Are you for real? Thats nasty, I was just stating that the Wizarding world seems to have really bad morals. But still, Human Hedwig is nothing Ive seen owl Hedwig/Harry.

Uh...you do know that lots of that is banned, right?

That's like saying the Muggle world has no morals because there are murderers.

And what's wrong with Draught of Living Death?

More like because there are guns. Methinks Dark lord knox is not the greatest of ethical debaters.

As far as I know the only one's banned are the the unforgivables, and the point I was making was someone had to have invented them, And Everything else is TAUGHT to them, and they learn of the the three unforgiveables. As for DOLD, it puts the person used on into a almost un-wakeable sleep.

And? Anesthetic does this in the Muggle world. The existence of a technology (or magic) says nothing of morality itself. It is how the item is used which can be either good or bad, and even then, it will just be an individual that does so. To generalise to an entire society is a rather excessive simplification.

I've got a half-dozen different 'potions' under my sink that can do one better. Does that say anything about my ethics, or just about my ability to make my dishes lemon fresh?

Ok fine I Concede, It was a rather Excessive simplification of the society as a whole and not well thought out.

I wasn't really talking about Dark magic, or magic at all. I was just talking about ethics in general, and about how you can't reduce morality down to actions themselves - or in this case, the ability to perform an action.

Veela magnetism is contagious. It's caught by repeated sexual contact with Veela. Each member of the Delacour family maintains harems of Veela for this exact reason. That, and spending the night with several women who can turn into vicious clawed flame-throwing bird-women is great security.

If veela are phoenixes+wizards, then we can have this be a possible thing Fawkes+Dumbledore = Fleur

Okay that is just so wrong, made myself throw up a little.

First, for the record, here's the thread where the male Veelas' existence has already been discussed: Veela Society. (That's where I posted the theory about Veela genetics that Taure mentioned, but since then I realised it didn't work with canon.)

Second, to answer to Sesc: I don't see how Fleur can be a full Veela. She has some of the Veelas' power, but we don't see her entrancing everyone, Harry included, every time she appears -- as true Veelas did during the Quidditch World Cup. Granted, it's reasonable to assume that the Veelas at the World Cup somehow turned their charm on, while Fleur keeps hers turned off, and we also know Harry seems more resistant to it than, say, Ron.

However, even when Harry wasn't under the dancing Veelas' charm, his perception of them was noticeably different from his perception of Fleur. Harry says Fleur looks good but, unlike the time when he saw the Bulgarian mascots, he doesn't notice her hair floating about despite the lack of wind, or her skin glistening like moonlight or whatnot. We also see her get angry a few times without any of the bird-related side-effects. As far as I'm concerned, she has Veela blood, but can't be considered as a full Veela.

I'm thinking that the number of Veela at the World Cup had something to do with that as well. Fleur's only one lady.

But even at that, Harry had noticed how every other guy was breaking their necks to look at her - and that was just when she was walking. I think previous exposure, and mental capability, plays a strong factor in resistance to the Veela. Harry was able to snap out of his trance when confronted with a flock of them, so dealing with one was a cakewalk.

French Veela are more in control than Bulgarian Veela? Leprechauns bring out the worst in people? She's so vain that, perhaps, she sees making herself less beautiful as a weakness (regardless of the extra...firepower)? It hurts when she has to molt while transforming back? She can't use magic when transformed (a la Remus) ?

    Whole gamut of explanations, really.

Was my version of GoF different to everyone else's? In my copy, Harry was about to jump off of the top of the stadium in an attempt to impress the Veela, and he only stopped because the dance ended.
