    ... Too easy.

But yeah i was wondering that too. We got a few good authors after that, I'd be curious to see who would win.

The only counter-measure to Jbern is JBERN.

    True, that is pretty funny.

Albeit, civil war will begin again.

If it's gonna be a bitch-fest like last time it might be better to just not. -.-

Thats kind of the point, Rehio. You niggers need to get active and get shit moving on the forums. Thats kind of semi-why DLP is moving away from just Harry Potter fanfiction.

But either way, Jbern adds little to the site. Get rid of the cunt.

There are more contenders this time, or to put it better there are other stories which have rabid fanbases.

I would imagine Nonjon's Black Comedy and Shezza's Denarian Knight series would be the front runners.

This time there really could be variety.

Look at the name, it should be obvious.
Yeah, those two are epic stories, and they will definitely be frontrunners to win awards. However, I don't think one author sweeps all the awards, since there are so many good stories.

Just a suggestion, if DLP does indeed decide to hold the awards: Don't let any new members (3 months or younger) vote for the awards.

If this IS going to occur, will there be sufficient popularity for the 'Best Work by a New Author' category to return? I've been working on a fiction, and wasn't planning on posting it until it was at least 3/4 done, but if this category is coming up, I'll happily post what I have.

Looking over the winners in the past, I think this has been the weakest of the categories. That said, several new writers have emerged this past year, some of whom (scaryisntit, e.g.), are very good.

As for a single writer sweeping, a plausible fix is to disallow multiple wins for a single fic--let authors choose their rank-ordered list of preferred wins. To use Jim as an example, if he were to nominate TLIL for best romance, indy, OC, and overall fic, let him say, "I prefer the order: Overall, Indy, OC, Romance". Then if he loses "Overall," but wins "Indy," he won't be eligible for OC or Romance. The rest, if he still ranks highest, get listed as "Honorable mention." If some categories, e.g., Romance, get nothing but a bunch of "Honorable mentions", so be it.

Obviously, allowing people to decline to vote in categories where they aren't competent (a complaint from times past) is also a must.

What? The guy who whipped out one of the worst clichés of all time, Harry Potter-Black!! I think not.

The step towards the end was just about tolerable until that gash made it in. I mean the adopted surname is seriously outdated, its got 2005 written all over it and even then it turned any reasonable Potter fan right off a fic.

Speaking as one who's himself trotted out a hackneyed cliché (hello D&R time-turner, RoR abuse), I think he's got a good, ambitious, first fic going. If Harry's hyphenated name is the worst of his sins, he's doing pretty damned good. Sure, there's room for improvement, but can you point to any fic, much less an author's first major fic, that doesn't suffer from that?

Most all of the writers we consider "best in class" today got their starts with stories that weren't up to their current standards. Had my first exposure to jbern been the introductory chapters of "To Fight the Coming Darkness," (which, while good, isn't great), I would have been less enthusiastic about his abilities as an author.

Enh, A Second Chance at Life would sweep these awards anyways.

Last time there was a new authors category, that would be suited for someone you want to give leeway for having some cliches.

But I know that at least the old member base is unlikely to let something over done slide, unless there is something very new in the story as well.

I wouldn't mind seeing the awards, but I know they are a hell of a lot of work for Raven and afterwards the mod staff to deal with, so it is probably up to them.

A Second Chance At Life sweeping the awards? I don't know what your day-job is, but quitting it may be solid advice. To become a comedian.

All those laughs...are not directed towards anything you said...or at least not in a supportive manner. We aren't laughing with you...we're laughing at you. =]

And if I were you I would consider not bothering looking for a day job because you're just going to get laughed out of the interview.

You can't use we when you're the only person to have made a comment.

Don't worry I'm sure Sree and his band of faggots will be along shortly. Hopefully he leaves the band of faggots at home.
