    God...

I didn't know so much people like this story...

I mean: school of assassin, vampire, over-power vampire, over-power everyone and their pet owl (panther?), useless Voldemort, demon??? And the list can go on...

Seriously... This story is a joke.

Anyway, this story is in the The Recycling Bin so it will win nothing.

Since you are being such an ass about this, I second his comment so... WE are laughing at you! :p

The reason we didn't run awards back in January is that nobody seemed interested in awards, or interested in helping organize them.

No one argued against the fun factor of the story. It is indeed fun, but reads that are only fun don't justifiably win awards.

A Black Comedy wins every category. And then a few more.

I'd still like to see the Awards go up, the 2007 Awards gave me a number of great fics to read :D

somehow i am never around when the voting goes down and the results always shock me because i think "wasn't that story published in 2004?"

eh ASCAL and its sequel are like that^

I think the awards are usually for the stories written in that year.

and we're in may now, I dunno if its even worth having them anymore.

I dunno - I like the idea of the awards, but I don't like the idea of any one author "Sweeping" anything with incredible ease. Kind of ruins it for me. I don't think any ONE story or ONE author has written anything last year that is COMPLETELY better than every other thing written - but the "Yeah, second chance at death totally rocks the blippityblah" comments make me wary. Color me interested, but wary.

What's up with this obsession for a fic that hasn't even been updated all that much lately?

Back on topic: Wouldn't mind having awards, but I'm not going to comment much on the rules. Limiting the categories each author can win in would be a pretty intelligent decision, though.

It got a 18k word update today. Thats more than enough to have it as a WIP.

I have a tendency to ignore fanfiction awards of all types, but I'm familiar with the phenomenon of one or two authors 'sweeping' the awards. A friend of mine and I did it a few years ago in the JAG fandom. Between the two of us, we won almost everything. We'd been friends in our original fandom and even beta'd a bit here and there for each other.

If we have awards, I will probably ignore them yet again. There were flame wars over the Kerths, which are the fic awards in Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. The flame wars left such a bad taste in my mouth that I've ignored fic awards ever after. Strangely enough, ignoring them seems to have the effect of me winning before I even know I've been nominated...

It would be nice to have the awards, they are good fun and stir up the whole community.
I read some complaints, that DLP is too PC these days. Surely, the awards would take care of that. ;)
It wouldn't be too hard to work out a system of nomination to prevent a complete whitewash. A story should only be nominated to one category and the author should decide to accept the nomination, or reject it and wait for another nomination to a different one. :?:
What were the rules for the vote previously?

Nice idea, indeed. Let me take this personally: if the honored members of the forum measured me via introduction and decided to let me join, didn't give me banstick, then why on earth should I not vote??

Because hundreds of others don't make an introduction and don't bring attention to themselves and thus don't get banned.

I think the awards could be fun - there have been a lot of great stories that deserve some recognition.

Of course, I'd be forced to vote for heavy-hitter jbern's "The Lie I've Lived" in some capacity, but I also agree with some of the other recommendations. "Black Comedy" was pure unadulterated awesomeness on my screen, and could conceivably sweep the majority of categories.

Regarding Flairgold's "Second Chance at Life" - it was decently written, but in my mind, is no longer HP Fanfiction. The first...half, perhaps, of the first story (not even considering how much further the sequel departed from HP) was kinda neat. From there, it focused on all the new elements and very much so trivialized the entire focus of HP. I think at some point the author even mentions that one of their ridiculously powerful characters might have to "deal" with the Voldemort situation as though he's some kind of pest instead of the most knowledgeable wizard in the world, as Dumbledore claims in canon.

Perhaps she has a future in original fantasy - though I don't particularly care for stories where the heroes are so far beyond the other characters in every way possible - but she departed too far from HP to be taken seriously in this media.

    Anyway, awards sound fun!

Excluding Muggles and Squibs could be a valid and effective solution, but time limit didn't sound too righteous to me.
