I see...because so far it just seems as though your knowledge is sadly lacking. Anyways on the topic of Snape, he's an interesting character, but I feel as if during the last book Rowling ruined my perception of him. Snape's talented, but even with Dumbledore's help I don't think he would have been able to manipulate Voldemort so aptly. I liked him as an evil character and I would have prefered that he stay that way, but we can't always get what we want.

I need to read them again.

Being good doesn't suit Snape. I prefer him if he is evil

I think Snape is one of the more complex characters in the series, and can kind of understand why fangirls like him so much.

His character had a lot of potential and a nice, vivid past with conflict, unlike, say, Ron Weasley's character, which is rather flat.

But I do agree with you in that his character is portrayed in a very unlikeable manner. What Rowling intended was for him to be a redeemed villain of a sorts. I don't think she pulled it off very well. In the end, there were just too many things that made him easy to hate, and very few things that could elicit sympathy. He came off as pathetic rather than heroic.

Talking about Snape being likable, how many scenes are there where he can be liked?

Well, if you hate Harry, then all of them...

It all depends on your point of view...

If we are going by that, why would you read the series in the first place?

    Going by what? Disliking Harry?

There are a great many reasons to like the Harry Potter series, and the character of Harry Potter is but one of them. One which isn't necessary.

Personally, I dislike him immensely. A great deal of Snape's criticism of him is accurate.

Other reasons to read the series include: the world, the other characters, the earlier books where Harry isn't such a terrible character, the easy readability due to a very good writing style...the list goes on.

    It's DOBBY, I say!

He has Gryffindorish courage in how he defends Harry (remember pwning Malfoy when he was trying to AK Harry in CoS), Hufflepuffish loyalty (ditto), Slytherinish cunning (I mean, really, remember that levitation charm in CoS? Pure Slytherin blackmail tactics), and Ravenclawish... Ravenclawish... well, I'm sure we'll find something if we look at the series hard enough.

So: Dobby is the only one with ALL four house qualities! And that's the biggest requirement for a true hero, amirite?

Vote for Dobby, associates! Vote for Dobby!

    Assuming you meant "disagree":

To quote Severus Snape, in HBP:

"Of course, it became apparent to me very quickly that he had no extraordinary talent at all. He has fought his way out of a number of tight corners by a simple combination of sheer luck and more talented friends. He is mediocre to the last degree, though as obnoxious and self-satisfied as was his father before him."

In addition to this is the way that he's given a free ticket to do anything he likes, simple because he is one of the "good guys". He can cut people open to the point of death, he can torture people with an unforgivable curse, he can disregard all of the school rules, he can break into banks and forbidden areas...and through all of it, because he is Harry Potter, he is given nothing but a slap on the wrist.

He did nothing to deserve this special treatment. If he had earned it, then it'd be fine, but his whole life is just spent coasting on Lily Potter's success.

No. No-one likes him. Not even his own mother.
