Not laugh out loud funny but it made me smile... it deserves at least a 3/5.

    Interesting. A rather intellectual gimmick.

But is it fair to call them anagrams?

At first I thought you restricted it so that every word in the fic could be made from "Harry James Potter" or the letters a(2)-e(2)-h(1)-j(1)-m(1)-o(1)-p(1)-r(3)-s(1)-t(2)-y(1). But then I realized that wasn't right. Resets, separates, protests, and teasers were four words I spotted early on using two Ss.

In which case, you're not anagramming anything, you're just restricting yourself to the letters aehjmoprsty.

Then again the lack of words with multiple Os makes me wonder if you just missed those double S words.

That's the problem with a gimmicky intellectual fic. You can't criticize the story much so the process gets extra scrutiny.

    Fuck a duck.

I thought I had caught all the words with excessive letters; my sed script to check must be broken. I was trying for true anagrams.

Now I get to use that nifty "edit" feature on ff.net....

[Edit. Repaired modulo any other bugs in my script. Thanks, nonjon, for pointing out my error].

I don't think that most people here will like this one - especially because it's SS/HG... But Hermione's characterisation is very good. The end is meh - too much sugar.

I think most chapters are quite funny, though indeed not worth the library.

Birth of a Phoenix, Phoenix Catcher

I wasn't expect to enjoy this one - the TWL, neglectful Lily and James, foster-parent Flamels, and esp. a phoenix animagus are all risky concepts. Any of them is generally a warning for me to avoid the story entirely. I'm glad I took a flier on this one.

The first chapter was angsty, but (somehow) not sickeningly so, and the story just seemed to get better after that. Harry/Eridani isn't superpowerful, he isn't brilliantly intelligent, he doesn't even have a miraculous healing. Instead I found a smart, brave, and loyal boy.

Imagine that! An abused, ill, phoenix!Harry TWL that actually manages to have a personality.

    Wow.

I get weird twincestuous (twin incest) and homosexual vibes from that story, Banner. Seriously, I have an identical twin brother, and we are as close as can be, but we do not hug. Nor do we sleep in the same room- let alone all close in the same bed. Guys just don't do that shit. Girl twins, I know, are a bit closer with that stuff, but girls are like that with their best friends anyways.

If the author was a girl, then she really, really needs to learn something about guys. If the author is a guy, then he probably had a really strange home life and is secretly gay.

And I'm not being homophobic or anything here. I'm a twin and a guy. I know another set of twin guys. We just don't act that way. It seriously creeped me out to learn that anyone would think that we would- to the point where I am about to go challenge my brother to a game of bloody knuckles just to reaffirm that he isn't going to hop into my bed and tell me how much he loves me. *pukes in mouth*

I figured that Harry spends so much time as an animagus, he doesn't really register as a should-be-adolescent boy. He's been so ill for so long, and of course his focus is merely on surviving long enough to kill Voldemort.

I hadn't really thought about it. The author did do an awful lot of explaining about how it wasn't supposed to be erotic. The feeling I got was that a lot of it was just clinging to someone desperately missed for so long.

Eh, phoenix-catcher writes the same type of Harry in most of her stories. He makes a close male friend, and they end up crying on each-other, hugging, expressing their (supposedly) platonic love, and most importantly, sleeping together. That's probably the thing that's annoyed me most about her stories; she has absolutely no understanding of the male psyche. Then again, if you look at her reviews, you'll find that very few of the fan-girls that read her stories have any more of an understanding of men. It's pretty disturbing actually.

I just liked the Harry characterization, and I was having fun thinking about all the ways Eri can make Umbridge miserable in the upcoming year.

I have a weakness for Twin stories. I end up reading trainwrecks more often than not in this genre. It's better than average, but not library-worthy. Probably why it ended up in this thread!

As I said, he's a homosexual. Or she's lying. Either way, this was not written by the normal, run-of-the-mill dude.

Most of his stories are labelled as slash, 'Birth of a Phoenix' is one of the few that isn't. So it is rather likely that he at least swings both ways.

I suggest that Banner asks him :p

Shameless self-plug, but in no way am I posting it For Review:

It's Snape-centric, so it fails Potter Law, but I genuinely think some of the people here at DLP will actually enjoy this story. Even Vash.

...Probably especially Vash, now that I think about it.

That was...disturbing. Part of me wishes it was Harry who had gone back after wishing he had his parents, and being so determined not to ruin it he put up with it. However a lot of the fic only works with Snape as he enjoys it. Very disturbing. [ObligatoryH/Hrhaet]Should have been Padma![/ObligatoryH/Hrhaet]

This particular author seems to start quite a few crossovers with comics, so this one, considering it hasn't been updated since last November, may be destined to be abandoned.

Wizards, Superheroes, and Jackalopes » reviews Harry is sent to live with relatives in the US after the events of GOF. There he meets Luna Lovegood. The problem is, his relatives are superheroes. This isn't great literature, nor is it all that serious, but it's a fun little read.

@Kafka: Well... if I was expecting anything, I wasn't expecting that.

I say put that shit up for review. I, at least, would give it a 4/5. It might not make the library but I certainly think most people will find it bin worthy.
