    1) Because Sree was pestering me, and he's a persistent sort of curry-smelling fucker. :)

    2) Why am I wasting so much time writing stories about characters that I didn't invent, as well as reading, reviewing and beta-ing stories about those very same characters? Why am I wasting so much time on forums like this one?

Maybe I just like the HP fandom. Maybe I just like writing and reviewing. Maybe I hate this story, hate how she twisted and mutilated canon into a barely recognisable mixture of shapeless, spineless, transparent, unrealistic characters stagning into a mind-numbingly boring plot. Maybe I also have a sadistic streak and enjoyed writing that flame (scratch the maybe: I did enjoy it, and very much so, although reading the fic itself was tedious at best).

So in fact my answer would be: if I didn't want to waste time, I would never have registered on this forum or started writing fanfiction in the first place... Plus flaming a hugely popular fic sounds like a fun way to waste time, about as much fun as writing the British magical constitution (if not more -- hiya, Taure! :p).

As for "legitimizing a work that's best ignored"... as you said yourself, "ignored" isn't exactly the right term for a 9,400 reviews story, most of which are elogious...
One: given the amount of positive feedback she got, even I thought at first that the fic was probably worth the read. You can't dismiss a fic so hugely successful with a simple "It sucks." Two: I hate "It sucks" reviews on principle, whether the fic is popular or not. Three: ... I'm a long-winded reviewer in general.

In fact, for that reason (among others) I think I'll stop there -- someone else can do 19-23; I've got my studies, I've got all my other WIPs and projects, and quite frankly, updating those is infinitely more satisfying than writing a flame, as amusing as writing this one was.

But hey -- there are many talented flamers here. Not everyone *has* to do 4k words monsters either, since as someone said, that would be bordering the tl;dr. So, who volunteers for the next 6?

Hey, I've studied Spanish and liked it for five years. In fact I wrote that line solely because I'm French. Call it my personal touch. :)

While I understand the third point, the first two... well, the problem is that while the story does have several flaws in its use of language and structure, at the fundamental level, most of the arguments against it address its nature rather than its execution, which does boil down to 'it sucks, because its premise sucks'. Yes, its premise does suck, but that's more of a subjective view than an objective one. We may be (read: are) right, but that doesn't mean that we can prove that we're right, at least not to the people who like the story.

Thus, the excellent flame is little different to the author and the majority of her reviewers from the simple 'it sucks' review. It's only amongst those of us intelligent enough to know beyond all doubt that the premise of the story sucks that the flame can be truly appreciated.

I stand by my statement. I might one day find a language that I despise more than I despise Spanish, but it's rather unlikely.

Narion, the point of the flame wasn't to send to the author, but for (and I'm quoting you here) us more intelligent people to have a laugh at the story's expense, something which Tinn has achieved very successfuly. Maybe you don't have a sense of humour?

I think he's arguing for argument's sake, he did it in another thread too, I believe. Can't remember what thread, I just remember Saruman saying he was trying too hard.

I think it may have been the "Epic fail PM, fails epicly" thread. Don't remember Saruman commenting though.

    Precisely.

Sometimes arguing a point to excess - even when it isn't genuinely necessary to argue it at all - can provide useful information, whether about the topic at hand, the process of discussion and argumentation, or even an unrelated topic or method.

Or so my experience teaches me.

For instance, we've learned here that Spanish is a terrible language, because I'm always right.

See, Oz? Sense of humour. And a method of (informal) argumentation.

    Narion

Edit: Oz, I suspect that he's referring to the Left Brain, Right Brain* thread, where I had some trouble with misleading data and made a poor assumption leading to a false conclusion, and then proceeded to figure out what I did wrong and analyzed the hell out of the picture. I stand by my conclusion that the image is of a render of a 3d model rotating counterclockwise, as indicated by the shadow.

*or was it the other way around?

You just manage to kill any thread you go into, don't you? Arguing a point to excess also causes a desire for your castration, especially when the point you're trying to argue is a matter of opinion, and not fact. If it were the latter, than I would agree with you. However, this is a matter of opinion. Tinn enjoys writing flames, so she wrote a flame. Why is that such a problem for you to understand?

And please, stop ending all your posts with your name. Really, we know it's you from your username. No need to state it again. It's redundant, and quite frankly, irritating as hell.

Did I speak that much of the premise?

I believe I've talked about the godawful characterisation, the canon-butchering, the horribly-crafted OCs, and some minor flaws of writing style; all of which are enough to make a story bad regardless of its premise. The premise is bad (a psychiatrist hospital? Come on) but I've seen rather good stories with a priori worse premises. It's the execution I find objectively abominable.

On a thread where members constantly rant about the desire to rape and shit on stories/reviews, it's weird to see something as benign and....pure as marriage.

Even if it is marriage to a flame (weirdsauce).
