Yes because what we really want is a ton of people spamming posts just before the awards right? The time limit is the most viable option, however it does have flaws.

Excluding muggles and squibs would simply result in n00bs spamming threads so as to get the requisite number of posts to be able to vote.

EDIT: Dammit elvin) you just had to post a millisecond before me, didn't you!

Exclued people who haven't been around for three months and all people who are muggles and squibs. This keeps the long term unactive members and the noobs from being able to play, while reducing the number of possible spammers.

No, no we're not yet. We may hold the awards in July assuming shit gets done.

Conditions on who can vote will be decided by the staff.

Because with 12 posts it's hard to value your worth. If you want to put a limitation, you should do it on account of post count, not time.

Yes, and get a massive spamathon in the days before the awards.

    Thanks, but no thanks.

Couldn't the admins easily just turn off post count for a few days so it would be pointless to spam? They did turn it off for the Introduction board right?

I assure you the criteria for voting are well taken care of. That was not an issue last year.

Cool, I'm excited that this is happening.

Hoping to hear about some good new stories that I haven't read, like the previous years just put me onto HP and the Hero's Path from the New Author section.

    Thanks Ravenclaw!

I really don't see what the problem here is as far as one author or story sweeping the catagories. Just limit the amount of times a single story can be nominated and have the author approve the nomination so a story like TLIL doesn't get stuck in "crackfic" or something. Or is there a bigger picture thing here that I am missing.

I don't really even see the problem with one author sweeping the categories. The whole point of a vote is that it's democratic: if people think a certain fic is the best in multiple categories, then why rig the voting system to prevent this from occurring? It rather undermines the whole purpose of having awards in the first place.

If that's the aim of the awards, then we might as well get rid of the idea of a voting system altogether and just appoint a set of DLP approved judges to decide what the best fics in the various categories are.

Members joining for the sole purpose of voting: that's a potential problem, but a problem that was taken care of last year already.

I agree with your comment to a point. I think we actually need to take into account the purpose of a contest to begin with. I mean there is no monetary value, no real award, basically just bragging rights. Authors out there aren't biting at the bit to write uber-fantastic stories on the chance that they will win a specific contest. Or if they are then they really need to seek professional help.

Vash: "This year I'm gonna win the DLP Best Porn category if it kills me! Pride, Money, Fame, Hannah will all be mine!!!"

Naughty Nurse: "It's time for your three o'clock therapy session, Mr. Vash."

    Vash: "TITS or GTFO"

    Okay ... back on topic.

Have you actually watched an award show where one show sweeps the awards? It's boring. No suspense. Even if the show is so freaking wonderful that it actually deserves everything it gets.

Leave a little room for the authors that have just as good amount of talent but aren't as well known to actually receive a little notoriety.

I'm not the type of girl that insists that every player gets an award, that's just plain stupid. But I am a girl that likes a little diversity.

I wouldn't even mind the "appointed judges" format.

I would be rather annoyed at an 'Appointed judges' ruling simply because there aren't enough voters that we don't really need someone to vote for us. Besides, do you really want to start an intera-forum bitch fest about who's most qualified to vote on these things? No. If a fic is good enough to sweep them, then so be it. You can bet every time someone nominates a flairgold or JBern there is going to be at least three or four members going "Well just for that i'm going to find a fic that'll beat it in this catagory."

Yes there are authors with a strong following here, but I'm willing to give enough credit to the relatively silent majority here to be as impartial as possible, and to vote for whatever fic is actually the best.

That being said I'd like also like to see a 'No opinion' option. There are some catagories that I just don't particularly like enough to read all the nominations for.

    QFT.

That's why the awards were swept last time. People were forced to make a choice, so they voted for the only story they'd read.

    I lol'd.

On topic though, great the awards are back. Let's see if JBern can win every other category again >_>.

I'm going to make it my goal to go through all the fics in the sections I like, and probably reread the ones I've already been through. It will be awesome.
