Yeah, I agree there. I hate fics where Harry casts "Ludso, jslfks, sjshs"

The first spelll rotted your eyes out and the second fucked you up the asshole with a pike while the 3 tied your intestines into knots. That's retarded.

There is a bit of that in this fic but mostly he uses physical spells bludgeoners etc, and lighting along with close combat attacks.

Rahkesh generally uses low-power instant death spells; instead of using death magic to take away their life-force, or whatever AK theory you subscribe to, just Duro their innards into stone.

Plus, you can use these spells for other things. Rahkesh could carve a shelter out of rock, if he wanted too, or blast someone into a million pieces. AK is mostly for getting past shields, and to provide JKR with 'evil magic' to contrast Harry and Dumbledore.

Acceptable answer I guess. The whole mechanics of a killing spell kind of fuck the series in the ear, I suppose.

    Still don't love the story.

This thread is lulz. Doesn't create them, it simply is lulz..

I pictured a bird made of of lightning and storm clouds rather than flesh and blood.

Many, many authors run into that problem.

They want to create cool new spells for Harry to kick ass with but forget about the 'killing curse'.

One thing to remember is that the killing curse is not affected by shields and what a lot of authors do is write that it's unforgivable because it affects the soul.

I always pictured a Zapdos tbh.

Then I always figured there would be a Fire Bird and an Ice Bird. (Moltres and Articuno)

But so far they haven't been written in.

I don't mind the first explanation, about it being totally unblockable, but the second one irks me incredibly.

    It touches you, you die.

    Your head explodes, you die.

Either way, someone is dead. IN fact, the head explody one is messier, and more traumatizing for the kiddies.

I guess I always assumed that the AK was particularly tiring - only an unusually powerful wizard could cast more than a few at a time. In a pitched battle, one-every-minute-or-two probably won't be fast enough. Rahkesh's lightning bolts are easy for him, and will take down a crowd all at once.

And with the AK you need hate to cast it. It might be hard to constantly call up enough hate to cast it properly.

Unless you are Bellatrix. I wonder: was she a raving psycho before Azkaban, or just a pureblood fanatic who saw Riddle as a political party?

I think that she was like that even before Azkaban. Maybe just a little less sadistic.

No canon proof. What people have done is say that, because the Cruciatus needs an emotional trigger, it must be true of the other 2 Unforgivables also. However, there is no reason to think that what is true of one unforgivable is true of another - as far as we know, they share nothing in common magically: their linkage is a legal one, not a magical one. In addition, we know from DH that the Imperius doesn't need an emotional trigger.
