By now everyone knows about Rowlings bitching about the Lexicon and how the money grubbing bitch is doing her damn best to put a stop to it but I came across this article and I thought it was a little interesting

I could be interpreting this entirely wrong but to me this sounds like Rowling is saying "I win or nobody does!"

My thoughts run along the lines of Rowlings never having heard of Cliffnotes or the like. And that anytime she appears in the news anymore that she gives me the mental image of a cranked out whore who has no idea where she is, no idea what she was doing, and no idea how she got there.

 

She's just pissed that someone knows the stories better than her, and managed to wade through the shit that was the last two books to figure out what the fuck she was on about in HBP and DH.

Do I sense a little bit of jealousy from Ms. Rowling?

 

If JK decided that she didn't want fanfiction of her stuff written anymore is that something that could be enforced? Or is it something that people can do without getting in trouble?

 

Generally, it'll fall under fair use, particularly if one portrays the original source - the HP series, in this case - in a favorable light. It's - though by no means impossible - to nail someone for copyright infringement if they aren't making any money, and it's even more so when there are tens of thousands of them doing the same.

Also, someone who does that sort of thing ends up with a lot of bad publicity, which is a pretty good deterrent.

All that said, FF.net would probably take down the Harry Potter section. They're just like that.

On topic: Rowling's basically being a money-grubbing bitch, but unless she's going to attempt a Church of Scientology-level of censorship, I don't care what she does.

To be frank, I wouldn't buy the HP-Lexicon book anyways. It borders on bizarre that someone would buy a book from an author who's already put a majority of the content online. At the same time, it's pretty naive on Rowling's part to think that someone who spent so much time analyzing and outlining the world she created for everyone else wouldn't want some form of compensation for it, other than "avid praise" from the author. You can't take praise to the bank *shrug*

 

Too bad someone doesn't write her an in detail letter from the fans of the series whom SHE betrayed by turning what was originally a good series, books 1-3 were great, into pure shit. Book 4 was meh, with her not making up her mind whether Harry was a lazy pussy, or a lucky warrior, 5 was boring as piss, and 6 sucked so bad I havent fucking bothered with 7.

Sit her ass down and show her all the gaping plotholes and shit she forgot from book to book.

Thats why my new favorite series is The Dresden Files, at least butcher knows how to do it right.

But who owns Harry Potter? The copyright paragraphs in the last books indicate she only owns the canon storyline. Names and characters are copyright and trademarks of Warner brothers.

So as long as one doesn't c/p canon, she might have some difficulties to legally stop fanfiction.

I've only read through book 6 of the Dresden Series but so far it seems like what HP should have been in the latter half of the series, Rowling just couldn't make it come together.

But in Dresden Files the law enforcement wizards are actually capable, and if you're caught being dark then you're dead. "Dark Lord Potter" probably would never be caught, and if he was he'd get out of it somehow, thusly the site has been up for as long as it has been. "Dark Lord Dresden" would die quickly, so the site would be down within a day.

You're assuming that they want to sleep with him because they all LIKE him. Most of them don't. They either find it amusing to play with him, knowing he won't say yes, or see it as some form of recreation between heartlessly slaughtering kittens.

He could sleep with everything that moved and probably only end up dead for it. Unless you introduce the overdone, stupid (but still often entertaining) idea of "magical addictive semen". But I think someone would have noticed.
