OotP came out.

"Will we see what's behind the door in the Dept. of Myst.?"

    "Yes."

Um, don't remember seeing that Jo. In fact it had nothing to do with the plot -- at all. Zip, Zero, Nada. But it sure sounded good when Dumbledore used the line to make all the readers think it was something of significace. I think it was there to throw off all the Fanfic writers into thinking Harry was actually going to get some training, hence all the Unspeakable fics that came out soon thereafter.

What a waste of a good thread.
