It's not so much that it's out of place, it's more that it deters would-be readers from reading further. Too many shitty fangirl stories start out with Harry growing up in a completely AU situation and joining a band. The ONLY reason I continued was because so many people on here basically lobbied for the story. And most of those people who spoke positively about it will readily admit that it uses (read: abuses) cliche plot devices; the guitar is pretty much the tip of the iceberg.

He's consistently snarky. No one likes being a sarcastic bitch all the time, for that amount of time, to the point where he puts visible effort into it. Especially not around people he's supposedly close to. ESPECIALLY if he's a fucking quidditch star. It's getting old, and the author is wearing it to the nub.

Fair point. I'll only argue that they didn't actually Do anything till she was out of school, and she can CHANGE INTO ANY WOMAN YOU WANT.

Let that marinate in your head for a little bit.

She is 9, therefore no school to worry about. Therefore, she can follow her sister to the TriWizTourney.

But we know Harry's doing it on purpose. It's not unusual for a mask to be worn so long that it becomes reality. I've met people that are sarcastic as a default, heck I used to be one. As the author explained, all it does is attempt to prevent people from getting too close, or in the case of his friends, preventing them (and himself) from realizing how much he cares for them. He is only 16 after all.

As for the guitar thing being cliche. Meh, I read one of those stories where Harry meets a bunch of OCs in his neighborhood over the summer and ends up the lead singer/songwriter for a band with some retarded name. This bears little resemblance to that so it doesn't bother me.

So what do we have to look forward to for the next chapter? Will we get the first task, or will it be more posturing by the various heads as Harry snarks through another year at Hogwarts.

Eh I disagree with you here, I never ever get tired of the snarky attitude he has. In fact it makes me crack up every time because it is so damn amusing.

I still think this is a great story.

I actually like this fic. I can read a story with cliches. The only thing that I honestly cringed at was the whole deal with the swords. Eh... It just didn't settle with me well. All the guitar playing and super quidditch star... That didn't really bother me all that much.

Yes the whole soul calibur thing is rather off putting, a little too...eh fanboyish for my tastes.

I didn't mind the guitar though, he only plays it once a year, on Christmas...at least on screen that's all we're really exposed to. I have a sinking feeling the super samurai Harry sword play will only worsen from here....

Obviously, I've seen this fic around, and after a few chapters gave up - I don't really care for guitars, muggle sport playing Harry, or friends called Archie?

So my question then, is not what are the cliches/fanboy insertions into the fic, but rather, if I read it, how often am I going to have to skip over stuff, and am I going to be able to get into it in its own right (ie, several chapters with minimal eyegouging)?

To read this you need to gouge your eyes a little bit every chapter. It seems like his goal is to fit a cliche into every chapter: magical sword, guitar, muggle technology, etc.

Yet quite a few people, myself included, admit to finding it an entertaining read with an excellent update speed. I'd definitely say it gets better as it goes along, though if you do read it I advise you to skip every Christmas scene, it's all Harry playing the guitar at Lily's bedside while various characters interrupt him with useless filler.

Compared to 80% of current fanfiction...this is a gem. You wont have to skip much, the OC's are bearable, guitarhero!harry is fail, sword!harry? i don't really care much as long he doesn't pull out the sword of Gryfindor and start shooting spells out of it. Dammit i just remembered him playing soccer....i don't recall why i continued it, probably cause it said Harry/Fleur.

Updated. The writing in the new chapter is fairly shitty, and the first task is new. I'm really not sure how i felt about it. It was interesting, and mildly amusing.... but just not up to par with the rest of the story. Who knows, maybe the next chapter will be better.

I actually found this chapter fairly lulzworthy and enjoyable, albeit the last part where Harry explains how he rigged the contest detracted from the amusement. Nevertheless, I thought it kept in style with the rest of the story: highly incredulous, slightly ridiculous but entertaining despite all the cheesiness.

I enjoyed the new chapter as well. There were some grammer mistakes, but he admitted that this chapter was un-betad. I liked the author's idea for the first task, and Harry's interaction with Madame Maxime was very humerous. I can't wait until the Yule Ball. I imagine Madame Maxime would try to kill Harry if he asked Fleur. Good chapter even if there were a few grammer issues and typos.

This chapter is one of my favorites. He wrote Harry's encounter with Madame Maxine well. The first task was pretty interesting. I'm suprised he remembered the creature in the forest from way back in like chapter 5. All in all a good chapter, despite the typos and grammatical errors.

Generally I thought that this was a good chapter, but I think the it where Cedric was trying to communicate with the Gorpack could have been done better as it was it was slightly amusing but it could have been hilarious, it's a shame.

God, his update rates are freaking awesome. That alone makes it win, not to mention Harry is now Manipulative!Sarcastic!Funny!Ravenclaw. The newest chapter was funny, though i did see some grammatic errors.

I thought it was an OK chapter. The humor in previous chapter's just wasn't there for me. Likewise in the task I just wasn't feeling the suspense. I might re-read this chapter later for the beta-ed version. Not one of his best chapters.

Though the Maxime scene was the funniest part.

Yeah, the guitar harry or the sword harry is not my cup of tea, but hey I like they fic, its a guilty plessure, plus this has got be one of the fatest updates I seen at over 9 thousand words over. I enjoyed the task, liked how harry explained how he rigged it, it keeps in with his character, and I find it found with his interaction with madam maxime and fluer, though not sure how fluer will feel with the cheating.

The author said the only reason Harry plays a guitar is because a piano is too big to carry around...

I say fuck em both and let Harry play Ping Pong.
