    This is the reason most of us read fanfiction, isn't it? The few diamonds in the rough. I will admit though, the number of diamonds is declining though.

    @Yak

    Somethings I can live without knowing...

    As for Harry Potter: The Next Generation...

    I can already see the executives frothing at the mouth. Hopefully, the writers haven't gotten high enough to actually start writing that. I fear that it is just a matter of time though.

    Would be kinda fun to try and make a "diamonds in the rough" folder of fics we think are the 'creme of the crop'. Sure, there might be people who will submit their own work, but we could have a certain number of people required to have viewed or replied to a fic for it to qualify.

    Search for Taure's recent thread on this exact idea.

    I think the overall consensus was that while some thought the idea had merit, there were questions about the logistics of how it would/could happen. Also, it was felt to be redundant with the Library and DLP scorings of stories, which identify high-quality fics aligned with DLP community tastes.

    There's other site recognition of quality writing: DLP has a number of C2s (but I don't know how frequently they are updated). You might also check out the annual "readers' choice" awards, which highlight recent stories of quality.

    Totally, totally agree with that. My first HP fanfic was 4 years ago; a power rangers crossover. =.= Imagine that.

    I recall accumulating over 700 fics in my favs list, too. Now, it's down to less than 20.

    I'd froth at the mouth too.

    ..........

    I don't know how to respond to this beyond the initial kneejerk reaction.

    WEUer, piece of advice. Don't necro old threads or we may just blow some of the dust off our old kitchen ware....

    Especially if you lack anything significant to say.

    Especially with the apparent double post as well.

    Also, not knowing is not an excuse, you should of known. Announcements and so on are there for a reason. Read them.

    However, basic run down. Reading an old thread is fine, but don't respond to it if its over a month old, UNLESS it is in the library. Even then, only if you actually have something worth saying. A proper review, or something pertinent to say other than "LOL OMG I LUV THS 1!!!!!"
