Not to seem petty or anything, as this not a new post, but I would greatly appreciate it if you did not call my fic (Requemtoir) "trash", as, quite frankly, you are not the writer. And you may also feel free to take all of the others off of there as well. Seriously, "trash"? Just because you don't like them, they are "trash"?

Since when was only the author the person who could judge the quality of something? If anything, it's the other way around: the author is the sole person who can't properly judge the true value of a fic (some overestimate their own value (Volorn lol), some underestimate).

You apparently haven't ever read a book review or film review in a newspaper or magazine, because this is exactly what we're doing: reviewing stories, and then rating them. If anything, what we do is fairer and more objective, because there are hundreds of members reviewing and rating. If your story has 3 stars then it's considered by this forum to be Recycling Bin material. End of. Learn to take criticism in your stride.

Also, I think you misunderstand the purpose of the Recycling Bin. The RB is for fics that are readable and enjoyable, but don't quite reach the level of excellence required to make it into the main Library. Average, 3/5. Not "trash". Trash just gets deleted.

Personally, I liked your fic, short though it currently is. But throwing a tantrum because not everyone likes it is just immature.

It's not that their consider trash. From what I've seen in this forum. There is a higher standard, when adding a fic to the Library. That means if your fic is in the Library, it's pretty good. One way or another and the stories that go to the Recycle bin have a chance to make it back out. If the story becomes better. Criticism helps authors try to better their work and improve their writing. There will always be people who don't like what you write and that will never change. To be a good author you have to take criticism in stride.

I am saying that your word choice was harsh and immature, and, quite frankly, had nothing to do with the number of votes received but your personal opinion of them. However, if I am wrong and you simply threw the word out there without intending it to be so, then I apologize.

Though I would like to point out the fine line between "criticism" and "flame", of which the word "trash" is on. Think about that next time you accuse someone of not being able to take it, ok?

I liked it better when that section was called the 'Trash Bin' because it accurately portrayed what most of the shit in there was.

How can calling a fic 'trash' be considered immature? Jesus.

EDIT: I just read her fic and it is actually pretty good - very interesting to say the least.

The sentence was anything but immature, and was designed to point out the rank hypocrisy in binning on fic within a range, and not giving the same treatment to the others.

 

I get the principal being damaged, but in all fairness, this fic is getting a lot more press than it deserves precisely because it is in the Recycling Bin. Had this fic been moved to the library, the discussion surrounding its controversial content would have ended, and many people who have started to read this fic, and liked it or not, would never had known of its existance.

Been reading through this thread backwards after seeing it in the bin for the first time (I'm trying to find the reason why, it'll probably take a while as I go back).

I always pictured the Thunderbird to look like Quezacotl from final fantasy 8. If you don't know what he looks like, or what he is, he's a big ass serpentish thunderbird that does huge electric attacks. Look him up, he looks cool too, I think.

Lol, ouch, my bad. I do wish you'd said something on the story's post though, it doesn't help me if I find such thoughts on someone else's story's thread.

I can't be effed going back further to see a definitive reason for why this fic is in the recycle bin, I figure I've got the gist of the reason by page 35 anyway.

Regardless, I still really like this story - I don't think there are many like it. I also like how Voldemort isn't the main focus, though, I can see how die hard HP fans would dislike the story because of this.
