Weird as hell, but it's a pretty interesting read.

    lol. Nice.

I was skimming through the book the other day, so I figured it out after the first paragraph. Though I'd say it's at least temporarily turned into a MarySue.

    Meh.
Arthur Weasley's enchanted car is the Stephen King killer Christine. Fangirl twats drip for Snape. The end.
Look at that. I managed to write something just as interesting and compelling as that dark fluff fic. As ideas go, this is the kind that you think about for two seconds and then throw back.

And now I feel like I've already spent too much time thinking about this one.

    Title: Squib
    Author: dhulli
    Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3927812/1/Squib

This story is about Harry's brother being believed to be The Boy Who Lived, parent's that ignore him, yadda yadda yadda, but it has a twist in that they have to transfer Harry's magic to his brother because of an accident. It features a crafty Harry, and I believe that he will also be dark. It has original ideas in how he uses magic.

However, the reason I had to stop reading it at only chapter 9 was because I was hating how it was working. Besides the terrible grammar and spelling, Harry had a very cliche personality and I was just forcing myself to read the chapters. It's alright if you can get past the grammar and cliche'dness, but I don't particularly like it myself.

That story was a bit of a guilty pleasure for me in its early stages, and it has some good ideas. The problem mostly is that Harry is in no way a squib. I'd like to see a fic in which he plotted to conquer the world like he does in this, maybe like Lelouch in Code Geass, but kept him as a squib. No autofail elements or kung fu.

One that I read recently and haven't seen posted (and which could never make it into the Library) is The Best Seven Years by Blu Taiger, a Calvin and Hobbes/Harry Potter crossover. The premise is that Calvin's family move the England when he's 10 and he discovers that he's a wizard. He starts Hogwarts with Hobbes in Luna's year and the story follows their progress through seven years of Hogwarts. Three guesses what Calvin's animagus form is...
Ah, but what kind of dinosaur?

The story is told from Calvin's POV and has essentially no Harry in it. The worlds do work together surprisingly well, the story is interesting, and the tone is kept similar to that of the comics.

The bad: A few episodes of songfic, which I find boring; fortunately, they are easy to skim over. And the writer is in need of a good beta--the errors are just frequent enough to be distracting. But this is far outweighed by the good.

    It's a completed one-shot, not a chapter.

Clell's writing is really a crapshoot: generally he has either a good idea or good characterization, or one or two nice things per story - and something that's enough to completely ruin it for me. This one is weird but it's got awesome characterization and good imagery.

Couldn't find in DLP library or this thread so...
Posting because it was my favourite HP fic, still is in many ways (since it is soley responsible for getting me hooked on HP fics in the first place), despite the greatness of most of the fics on this site; and It does have DLP undercurrents in there. It may be H/Hr but don't let that turn you off - it's a twisted fic, that is not only well written, but has a plot...
    an actual plot!!!!
Pidgewidgeon gets owed. super/independant!harry, dark/powerful!hermione, adopted demon child...Read for the rest - I promise it's entertaining, even if a little drawn out, and redundant in places.

I've not read the one Admonkeystrator recced (though I've always found portkey.org even more disturbing than SIYE or GinnyPotter.com among the pairing-nazi web sites), but I did enjoy that same author's short humor fic Harry's Bad Hair Day. Some might think it's even library material in spite of a JKR-like wretched epilogue bit. Good for a few laughs, but this kind of innuendo has been done many times before and without such cringe-inducing moments of romance. 3/5

Harry gets some advice on how to tame his hair. Entertaining ThreeShot, full of innuendo, thus the rating is just to be safe. Complete! Please R&R!

Hah. Yeah. Only someone like me would find those stories to be 5/5s.

Read "Almost a Squib" by BajaB, currently up for review in the library. It's everything you're looking for.

The first chapter of a HP/ST:SG1 crossover - I liked the characterization, the collected way Harry reacted to each development, and (frankly) the lack of over-the-top emo/angst. I'm also a Stargate fan, but few HP/SG1 crossovers work. This looks very good. There's a lot of ways the story can go, and many possible developments.

    The problems are:
    1) the author has a really bad habit of not finishing his stories.
    2) Lots of exposition: that usually doesn't bother me, but DLP tends to regard more than a para of exposition as boring filler.

I'd wait for a few more updates, but if the author maintains that quality of writing I would recommend it for the Library.

It's certainly better than over half of the stuff that's been recc'd the past week.

This is rather "barely readable" than "almost good", but it deals with one of our favorite characters.

    A Woman Scorned by annie
The final battle ends differently that Harry expected. The worst part or maybe the best part is that he feels no guilt.
Chapters: 1 Completed: Yes Word count: 1377 Read: 211 Published: 09/17/2005 Updated: 09/17/2005

It's hosted at the Quidditch Pitch, and labelled as Darkfic with severe warnings. Compared with stuff I read on DLP this is a harmless silly oneshot, definitely not worth the library. The last two paragraphs made it worth to be mentioned in this thread.
