I've only recently begun watching anime, but it's surprisingly addicting. I was browsing DLP, and I found the Code Geass thread. Most of you were raving about it, and I was bored, so I gave it a try. It's been a week, and I've managed to watch the entire series in my spare time, and now I'm on the prowl for moar.

I looked into Death Note, and watched the first couple episodes. I enjoyed the mind games, but the whole "Kira vs. L" plotline seemed to get repetitive, and after awhile I just wanted to see some violence. The other series I tried was Avatar, but it just seemed a little childish, even with such an interesting premise.

So, does anybody here have some suggestions for me? Basically, a balance of action, mystery, and drama would be ideal.

I apologize in advance if this is the wrong forum, but it did seem like the best place to post this, since it isn't a thread searching for fanfiction.

Arguably the two best anime ever are Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion.

I second the Cowboy Bebop and Evangeleon nominations. Trigun is also really good if you want lots of action.

Outlaw Star was damn good... I remember this one... I only watched two or three episodes and I really liked it, don't remember what it was called and I couldn't ever find the time to watch the rest. I think it was like.... Elfien Lied or something?

Never seen it. Wanted to watch it after that crossover someone wrote, but to cheap to buy it, to lazy to download it.

Hmm let's see /goes to check his anime...

D Gray Man is pretty good. I actually think the anime is better than the manga, despite the anime's tendency to drag some things out. Has to do with exorcists killing demons(Akuma) and foiling the plans of the Millennium Earl.

Zipang is good if you are looking for some time travel and inner dilemma kind of stuff. A 21st century Japanese battle ship ends up right before the Battle of Midway. The crew tries desperately to not get involved and let time run its course, but they find themselves being drawn in no matter what they do, and before they know it the timeline has started to change.

Claymore was amazing. What's better than killing demons? Hot blond haired girls with big swords killing demons. Dark atmosphere and good story, though I don't like the ending. I guess that's why I read the manga since it's still on going.

Full Metal Alchemist. Nuff said, go watch it >_<

What kind of movies and non-animated tv-shows do you like?

    Which crossover?

Dragonball and Dragonball Z. Classics, though Z gets repetitive after the first 150 episodes or so. >_>

I also recommend Naruto. It's turned to shit in Shippuuden, but if you just read/watch up to the timeskip, then you'll like it fine. I'm mainly recommending this for the amount of awesome new fanfiction you'll be able to read.

And watch Avatar. It is a childs show, but it's still pretty epic. It gets darker a bit later on and gets more action intense. And it's not an anime.

I personally didn't like FLCL, everyone seems to though, so it's worth watching just so you can talk about it.

Also would avoid My Neighbor Totoro and Howl's Moving Castle. Princess Monoke was Alright but the others creeped me the fuck out.

If you're going to watch Ghost in the Shell, I wouldn't bother with the series. The movie was cool, but I didn't care for the tv show.

GTO - Great Teacher Onizuka - It was a pretty funny show, from what I remember. I haven't watched anime in a few years, but this was a cool show.
