Harry finally decides to take back his freedom.

    Category: Harry Potter - Rating: NC-17 - Genres: Crossover,Erotica,Humor - Characters: Harry - Warnings: [!!] [X] [?] - Chapters: 16 - Published: 2008/05/25 - Updated: 2008/06/15 - 163218 words

Its in no way a stellar fic, but its worth a couple of chuckles. It's ridiculously cliche, but the writing quality isnt as bad as some.

Don't let the Original: 5 rating fool you on ficwad, this is not original, but with the solid update rate (pretty much chapter a day up till now, but he/she is now up to date with the yahoo group so I don't know where it will go from there...)

Win elements: Fluer and Mrs Malfoy - Narcissa being quite witty in places

    Fail Elements: BlackDragon!Animagus!Harry

I didn't think I was going to like this: an uneven balance of power in a crossover, primary focus on Death Eaters and Voldemort, and not a single mention of Harry Potter? But still, I thought this was really good. I like the idea, the implications, and the slight way the worlds overlap. Nice rec. Easy 4/5 for me.And it's closer to a 5/5 than a 3/5. Good fic.

    http://fanfiction.portkey.org/story/7982

Summary: AU, Hermione Granger's a death eater, yet not completely unbelievable. H/Hr (it's Portkey, so go fig)

It's pretty short, not a horrible read. Same superintelligent!Hermione, but Harry's not a douche and Hermione's not a nattering nag. Depending on one's tastes, it's not a total waste of time, but I wouldn't rec it. Decently well crafted English, not superb though.

    Hermione's Change reviews
Stop trying to scare me, Hermione. Only Dementors, Voldemort, and Grawp freak me out, so you can just give up on that ... This is nothing. Get this through your head: I love you and that's not changing. Complete - Harry Potter - Fiction Rated: K+ - English - Drama/Romance - Chapters: 1 - Words: 6,803 - Reviews: 32 - Updated: 1-24-05 - Published: 1-24-05

Pretty good H/Hr one-shot about Hermione being turned into a vampire and how she and Harry deals with it.

The romance is pretty well-written, and I like the original and realistic portrayal of how one might actually feel if he/she got suddenly turned into a vampire.

Only reason I don't put this up in the Library is because I think it might be a bit too angsty for some.

    Genre: Adventure/General
    DLP Category: Boredom
    Pairing: Harem

Summary: Harry returns to his youth to repair his life and get revenge on those who used him. H/Harem. Weasley minus the twins and Dumbledore bashing. Confident, Independant, strong, attitude-laden Harry.

I knew that this would be a cliché-ridden Indy!Harry redo bash-fest, but still persevered out of boredom.

I was disappointed, which is definitely an accomplishment in on itself. It's doubtlessly in the barely readable category, if even that, but I can't help but read updates anyway.

Lisa Roquin has nifty ideas, and a wonderful grasp of characterization. However, her grammar skills are horrible. Her endings are FAR worse than Heinlein's worst. My sister told me that Roquin had so many offers to beta, that the woman got insulted and posted a message on her LJ that if someone didn't like the way she wrote, they were free to go elsewhere.

Considering exactly how hard it can be to find a beta, that's pretty impressive.

This story is a good example. Great idea - a perfectly reasonable innovation to HP canon, crossed with a spine-chillingly believable theory in the BtVS 'verse. The characters are portrayed with perception and sensitivity. The scenes' humor isn't forced: I can believe each event.

The pacing, the spelling and the grammar suck. There a good short fic set up here, "Hermione's Summer Vacation." It's maddening have it wasted.

I got a couple of laughs out of this one; from the opening scene I thought it might actually be a decent humor/parody fic.

Reading through, it doesn't really strike me as bad so much as simply not really excellend. The writing has some mistakes, but not enough to seriously piss me off, and, as I said, there are little bits here and there that are somewhat funny (at one in the morning). My only true complaint is that the author gave in to fuckwittery at one point and broke the third wall. Despite being half-decent otherwise, that pretty immediately drops it into the 'almost' recommended.

    @Anubis:
He's Not Normal was light fun. I enjoyed it, and I've put it on my alerts. It isn't a very good story, certainly not a candidate for the Library, but it made me smile. Thanks.

    Edited to add:
If it wasn't for the Forum rules against double-posting, I would have given this one its own entry.

    http://www.tthfanfic.com/Story-13680/TombCranktheCrafty+No+Amends+for+the+Distant+Wrong.htm

Summary: Wesley has an interesting discussion with Albus Dumbledore as to the proper use of Slayers.

Short-short ~ 1300 words. A ruthless old man loses sight of the big picture. This one is intelligent and perfectly reasonable. The only real problem is that I can't see Wesley being able to stand against Dumbledore. If it wasn't for that, I might have suggested it for the Library.

    Banner,

One of the first Manipulative Dumbledore stories I ever read was one of Lisa Roquin's. Grammar issues aside, it was enjoyable... until she decided that slash was the way to go.

I don't often follow this thread, but this story fits in here if anything does. Dunno if it's been posted before though.

Title: Scorpius Malfoy and the Improbable Plot
    Linkage: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4357627/1/Scorpius_Malfoy_and_the_Improbable_Plot
    Author: Opalish
    Genre: Humour/Crackfic
    Rating: T
Summary: Scorpius really should have listened to his father's numerous and dire warnings about the Potter clan. Harry feels his pain, and wishes someone had bothered to warn *him*. Gen crackfic WIP, yo.

The improbable plot is just that, improbable. It's the Next Gen, according to the DH Epilogue and basically everybody gets along with each other. Especially Harry and Scorpius. The fic focusses on harry trying to handle his children.... who're just little monsters. Ben following this for almost a week. 3 chapters, 4k words, but hey - it makes me crack out a smile. Pretty successful in being a crackfic, this one.

"Oh em gee," Lily gasped. "Unchill, so very unchill."

    I lol'd.

A Ghost of a Chance, by DanyellaSkyler (and I wouldn't have clicked on it if I'd read the author's name first.)
    It's a one-shot, but it's listed as incomplete
    12K words
    No Pairing
It's an HP/Supernatural cross, with an *incredibly* fun OC. This is just post-Umbridge. Harry is sane, adaptable, and smart enough not to get involved with fighting the demons, etc. when he's ignorant. This isn't one for the Library, but it's light entertainment. Snape's characterization is mildly upsetting, but he's only got one real scene.

Edited to add: Clarrisa might not actually be an OC. It's a tough call.

Harry disappeared for three years, only to return as a very different man. HP/RL, Grey!Harry, identity changes, Evil!Dumbledore, serious slash, Dark Lord mocking, and political!Harry. OOC behavior and AU.

Got sent this, and unfortunately I followed the link and read some without checking the summary; apparently somebody from a Yahoo group likes this shite.

Harry has been gone 3 years, but 15 years of course; he's uber powerful (so it seemed) and goes by the name of Alexandros, his powers been blocked by Dumbledore and he calls Voldemort the Duck Lord, I flopped around like a magikarp after three chapters because my IQ had been lowered to uttermost fail.

    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4336686/1/Dark_Lord_Rising
Starts during the Triwizard Tournament in Harry’s 4th year. Harry comes to the realization that Voldemort isn’t going to stop coming after him. With the school turning on him Harry feels lost and betrayed. Deciding that he has to train for the future H

Another failure; the summary seemed somewhat interesting at an early hour, 'oh Harry trains himself, might as well see what happens' but then the failometer was introduced, including pwnz0r ub0r hermi0ne who knows everything, is bossy; hot and better than Merlin. I believe I saw the word soul bond in there, but again I was having trouble reading due to sheer eye gouging with a blunt axe.

Far to early to see if this will become good enough for DLP, but it looks quite interesting at the moment.

    1. Britain's Ordeal: a YW and HP Crossover » reviews
Nita has a dream about a baby, a merciless killer, and two words: Avada Kedavra. She journeys to England to counter the boundless evil behind them, along the way discovering a country with lost wizardry because of a Power with a big heart.

A good concept ruined by a bad execution. Not the storytelling itself, which is actually pretty good, but rather the way the two universes were interwoven. I'd like to read a good crossover of these two series though.

The first one is actually funny - Logic vs Wizarding cognition. I *really* enjoy the way someone actually realizes that Black trying to feed Snape to a werewolf is attempted murder. JKR seems to let people get away with nearly any form of abuse, if they say it's a joke. Harry and Hermione using reason and causation in critical junctures makes me feel much better about the stupider parts of the books.

This is probably closer to "barely readable" than "almost recommended," but someone here might find it moderately amusing. It's a gimmick fic; the author (moi) attempted a brief retelling of the HP series using nothing but partial anagrams of "Harry James Potter." Enjoy.

Harry James Potter: Anagram by Perspicacity. The Harry Potter saga told in a form where every word in the story is composed from the letters “Harry James Potter.” (It's slightly harder than it looks).
