Oh you faggot, Sya, that's what I was going to say to the kid. :(

Even though he already said it, let me reiterate. Most, if not all, of those stories were submitted before the For Review section was created. We've asked many times for people to tell us what fics need to be binned, no one has cared to volunteer their time. We understand, but don't start bitching because nothing has happened.

Meh. It took me a whole of twenty minutes. If I was the first DLP member to think of such a tongue-in-cheek response then I'm surprised. I wasn't aware that it was lack of knowledge on what needed binning as opposed to lack of interest to bin fics.

I love me some drama, but it's no fun when it's pretty unfounded drama.

The problem here is that a few select members have a serious issue with this fic - it strikes every nerve wrong with them and they absolutely can't comprehend why anyone likes it - and so they lobby to have it binned, including getting votes form people who've likely never read the fic in their entire life. To these bandwaggoning fucks I ask - why the fuck do you even bother to log in? You should be shot.

What those who hate it aren't keeping in mind is that there's over 3,000 members on this site, and the point to the rating system is that with everyone's expert opinion weighing in, we can come to some sort of conclusion on how good the fic is.

This is, obviously, flawed in quiet a few fundamental ways.

First off, you have people lobbying votes when they feel strongly about something. Hell, if I flame a fic and post a link to the flame in IRC, I gurantee the fic gets downmodded once or twice without people even opening it. That's pretty fucked up, but it's human nature and it's not worth trying to combat.

Secondly, tastes evolve. Those of us who've been reading fanfic for years now have gotten pretty snobby and selective in what we like - most of the unrated fics prior to the current system being implemented would make us ask WTF?

That does not make them bad, it just means we've moved on. New DLPers will probably enjoy it just as much as we did at the time.

If it gets to the point where we keep binning everything that we don't like, year to year, we'll end up rehauling the library collection every single year until people just stop caring.

I read A Second Chance at Life back in the day and, for the most part, I liked it. If memory serves, I stopped right around where he goes to Brazil and gets transported into some alternate universe.

The writing was good, the plot was original, the characterization was fine. My only concern back then was that she'd make it slash, but I never read far enough for it to matter.

I know one of the very first things I was "into" when I started up was long fics - things I could sit down with and just pass a couple hours reading start to finish. I really disliked WIPs. This has, what? 30+ Chapters? It's definitely a good place to start, and worth the read, even if you end up not liking it.

That's my opinion on the fic. I realize others have read it and haven't liked it, that's cool, you're free to your opinion to - all I ask is that you state it in a non-dickhead way.

And to the Tehan's and other fags who haven't even read it but just want to troll the thread for lulz and Drama - suck my cock you sacks of herpes and scat. You honestly serve no purpose being here.

    ...

Using that logic, we should also allow Harry/Ginny fics with soul bonds, and Ginny controlling Harry into the site - because that's what a huge number of people who first get into HP fanfiction first start liking, because it's a canon pairing.

And this fic doesn't have good characterization at all. I'll agree that it's written well, with little to no grammatical errors, but that's not all that makes a story readable.

Not just that, but because the fics are long. Most complete fics when I first started reading were either H/G or H/Hr.

There was no Dark!Harry fics that were complete, most were WIP's that ended up abandoned (Syao's first two, Dakaath, Mid's, Raven's two).

I'm not saying we need to cater to the average newbie to HP fanfic, I'm saying we shouldn't let our jaded point of views - 2/3 years into the addiction - get good fics tossed out and deprive new DLP members of good reading material. Stuff even we enjoyed - before we saw it get used a thousand times, and let it turn us off to it.

But I never enjoyed this fic, even at the time. I read like 10 or so chapters into it, and immediately tossed it away. And that was at the time at which I'd pretty much read anything. :\

You're not the only guy on DLP though dude :p You need to lay off and let the rating takes it's course, personal feelings aside.

I did lay off, the rating had nothing to do with me. I haven't asked one person to lower the rating.

This piece of shit is finally where it belongs. Do I sense a great purge of the library commencing?

4 stars. I think it needs to be moved to its rightful place in the alternate forum.

I reread it yesterday after seeing the bitch-fest here, as I thought - in the interludes between the masses of pointless drivel - that a few good points were raised. The first chapter sucks - quite horribly I might add - and breaks several of the almighty Potter's Laws. A few other points irritate me, particularly having Namach fucking that elf dude, but not terribly many.

All things said and done, it's a reasonably good fic: not flawless, but readable, creative, and entertaining. I won't be a dick and try to weight the vote by throwing in a 5; it isn't one. I do think it deserves to be in the Library - I'd call it a 4/5 - but I'll admit it's a close call.

I can't get past the first few chapters.

Allow me to explain why in a single sentence:

HOGWARTS IS THE BEST MAGICAL SCHOOL IN EUROPE.

Super-secret uber-schools are autophailure, in my eyes.

It still is. Just so happens that in this fic Europe sucks due to pure bloods holding back change and not having interaction with other species.

EDIT: Sree shouldn't you move this back now that its 4 stars? After all being a mod you have to go by the rules and the rules say 4 stars go in the library.

After someone went through all the trouble to have a massive pos rep for this thread? Nah, I wouldn't want to please them.

From 108 votes to 121 votes, all 5. At the number the reviews are at now, even .1 isn't a small number.

Lol. Or maybe those 13 people were told to do so my someone else. Because most everyone who liked the fic has already voted.
